POSTED FOR REFERENCE:

Once there was a world no different than yours or mine. You could say it was exactly the same, except for leaders. Until the year 2012 rolled around. The government of the USA said that aliens had arrived and launched an all-out nuclear war. Most countries that could joined in to fight these "aliens". The result was devastating. Practicably all of humanity was wiped out, and all from a hoax. Of course they missed the real aliens, who decided to fix this world.

Not that you remember any of that.

No, all that you remember is waking up on an island with 10 other survivors. In places there are spots that seem like holes into space. There are others where they show the Earth may years into the future or many years into the past. They are shrinking day by day. But you are finding strange creatures. Creatures that can shoot water out of their mouths or shoot fire. Ones that look like normal grasses, but can absorb your health.

You have a few fruits that aren't destroyed by pollution and are safe to eat. These creatures, if you can beat them, are safe to eat as well. Well... Except for the ones that shoot that sludge at you.

You want to know what they are. You want to know what caused the ruins around you. You want to know why you think you know these people. You want to know why you feel less able to fight but more of a will to live. And most of all, you want to know why you can't remember a thing. Choose what you do wisely, for you are shaping history as we know it.

"You should wake up now," a high-pitched voice said? Thought perhaps? "Your people need you."

Wake... Up... What's "wake up"? Maybe... Maybe I need to see? But how do I see? See... I see... With eyes... Why do I feel like I have to open something up? Should I submit?

Well... Here goes.

Slowly a red haired girl's eyes opened. She slowly sat up. She had been laying on a gray rock... Road was it? Although it seemed to have red on it now as well. Words came to her rapid-fire.

"Ruins. Destruction. Water. Grass. Sand. Beach. Talk. Jessica. Jess," she muttered to herself.

Jessica? Jess? Those are... Names. Are they... My name? Yes... I vaguely remember it... But who am I? Why am I here? Where is this?

She looked around her.

Pe... Ople...

Who are these people?

The sound of waves. A strange sound, repeated again and again. A... voice, was it? It interrupted the peaceful scene: running in a forest, not feeling any tiredness as she raced around trees and over rocks, feeling the ground beneath her. More of the same odd sounds, a bit louder now. She needed to get up - get up? With what? Onto what? Something danced in the back of her mind. Yes, she remembered it now...

Not too far away, another girl struggled to sit up, feeling her limbs ache at the sudden movement. "Eh..." It wasn't a word - what wasa word anyways? - but it was a sound, caused by her tongue... She tried again. "Ehhh?" Her mouth was dry. Instinctively, she swallowed. "Laaa. Ala..." There was something more, beyond that. A hard sound... "T - Tala." Something clicked in the back of her head. Tala. Her name. She was lying down on something hard and uncomfortable, and as she looked down in surprise, she saw that she wore tattered clothing. Tugging at her sleeves, brows furrowing at how thin and torn the material felt, she then poked at the surface beneath her. At least it was solid...

Another look around showed other - humans, was that the word? - lying down. And one, one with red hair. She was sitting up too. For some reason, she didn't feel the need to go and talk, say anything. No, better to stay quiet, keep looking around. Maybe something important would happen. Though why she felt that way, she didn't know...

Jessica saw a brown haired-Girl was it?-wake. Jessica rolled onto her knees and crawled over the girl. "Hey," she said poking the girl. "Hey. Hey. HeyheyheyheyheyheyHEY!"

She sat up. The girl was breathing hard, her chest heaving.
"Aaack, fire heights underneath yellow plaid worn opal diamond," She yelled. Then more quietly, "Vai." A name? She looked around. The round- no, ground seemed to be sandy? No.. hard. Yes. A rock material of some sort. The girl.. she decided to call herself Vai, whether it was her name or not.
"PPPFFFF-" Better not try talking. Over to her.. side, there were some people, she thought the word was. Two were sitting up, or something. Vai looked up, at the white puffs above her.
What is this?

Another brunette's eyes stayed shut, but she was indeed awake.

The first sign of this was that her hand rose up to wipe some snot that had been very slowly leaking out of her nose. She didn't exactly know why, but she didn't like the feeling, and her hand rose on instinct.

She moaned. Her brain was still asleep.

She inhaled deeply. Again, she didn't know why, but the part of her brain that could function whether asleep or not told her to, so she did. To her surprise, this seemed to make her a bit better, and she forced the air out, again on instinct.

She sluggishly tried to think of something beyond all these involuntary actions. There wasn't much, just some word that she didn't really get the meaning of. Megan? she thought. Had she been able to remember what a flower was, she may have thought it was that. But again her subconcious mind told her it sounded a bit like an adjective (although it didn't use the specific word), being 'of Meg.'

Meg. That had a nice ring to it, she thought. Something I would like to be known as. And who's stopping me from being called that? she added.

Something was tickling her nose. She opened her eyes. A flood of information came to her mind; she could remember a few more words. She could remember the colors, and that the seemingly endless blue above her was the sky, and the fluffy white objects were clouds. There was a bright thing in the sky; she tried to look at it, but it hurt her eyes, and she quickly turned away to see little purple-ish spots all over the place. When she closed her eyes, however, they appeared to be green.

She opened them again and looked down to find a funny gray wisp on her pants. It was so light that she hadn't noticed it was there. Feather, she remembered with a wide grin.

She turned around and saw several objects. She looked down at herself again, and took in what she could see of herself. Common sense told her she couldn't see her face or neck.

They look like me, she realized. The same, except for the colors on them. They're all different hair, and different clothes, but they have the same shape.

She crawled over to them. There were a couple that were sitting up; one was frantically making noise to one who was just barely waking up. When she pushed the air out in a different way, she realized she could make noise too, and if she moved her tongue into different positions different noises came out. There were a few more memories with this noise; a bit of grammar and some sounds that she could make, which had a few meanings to her, although some just seemed odd, like tree, rock, and water. She guessed that when she saw more the meanings would become clear. The rest were all lying down, still asleep, apparantly.

"Hhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaiiiii," she said very slowly and extendedly. She mentally told herself that this was the usual greeting when seeing someone like yourself, and that it was usually not so long, but she wanted to make sure she got it right.

((...Oh my God, did I write all that? o.o))

The girl's eyes opened slowly. Darkness..? Her face hurt... she was lying flat on her face..?
She pushed herself up to a sitting position, coughing. Where was she? Who were those other people?
"Ke.. what.. is.. Who..?", she tried to ask, still coughing. Apparently, she'd breathed in some of that tan powdery stuff that stuck to her skin. She struggled to remember something important, but as she kept getting close, it disappeared like trying to recall a.. well, something you couldn't remember. Ke? It sounded a little familiar. But, more related, she wondered sleepily who those other people were. As far as she knew, she'd always been lying here. Maybe they were too..

Tala found herself being prodded. Rudely too, by someone just repeating a word, as if to catch her attention. This was quite annoying, so she, after rummaging in her mind for the proper word, suddenly turned her head and glowered. "What?" And she had only stammered a bit! Feeling a surge of pride for being able to talk with only a bit of trouble, she didn't even find herself minding that she was being pestered. Though, her gaze slipped past the other girl to focus on the sky. It was so beautiful... The clouds slowly drifting by, sculpted by the wind.

The girl sat up. She saw a gentle mist over the ocean. "Misty... that rings a bell... I'm going to go by Mysti." she mumbled to herself. She looked around and saw others.

((SHORT IS SHORT but I need to get in the shower naow.))

Jennifer was very confused. She could hardly remember your first. The darkness was slowly being penetrated by light, but she still couldn't make much sense of things. When was her birthday again...? Even that she couldn't remember. One, how was her memory wiped like this, and two, how did she end up here?

The black-haired girl yawned as she looked around at her surroundings. Where am I? she wondered. Was I here before? Oh, why can't I remember?
