• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Editing thread titles.

Equinoxe

has a BONE to pick with you
So, I noticed this some time ago: if I edit the title of the first post, the new title appears on it but not on the thread itself. Has something changed forum-wise or am I magically cursed for changing the title of my art thread whenever I posted something new?

(it's not super important to me, but it would be nice to know if this is supposed to happen or not)

EDIT: okay I tried it on this thread and it worked :U
Does it have something to do with how many posts there are in the thread (I only tried this with my art and pixel art threads before, and they're both pretty long)?

Hey look at me I'm a ~post title!~

Posts have their own titles, too; they're a very commonly ignored 'feature'. Are you sure you're not mixing the two?

Re: yep this is a post title

Nah, I do know of that.
Since I was able to edit the title of this thread after posting it, I guess it really is an issue with thread length or some other factor.

Re: Editing thread titles

If you edit the title of the first post, it's not going to change the thread title because the title of the post and the title of the thread are two different things. But you can change the thread title; it should be "Edit Thread" under "Thread Tools" on the menu in the upper right corner of the thread, and (though I guess maybe this only works for mods?) you should be able to double-click next to the title of a thread you can edit, which changes the title into a text box which you can change and will save when you click away.

IIRC I'm pretty sure the double-click feature works for everyone. It's rather grand.

The double-clicking doesn't work for me :U
And the only option in the 'thread tools' menu besides the subscription thing and other stuff is 'delete thread'.

So, let me rephrase: I have been able to change the title of my threads before by editing the title of the first post. I was able to change the title of this thread, just now, by changing the title of the first post (I added a '.' at the end there, see?).

The problem is that I can't change the title of my art/pixel art threads anymore; I have been able to do this before. It has nothing to do with me confusing post and thread titles or something like that.

I'm just wondering why it doesn't work anymore; is it because the threads are too long/old or something? Or is it just a mystery?

On inspection, there is a vague setting in vBulletin that's set the "time limit on editing thread title" to a million minutes. If your threads are a few years old, that limit would presumably have expired. I can bump it up to five million or something. (For some reason you can't set it to be unlimited.)

...I could have sworn that I edited the title of my first post and the thread title was changed.

@ Butterfree: Ah, thank you, it works now!
I guess the five million minutes'll be enough for now :D
