Arena: Sunny Meadow

Sunny Meadow is a small meadow that is usually sunny, and the weather will start sunny. It has a few trees scattered across the area and is mostly high grass that hides the movements of enemy pokemon but it causes pokemon attacking through them to use 1% more energy. There is a circular path of mowed down grass that pokemon can attack through unhindered, though they sacrifice their stealth. Unevolved pokemon only.

Round Five: Begin!

Kine's long, thin fingers weave through the air, sinister black wisps slowly beginning to circle around them. Kine mutters a string of very nasty things as the little wisps do their dance around his hands, imbuing them with as much horrifying hatred as his devilish little mind can come up with; with a hiss he sends them on their way, darting and weaving through the tall grass, across the clearing and straight into the sleeping Aden's head. The Torkoal shudders violently as the little nightmares work their way into his dreams... and jerks into wakefulness almost immediately, blinking in the bright sunlight and panting slightly, unsure of whatever it was that was about to happen to him and rather glad that it didn't get a proper chance. Still a little rattled by his mysterious close shave, Aden finds it a little difficult to relax properly; still, whatever Kine was about to do to him seems to have gone away for now.

An irritated and tiring Kine is forced to admit that his brilliant evil plan has been foiled, and he won't be getting that free boost he had been counting on. Pouting, he simply crosses his arms, sits back and fumes. Aden, having rested properly and collected himself, is currently in a much better mood. Granted, his next attack would probably have more oomph behind it if he were still feeling icky, but he's plenty mad enough with the Abra and clomps ahead anyway. Building up a full head of steam in tall grass while running on short legs and carrying a heavy shell is not easy, and the Torkoal takes his time crossing the field, but he reaches his opponent at last and slams his ponderous body into the Abra's thin frame. Under normal circumstances, the little Psychic-type should have crumpled under the blow; Kine provides a lot more resistance that Aden was expecting, however. The fire tortoise realizes far too late that he has made an awful mistake as a bronze-colored light flashes around Kine's entire body. The Abra rises suddenly and slams a fist right into Aden's face with terrible force, much more than a such a fragile creature should be able to muster, pushing the Torkoal's head down into his shell. The glow wears off and Kine slumps back down into the grass, tired, leaving a dazed and achy Aden staring out of his shell.

Aden absolutely does not want to so much as touch Kine after a blow like that, and he takes a few timid steps backward as he watches his unpredictable opponent; sure enough, the bronze glow encircles the Abra's body again. Kine is waiting for him. The Torkoal would much rather just let him wait, but, unfortunately, orders are orders--with a gulp and a whimper he charges forward again. Kine's entire body aches as the heavy Fire-type slams into him, and he is growing very achy and tired, but he does not let it show. His fist crashes into Aden's head again, just as powerfully as before. This time the pain is too great for Aden to register much of it--the tortoise's head and neck simply go numb as Kine's fist hits him.

Ref's Notes
-Rest cures poison and I'm not quite sure why MurrMurr didn't get rid of it, especially when he seems to have removed Kine's burn immediately after he used Rest, but it's been fixed now.
-Aden woke up on the first action; therefore, Nightmare had no time to take effect.
-Aden's nerves prevented him from recovering full energy from his chill.
-Prettzel attacks first next round.

Well, blah. That didn't go so well.
Um. Use Psychic on him, but if he uses a physical attack, Counter it. If he uses a damaging attack after you've already used Counter or he's going to use a special attack after already doing one first, use Teleport out of the way (preferably into the tall grass) as soon as you can. (Abra are good at that, right?) If he uses three damaging attacks in a row, just Teleport away into a (different) area of the tall grass.
Oh, and for the first Psychic you can pull off, try to make the coal inside Aden's shell explode. If you can't do that, just use a normal Psychic.

Psychic/Counter ~ Psychic/Counter/Teleport ~ Psychic/Teleport/Counter

Let's start of by blocking that Psychic with a Protect. Then try to get a bit closer to Abra and use a Fire Spin. If he uses Psychic after he teleports away, use another Protect. Otherwise, Chill.

Protect ~ Fire Spin ~ Protect/Chill

Round Six: Begin!

Punching the crap out of Aden's head was certainly entertaining and a little invigorating, but it made Kine's fist hurt and he really doesn't have a problem with sitting back and returning to the mental assaults. The air between the two battlers ripples slightly as it is disturbed by passing psychic energy, on its way to cause a little chaos underneath Aden's thick shell; the rippling becomes much more sudden and violent when it collides with the faint, greenish shield that Aden set up just in time. Kine scowls and stops, glaring nastily at the barrier that stands between him and the fireworks he had been hoping to set off; Aden glares right back at him, a defiant sneer on his face.

As the two continue to stare at one another, a strange feeling comes over them that they cannot quite explain. A few puffs of lighter, almost whitish smoke begin to issue from the Torkoal's back, however, and Kine notices that he seems to be aware of a shared wavelength between him and his opponent--an exploitable one, perhaps.

Kine is not deterred so easily, however. Instead of worrying about any fancy, time-wasting tricks, he simply launches another attack as soon as he sees that his foe's barrier is gone. This time the Torkoal has to grit his teeth and bear the pain as the Abra mercilessly jabs away at every nerve and pressure point he can get his little mind around. Aden sighs audibly when the attack finally stops--he never would've thought, before today, that such a small, fragile Pokémon could put so much hurt on him--but wastes no time in making his own move. Thick black smoke billows out of the openings in his shell as he burns coal as fast as he can, and intense flames build up in the Torkoal's mouth. When Aden exhales at last, a stream of fire erupts from his jaws and begins to swirl around in a circle, reaching upward and twisting and churning itself into the rough shape of a funnel. The fire spin dances and swerves forward, completely engulfing Kine before he has a chance to move out of the way. The Abra yelps and hisses; the flames are definitely not the hottest he's felt so far, but they have him completely surrounded and are licking away at his body constantly, causing a great deal of discomfort. The fire spin stops and stays in place around Kine, not quite reaching the tall grass, but several stray tongues of flame do leap out dangerously close before winking out.

Furious about the hot, painful conditions he must now work under, Kine goes after Aden with his mind yet again, pouring all the vindictive energy into his psychic attack that he can muster. With the towering twister of flames blocking his vision he cannot see Aden's reaction. He can, however, feel it when his progress is halted yet again by a second protective forcefield. The Abra screams with frustration and swipes at the air in front of him; he realizes too late that this was not a good idea, as all he managed was a good fistful of very hot, angry red flames.

Sure enough.

Torkoal, start off with a Flail, then chill. Unless Abra attacks either time - if he does use a Protect. For the third turn, I want you to use a Solarbeam.

Flail / Protect ~ Chill / Protect ~ Solarbeam

Blah.

Counter his Flail-if he Protects, chill. Rain Dance on the second action-if you can, try to get close to him while doing this, to force him to Protect. Last, get up close (if you haven't already) and fire a point-blank Zap Cannon.

Round Seven: Begin!

Aden stares cautiously at the sputtering tower of fire still surrounding his foe, waiting to see if an attack appears to be forthcoming. There are no apparent signs of movement, however, and so, reluctantly--he still remembers those nasty whacks to the head--he marches forward, straight into the tornado of flames and barrels into Kine again. This time his attack is less about brute force and more about desperation: he flails his limbs and butts his head wildly, not especially concerned about what he hits. Admittedly, the Torkoal probably isn't feeling as desperate as he could be, but he swings away all the same. Kine simply sits back and bears the blows and the touch of the flames as best he can; this is becoming very difficult to do, even faced with such a paltry attack, in Kine's weakened state, but he takes it all the same. Aden notices too late that the bronze glow is surrounding his beleagured opponent once again, and so is completely unprepared when Kine's fist smashes into his face again with double the force of his random flailings.

Amidst all of the commotion, the tower of whirling flames finally peters out into nothing, dying down into nothing but a large ring of scorched grass and earth around Kine and Aden.

Whimpering slightly, Aden backs away from Kine and the circle of burned grass. Luckily for him, the most recent countered blow was not as powerful as the first two had been; he is still feeling exhausted and terribly achy, however, and so he flops down on the ground and tries to relax. The Abra, for his part, would also appreciate a little time to relax; at the moment, however, he is too busy focusing all of his energy and attention on a prayer to the heavens. Kine gets up and moves toward his foe, attempting to appear menacing; Aden either doesn't buy it or is too tired to care, however, and so continues to relax for the time being. Shaking his head, Kine stops only a short distance away from the Torkoal and then reaches up and out to the gods of the sky and storms, begging them to stop the intense heat and sunlight and send thick, black rainclouds out over Sunny Meadow. It takes a few moments, but the Abra's prayers are eventually answered. The intense sunlight fades away quite quickly as dark, heavy clouds drift across the sky, casting a shadow over the tall grass of the meadow. A few fat raindrops fall from them, splattering over the burned grass and the backs of the two battlers; these few drops are immediately followed by hundreds, thousands, millions more. Kine sighs, enjoying the cool rain against his hot, bruised body. Aden, understandably, is a lot less enthused. He is finding it very difficult to relax with all of this uncomfortably cold water dripping off of his and the thick, billowing steam issuing from his coal ports instead of smoke.

He might not have been able to bluff Aden into protecting himself for no reason, but in the end Kine pretty much has what he wants. A bright light flashes across the darkened field as a large ball of electricity begins to form between the Abra's hands. Kine's arms jerk up and down erratically as the ball grows in size; it seems as though he is having a hard time controlling this much energy and containing it in one small area. Without warning the ball, now larger than Kine's head, breaks free from his grip and zig-zags straight into the Torkoal's wet, unprotected body. Aden screams and jerks around, thrashing on the ground and flailing a lot more wildly than his half-hearted attack earlier. The massive blast of electricity surges through him, scrambling his muscles and severely compromising his locomotive ability. Aden is so stiff and jerky, in fact, that he cannot move under his own power at all for the time being; he simply remains on the ground, cursing the numbness creeping over his body and waiting for the violent spasms to stop.

The energy required to summon and attempt to control a sphere of electricity that size, however, put more strain on Kine than his exhausted body can handle. The Abra staggers backward a few steps, slipping on the now muddy grass and falling onto his back. He groans once or tries and tries to push himself up with one arm, but he is too weak to manage even that; Kine sinks back down to the ground anddoes not get up again, too exhausted to go on any longer.

Sunny Day: ended
Rain Dance: 4 rounds, 1 action remaining

Ref's Notes
-Aden did not recover full energy from his chill due to the rain.
-Zap Cannon paralyzed Aden, who was then fully paralyzed on the third action (not that it ended up mattering).
-Kine fainted on the third action due to energy loss.
-Prettzel sends out and then attacks first next round.

Thank you, Kine. You've done a great job. Phazon, you're up.

All right. First, use Fake Out to soften him up a bit. If he protects, just relax and use Calm Mind. Now, that impudent torkoal has some stat boosts. Show him a Punishment, would you? If he uses a powerful physical attack (Flail, Double-Edge, the like), then run around and dodge; he's far too slow to catch you. If he uses Protect, Curse. Finally, use Faint Attack. If he protects or is fainted, Chill. Again, run away and dodge if he uses a powerful physical attack.

Empoleon is disqualified and the match goes to Prettzel. Prettzel gets $8 for winning and Kine gets 1 exp (Phazon gets no exp because he never actually got a chance to battle). Empoleon gets no money and cannot make or accept new challenges until March 7th, 2009, but Aden gets 2 exp. I get $5 for reffing.

Oh, wait, crap. You're right; I apologize. I think I got this confused a different battle. You can go ahead and attack, then, but please do try and be more punctual from now on if you can. Please post your commands within the next five days.

I gave you five extra days, Empoleon, and you haven't taken advantage of it yet. If you don't post attacks in the next 30 or so hours you will be disqualified.

Okay, this time I know I counted the days right. Since Empoleon still hasn't posted attacks after his five-day extension, he is officially disqualified. The prizes originally awarded in the mistaken DQ post still stand.
