Onikami's Commands:

Kahen's Commands:
Safeguard ~ Swords Dance ~ Fury Cutter/Flash
Arena: Black Cave
This cave has very minimal lighting, and proves to be difficult to see, except for nocturnal/dark/feline/fire pokemon. Despite this, there are no natural obstacles, and ranged attacks have no obstructions. The cave also has a couple small pools of water, and is quite damp.
Other:
Darkness: 50% chance of ranged attack missing unless attacker is above mentioned exception. 10% chance of melee attack missing.
Damp atmosphere: All combatants have dampened skin/fur/whatever and take 2% less fire damage, and 2% more electric.
Water Pools: Weaker water attacks can be used. Stronger attacks requiring more water cannot be used.
Round One: Begin
Eerie drips and plops echo around the cave as water droplets fall from stalactites and into pools hidden by the darkness and low visibility. Kahen shudders with nervousness and cold. This place is creepy, very creepy, and it makes her feel uncomfortable. Hoping that it will go some way toward making her feel a bit more at ease, the Chikorita summons a thin barrier of pale, golden energy, wrapping the gossamer barrier around her. It does precious little to cast more light in the cave and does not stave off the cold, but its presence does soothe her nerves just a little bit.
Onikami's red eyes, more accustomed to the dark than Kahen's, settle on the golden, glowing Chikorita after taking a quick look around the open, empty cavern. His opponent looks nervous--good. The Poochyena throws his head back and gives voice to a long, loud howl that echoes around the cave. Kahen shrieks when she hears the noise and tries to cower behind her gauzy shield, covering her ears with her hooves. Onikami sneers, enjoying his foe's fear.
It's only going downhill from here, toots.
Kahen and her safeguard back away a few paces from where she hopes the sound was coming from--the reverberations make it very difficult to tell, and a dark gray Poochyena is so hard to see in this light--and takes a deep breath to calm herself down. Deep breathing on its own isn't enough to help her relax, however. The Chikorita shuffles her feet in a tentative little dance, trying to distract herself and push the frightening howling out of her mind. After a few seconds she starts to feel better and picks up the pace, dancing more frenetically and erratically as her confidence grows. Her leaf cuts wild arcs through the air, her hooves clatter loudly each time she lands, the nervous look on her face gives way to one of energy and confidence. Kahen comes to a rest at last, panting slightly and glaring a challenge in Onikami's general direction.
Onikami snorts. Well. So much for intimidation. But it doesn't bother him too much--all the confidence in the world won't save her if she's sleeping like an overfed Snorlax. He stretches luxuriously on the cold floor, exposing his tongue and all of his teeth in an exaggerated yawn. He blinks sleepily for effect and then turns to Kahen, expecting to see her yawning as well. But she isn't. She's giving a derisive snort of her own. Tired? Her? With all this adrenaline rushing through her? As if, man, as if.
Before Onikami has a chance to rethink his strategy the cave is suddenly flooded with retina-searing white light. The Poochyena's eyes, so accustomed to the dim lighting, sting horribly as the overpowering light flashes repeatedly on and off. The flashing stops and the temporarily illuminated cave is dark once again, but the damage is done: Onikami can hardly see. His narrowed, watering eyes can barely make out a fuzzy, light greenish shape where Kahen should probably be, but that's it; he can't see the look of smug satisfaction on her face, can't see her mouthing
Did you enjoy the light show? All he knows is that that bloody light is all his opponent's fault, regardless of whatever her reaction might be. Furious, he staggers forward, snarling and baring his fangs. Kahen is so busy congratulating herself on her clever trick that she doesn't pay much attention to the dark-type steadily advancing on her and fails to notice the details that come into sharper focus as he draws nearer--the glinting of sharp, white teeth, the faint, icy blue mist he exhales with every breath. By the time she does notice it's too late--Onikami's fangs, chilled to painfully cold sub-zero temperatures, are already sinking into the side of her face before she can move out of the way. The Chikorita struggles for a few seconds but then stops, thinking better of it; pulling back might just cause the flesh to tear even more, making any injuries worse. All Kahen can do is sit there and take it as her foe gnaws away at the skin under her eye and wait for him to let go.
Onikami releases her and backs off at last, still growling vehemently. Kahen winces and paws at her face; a little bit of blood comes away on her hoof. That really hurt...
