So it
was worse. Much,
much worse than any draft of horrifying scenarios that had briefly crossed her mind, and those were very far from pretty. But even while lost in her stupor, Kotone managed to latch onto a few relevant key points of Nova’s answer.
“Arceus…” she parroted, her voice laced with a mix of sadness and recognition. “
The Alpha?
That Arceus??”
Of course, if she were currently of calm mind, Kotone would have said to herself, ‘duh, of course it’s
that Arceus, what other Arceus could they be?’ and giggle it off, and she would have rattled off about how Nova changing types made so much sense now and perhaps started some passionate rambling about the various legends of Arceus in her own world.
But there were those other points that were far more relevant: time-space breaking
isn’t that what happened on the ship, too…?; Nova made out of a plate; Self-Destruct. And by the way Nova looked at the sky, seemingly lost in thought, it wasn’t the kind of Voltorb-like explosion that was extremely painful, but not lethal. No. What awaited Nova sounded far more… permanent.
Whatever soul had been born from that plate, was it going to… vanish to nothingness? Just like that, as if it had never existed? How was that going to be like? Death but worse, without recycling of souls? How could something be worse than
death? What was it like to be
deader than dead?
Would he even know or feel anything in the first place without a body, a heart or a soul?
‘This means… that Forlas will be his last and only chance to have some form of existence.‘ Kotone rubbed her eyes with her paws. Her fingers were now wet. ‘
His last shot at life…’
Kotone wished to say something so badly.
Anything at all. But what words of comfort could she offer about
this? They would feel nice and sweet but still be empty and useless.
Since her mind was done doing the talking, Kotone let her heart do the acting. She steadied herself, letting the book slip off of her back, and leapt to hug Nova around his neck, holding the massive neck tight with her tiny arms.
“…I’m sorry…” she muttered. Sparks of something rose from her pink pelt, making it glow with a faint rosy green tint.
“I’m so sorry…” she continued, armed with the intense desire to help in some way, no matter how senseless her efforts could have sounded.
And her soul shone brightly, seeping its aura into Nova. A sensation akin to a walk in a lush forest, fresh and energizing, grounding someone back to Mother Nature. A gentle guardian watching over them, tiny but powerful, bringing back joyful memories, even forgotten ones. The warm smiles of friends, the challenges faced together as a team, the successes and shared bonds between ‘mons and humans alike.
No matter how different they were, they were still breathing the same air and living the same space. Even if their souls would have been separated someday and even ceased to exist, those moments were written in the fabric of the multiverse. And those memories were there to stay.
Kotone used Soulful Embrace!
