That's fine, as long as the storyline is ever actually dealt with. HL2 didn't really resolve the actual story in the end, and the episodes feel more tacked on than anything, so it's like I'm stuck with the cast bumbling around cluelessly in the dark and it has gotten kinda old.

And you gotta admit, it would be freakin' weird if Gordon started talking. After he's allready been established as a silent protagonist.

And a ton of awesome games have a silent protagonist. xD

Those games generally tend to not have voice acting for every other character in the game, though.

I don't think it'll be the portal gun. There would have to be massive amounts of coding involved.

What? No there wouldn't. The portal effect is part of the engine. You can already play through HL2 with the portal gun by loading the game into Portal.

Also, they'd have to make something happen if you shoot an enemy with the portal gun, which would be boring if it was just the same affect as the AR3 AR2's alt fire.

Presumably the same would happen as if you shot a turret, a rocket turret, or GLaDOS with the portal gun?

Really? I'm pretty sure I've seen a few people who have tried to make mods but gave up on trying to add the portal device because removing all of the bugs were too hard. :/

There has to be a reason why GLaDOS says something like 'Don't stand at the operational end of the device'.
And maybe its affect on actual living things would be different, I mean turrets can't exactly get hurt or killed.

I'm almost certain GLaDOS says not to look into the operational end of the device and in the levels with the mounted portal gun, nothing at all happens to you when you stand in the way of a shot--why would it be different for non-Chell organisms?

(also adding the portal gun to GMod is a whole different story)

Yeah, I just looked it up and that's what she/it says. Maybe they didn't make it kill you because it would be annoying if you almost got the the gun but then it shot you and you had to start form the beginning of the test chamber. (or maybe Aperture Science clothing is portal-proof xD)

I was referring to a few other mods as well as Gmod btw. Also, I've been curious about that, can you PM me about the whole different story or something?

Right. The projectile could just go through living things or fizzle like it does when shot at a metal wall.

Got eight more achievements for The Orange Box until I've got 100%.

I need:
- the three science achievements (don't know if I'll ever get these tbh, playing the 360 version here)
- With Friends Like These (will have to friendspam, but should be doable)
- Grey Matter (I'm shit at Sniper so we'll see how this goes)
- Hardcore (at 200 currently, will just have to play TF2 more if I want this)
- Little Rocket Man (planning to do this soon, won't be too hard)
- Neighborhood Watch (going to attempt this after Little Rocket Man)

If anyone needs advice on any of the other achievements, I'm here... :P

(The overwatch announcer is the voice that goes like "Cauterize. Remove. Sterilize. Biotics confermed. Continue Surface Sector Sweep." That kind of thing.)

But it could be, and probably is, just wild speculation. But she really needs to be in another game, she was just too awesome. "Don't believe me? Here, i'll put you on... 'Hello!' That's you! That's how DUMB you sound!"

But I won't complain, the maps weren't exactly designed for portals.

I sooo need a new computer. Every single time I run a source engine game it ends up as hl2.exe isn't responding. I need a new graphics card and get rid of Vista.

It's still fun to shoot a rocket through a portal that leads to itself.

I don't think it's GLaDOS, I think valve were too lazy/cheap to hire more voice actors so they just reuse them for all of their games.

It is the same voice actor. I just meant she sounded different in episode 2. It could be because of the citadel being destroyed or something though.

Yep. GT is GreyGuitar07. You can do most of the TF2 ones by just setting up a system link so you're the only person playing. :P

idk I could never hardcore get into HL2

the storytelling is a gigantic cocktease that only satisfies in the form of wild fan speculation, most of the weapons feel kinda crappy, I got tired of the gravity gun after about the third physics puzzle, and a silent protagonist in a game where everyone else talks has just gotten kinda sad and awkward now no matter how much they mock themselves for it.

for the record one of the ways hl1 excels over hl2 was weapon variety. Enemy variety, too. A lot more stuff to shoot with, and many things to shoot at.

also also I didn't read the thread because I'm sure someone has said something wrong by now that would make me rage for paragraphs

Of course, but then I didn't have very high expectations of HL1 and most of what I found interesting was the environment 8) Mostly it's just that I frequently see HL2 hailed as some pinnacle of FPSes when it did not click with me nearly that much.

Yeah, episode one was kind of a cop out, considering it ended the way we all thought HL2 ended in the first place. Episode Two was much better IMO.
