How do you "Clone" Pokémon?

Re: How do you "Clone" Pokémon?

Depends on the version. The ones I've tried work roughly as follows:

In Gold/Silver/Crystal, deposit them in an empty box, then switch to another one but shut off the power before the "SAVING, DON'T TURN OFF THE POWER" message finishes.

In Emerald, withdraw them in the Battle Tower and talk to the Link Battle lady, say "no" when the game asks whether to overwrite your old data, and then shut off the power.

In both cases you end up with one identical copy of each in both your party and your PC when you turn the power back on.

Re: How do you "Clone" Pokémon?

Note: It is by far the most tedious, unrewarding method of cloning. It's often easier to restart your game and re-catch Dialga than to clone it on the GTS (possibly slightly exaggerating it...). I've pulled off this trick once, just to see if it really worked. It's not worth it - trust me.

Re: How do you "Clone" Pokémon?

GTS cloning is a pain in the butt. I've done it a few times, but you're better off trading to someone who plays on roms and having them copy their save file + pokémon. Or getting the .pkm file and using a fake GTS to clone.

Re: How do you "Clone" Pokémon?

I've also heard people talk about using the GTS. How does that one work?

Here it goes.

  1. Deposit a Pokémon and request something that's impossible without hacking (e.g. level 9 or under Infernape)
  2. When the clock thing hits the top for the eigth time, turn your DS off
  3. Deposit a Pokémon in the PC if your party's full
  4. Your Pokémon should be in the GTS. Withdraw it.

I've never tried it, but people on GameFAQs say it works.

Re: How do you "Clone" Pokémon?

It works sometimes. It's not that reliable.

Re: How do you "Clone" Pokémon?

Your timing is probably off. It varies depending on your connection.
