Arena: Outside the Battle Arena
The battle takes place right outside the Battle Frontier's Battle Arena facility, out in the open air. The immediate area is covered in nicely manicured grass and a few flowers. The Arena building itself is surrounded on three sides by water and a small pond sits on the other side of the battlers, so water moves can be used and Water-types that need to swim can do so. The battlers cannot move away from the immediate area, so heading towards the plaza or another facility is forbidden. Maps of the general area can be found on this page.
Since this match is happening so close to the Arena, it seems such a shame not to follow Greta's rules... or, at least, a variation on them. As such, both battlers will send out their Pokémon and attack for three battle rounds (a total of 9 attacks per Pokémon) before the ref calls a halt. After the three rounds both Pokémon are recalled and unable to continue in the current battle, and their current health, energy and status are noted for later. Both trainers will then send out their next Pokémon and continue for the next three rounds. At the end (which should be nine total rounds), the health and energy of all Pokémon is totaled and whichever trainer has the highest score wins.
The following rules also apply:
-If a Pokémon has fainted, either due to HP loss OR energy loss, the battle stops right where it is (even if it has not yet been three rounds) and both Pokémon are recalled. Fainted Pokémon DO still count toward the final score, but as either their health or their energy is at 0% they won't add anywhere near as much.
-If, at the end of the three rounds, a battler is afflicted with a status condition, that condition detracts from their final score as follows:
Paralyzed, Burned, Confused: -10 points
Poisoned, Attracted: -15 points
Asleep, Frozen: -20 points
If the Pokémon has more than one status condition, only the first one they were afflicted with detracts full points; all others afterwards only detract five, no matter what they are.
Experience is determined like this: all Pokémon get the usual 1 experience point for being sent into battle, and if one Pokémon actually knocks another out it will get the 1 experience point as normal. If neither Pokémon faints at the end of three rounds, the one with the lower score is considered knocked out for the purposes of experience and so the one with the higher score would get the extra 1 exp.

Adonis, clearly the faster of the two, begins to retch up whatever he’d had for lunch that day. It takes a while – it appears rather big, and you can see it passing through his body – before it passes out his unhinged jaw and lands on the cracked earth below him. And, oddly enough, the thing before him seems to look like an exact copy of Adonis. Even more, it raises its purple head and licks the air before crawling to Adonis’s side; the two are indistinguishable.
Syrup roles his eyes, clearly unimpressed. He yawns widely as he moves to the side, leaving a sticky pile of sludge where he had previously been. And unsurprisingly, the sludge pops up, growing arms and a mouth and even eyes. It glances at its creator before breaking into a grin – battle! Fun!
Adonis appears equally unimpressed. He focuses, his mind losing interest in the battle; instead he stores aside some of his energy, as he’d done with his health, saving it for later use. He can still feel the energy in him, but it’s like it’s separate from him at the same time – he can’t access it in the same way. And yet, somehow, he feels stronger from it. Satisfied from this, he opens his eyes and regains interest in whatever the grimer is doing.
But he can’t see him. He can see some slime where Syrup had previously been, and… a hole. And he can feel a strong vibration in the earth, heading his way. He licks the air, tasting it; the grimer’s taste is too strong to locate…
… But he doesn’t have to. Syrup pops out of the earth, slamming into Adonis’s dummy and tossing it aside. The substitute barely manages to raise itself off the ground; it looks warily at the grimer and then at Adonis, slowly crawling towards the ekans. The grimer’s own substitute follows him, climbing out of the hole and smirking at the devastation his master had created. Adonis appears less giddy; in fact, he’s rather annoyed at the grimer for harming his substitute.
So rude. The ekans slithers forwards, raising his upper body in preparation for attack. Syrup stares up at the enormous snake, suddenly afraid – and rightfully so. Adonis slams his upper body down, expecting to hit Syrup, but the grimer’s substitute quickly jumps forwards and takes the impact. Syrup sighs with relief as his substitute is nearly destroyed; it only barely manages to recollect itself while Adonis slithers quickly away, hissing at the two grimer.
Syrup pauses before attacking. He’s a tad unsure of his command; there were two substitutes, and one of them is certainly broken. But his isn’t. Should he use Double Team or Mud Bomb? He stares blankly at Adonis for several moments before he randomly decides on an attack.
As fast as he can, the grimer begins to slide forward, leaving an oozing trail of slime behind him. He starts off slow but quickly picks up speed, circling around Adonis while his substitute followed close behind. As he reached maximum speed, he appeared to duplicate himself into several more – 2 more, or maybe 3, it was hard to tell with the substitute. Syrup quickly slowed down and glanced at his trainer; he was unsure if he’d done okay, but he tried.
