Pre-Round
Manaphy Driftrider and Ketsu sat on rocks at the ends of the battlefield, feeling quite bored. Where
is their referee? Their referee had muttered something about SATs (is that a disease?) and ran off somewhere. Now they can’t continue their battle… Just when the trainers and their Pokemon were about to give up and leave, they heard a scream.
A Linoone, running on two legs and carrying two red referee flags in under her arms, ran out of the forest, chased by… A Hoothoot? The owl Pokemon cawed loudly and pecked at the Linoone, before fluttering back into the forests. The Linoone shook herself and stood back on the referee’s stand. “Well, I will be reffing this battle now, since Keta seemed to have disappeared… Ahem. Right. Round five – I mean six – start!” The Linoone waved her referee flags.
The trainers shrugged to themselves. At least someone’s reffing their battle, even if that person (or Pokemon)
is a newbie referee.

Round 6 Start
The ground started to shift beneath the Pokemon’s feet. Bahamut groaned to himself. He really didn’t like this stupid shifting battle ground. The Larvitar preferred stable grounds; he was getting a little sea sick from all the shifting and moving. Bahamut felt the dirt beneath his feet get warmer and warmer… The surprised Larvitar leapt back onto the large boulder he was holding onto before. Arainami, too, yelped in surprise and scrambled on to a rock, cringing at the pain in her ankle. The two Pokemon watched in fear as the ground seemed to turn to liquid, glowing bright red and sizzling. Grass and the trees caught on fire, and slowly sank down into the lava. Soon, there was nothing left on the ground but roaring, red-hot molten rock.
Arainami growled, cursing her fate. It would have been better if the ground turned to a Golem or something. However, life’s life, and at least the lava would give an interesting twist to the battle. The Buizel stood up on her hind legs and started to dance. Swinging her tail around, the otter started to do crazy aerobatic tricks – flipping backwards, dancing on one foot… Just when Bahamut was starting to think the Buizel was crazy, rainclouds started to gather overhead. Thunder roared, lightning flashed, and rain started to pour from the sky. The coldness of the rain combated with the heat from the lava, and the heat won; the rain evaporated before it even hit the ground, covering the whole battlefield with a thick cloud of steam.
Bahamut, in turn, closed his eyes. He was a bit bothered by the fact that he couldn’t see the Buizel, but since that otter was doing some crazy dance anyway, he figured that he was safe. The Larvitar focused his energy, and sand and small bits rocks started to gather around him. At first, there were only a thin cloud, but the sandstorm soon got bigger and bigger. The whirling winds blew away the steam and the rain, and the rough sand battered the Buizel, almost knocking her off her rock.

Although it was bright and sunny outside, it seemed like night in the whirling sandstorm. Arainami squinted, trying to see through the thick cloud of sand. Her ankle throbbed painfully, and the heat didn’t help, either. Better be safe than sorry… Since her trainer probably knows what’s going on more than she does… The Buizel focused, and a glowing white dome of energy surrounded her. The sandstorm smashed at the dome but couldn’t get in, the wall of energy protecting Arainami from attacks. Good thing the Buizel didn’t put up her defence later, as Bahamut leapt off the boulder he was standing on and, jaws open wide, tried to bite the Buizel. However, the only thing the Larvitar got his teeth on was a mouthful of sand as he crashed into the dome of energy. Bahamut picked himself up and glared at Arainami, who was grinning evilly inside the Protect. Honestly, a
Protect? That Buizel was starting to piss him off more and more.

Now that Bahamut was standing on the same rock as she was, her next attack would be much easier. Arainami dropped her protective energy wall and extracted water from her glands in the back of her throat. Then, she shot the water backwards while leaping forward at the same time. For a split second, the Buizel seemed to disappear, as the burst of water propelled her forward like a rocket towards the Larvitar. However, much of her momentum was lost when the water blast evaporated by the heat of the lava, and Arainami crashed into the Larvitar in a feeble Aqua Jet attack.
Bahamut had thought that Arainami was going to fire a blast of water at him, he really did. However, what actually happened was something along the lines of a wet tackle; not enough to do much damage, but the water bit at his skin like acid. The Larvitar growled, annoyed, and focused again. The ground rumbled, and bits of lava levitated into the air, solidifying into sharp rocks. The rocks shot towards the Buizel, ripping her fur apart with their sharp edges. Arainami hissed in pain as she felt the rocks, still hot, dig into her skin. She leapt away from the Larvitar, trying to dodge the flying rock shards, and almost stumbled into the lava pit below. She couldn’t see the lava from where she was standing; the raging sandstorm was blocking her vision. Her ankle still throbbed, but it was, slightly, better than before.
