• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Moralities of protagonists and antagonists

Superbird

Fire emblem is great
I just noticed something: In most video games, the hero is worse than the villain. For instance: The villain may disrespect his/her minions, but what else does he do to them? The hero is instead killing every minion in his/her path. How does the villain get given a lower morality than the protagonist? It doesn't make sense to me. Thoughts?

In some video games, the minions have the intelligence of animals. But, yes, the hero usually is pretty horrible. Especially if the minions are given feelings and lives. But, most times, the minions are running and attacking you first. Self defence. Also, the villian is probably worse. Like murdering the townspeople or trying to bring about the end of the world, killing everyone in it. But, I don't know. It kind of depends.

Look at Kirby--All the waddle dees and stuff are just minding their own business when kirby eats them--And in KSSU, it's shown that Dedede actually cares about his minions, and that Metaknight's minions care about him.

The protagonist also is prone to breaking and entering into people's houses and stealing their everythings.

Not so much anymore. While Crono may be the worst offender of this, this doesn't happen as much anymore; most JRPGs tend to be incredibly linear as of late :/

Also, I must say that Yuri from Tales of Vesperia probably has some of the most drawn out morals; given his ways of vigilante justice, he's the kinda person that only kills the people that deserve it. Some other characters however, only died because of their stupidity in siding with the villain (Although one didn't really have a choice). Anyone else, he actually shows some amount of regret.

Also; inb4 Arc Rise's L'Arc is probably the single most remorseless protagonist ever.

well, morality tends to get put to the side when something valuable's on the line, such as the world. I think, at this point, "good" and "evil" don't mean anything besides "the guys who want what I want" and "the guys who want what I don't want". murder's a fickle thing - given a certain situation, it can be completely excusable. (remember kids, it's not murder if it's sanctioned by the federal government!)
