• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

My fake Pokemon.

Noctowl

Everyone call me elf monster.
Since I have no feedback at all at deviantart, I may as well post this here. This is my fakedex, which I have been working at for about a year or so, though I did take breaks in between. I think some of them need work or an entire redesigning, but other than that I am quite happy with them.

These were made on paint, hence the lack of background and ugliness of the "Pokedex" I decided to keep them in.

Any comments?

They appear to be very blocky. Try rounding them out a bit, if you can. The concepts are quite original, however. I like Lavitrops.

Thanks for the comment. Which ones are the most blocky? I want to know to fix them and see how to smoothen them.

These are great, and look like you must've spent a lot of time on them too, 100? I couldn't make one x]

but yeah, a few of them could do with a little more work, for example, Troxer, Sunmet and Swicket, nothing terribly bad about them, they just look badly posed or a bit simple (and as Flygon put it, blocky) especially Flatchling.

Still, love them and they are all better than anything I could make, my favourites are Volspar and Medbunny.

I wanted Troxer to look like he is punching the air. I need practice with posing tbh.
Swicket, at one time, was facing forwards. But, I thought it look awkward and changed it to what you see now. =/
Sunmet does need work, now that I think of it. I want it to look like it wants to kill the player, but I can't think of a way to pose him in such a way. =/

Flatchling needs new designs entriely, I think. He's supposed to be based iff a duck and fails.

Yeah, the concepts and designs are nice~

Bovutum in particular, though, looks awkwardly posed.

Really? Aw, that's my fave one. If its the wing; its supposed to have one wing.

Edit: Updated flatchling

Is this any better? ^^;

Updated Rachuck , Summet, and Gastroy. They were all bugging me.

Edit: And now Swicket

These sprites, as a whole, are very good, but some stick out like a bad thumb. I'm referring to ones such as Halutoad and Shahyra, who appear to be facing directly towards us, and ones like Flauck and Laffin, who appear to be facing directly to the left. I'm not very good at scratching so I can't go in-depth on this, but I'm saying you need to make their perspective appear to be going back and to the right. Sorry I can't elaborate. XP Still, some of them are great and you've got potential. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I'm thinking of redoing those next, and then the grass starter family. Those ones are really old.

It's much better now. Abou tthe only thing I have to say about it now is that the feathers of the wings look a little bit triangular. I understand, because I know how hard feathers can be to sprite, so it really doesn't matter. Keep up the good work.

If it's not too much trouble, I'd advise you to fix the tables to be more regular and appealing to look at (80x80 or 64x64, depending on your sprites). I also think that, while you have potential, you are very inexperienced and as a result your sprites are sloppy. I'd recommend getting solid on your basics first; pull some HGSS sprites on the canvas next to your work for style reference, and read some pixel art tutorials (Google).

I also find sketching the Pokemon on paper before spriting it-- not to scan it or anything, just to get a feel for the pose and to make sure the anatomy checks out-- helps a lot.

Keep spriting, but always try to improve! :3 If you'd like more specific crit on a particular sprite, just ask.

I use DP sprites for reference with this, as I started this project before HGSC came out. ^^; I like to still use them for consistancy. Anyway, I normally start everything out as shapes before drawing the actual Pokemon, for some reason it feels less jerky that way.

The Pokedex really was a rushed job to show them all in order. May revamp that soon if I have the time.

I did the sketching for Garagon, interestingly enough.

Anyway, thanks for the help! ^^ I really appricitate it. =]

Bumping up with the new, neater Pokedex. I am also thinking of replacing a few Pokemon with new concepts (mainly the dragons) and was wondering which ones are the least original. Just let me know and tell me why and I might change them when I get inspired.

Made replacements for the dragons.

Melaram.png

Melaram
Psychic type
Melaram always seems to be in a state of constant sleep. Despite this, it continues to function as a normal being. Further research is being conducted.

Gallious.png

Gallious (my fave)
Fire/Flying
Gallious is often seen strutting around, doing a dance known as a waltz. Its crow can wake even the most sleepy of people.

Updated Gasence and Ganger as well. Now they really do look like gargoyles. XD

Oh, very nice! You're improving a lot. :3 I think it's impressive that you finished all of these to begin with. Are the sheep and rooster legendaries? Of falling asleep and waking up? That's brilliant!

Keep spriting!

Yeah, I thought the dragons were uncreative so I decided to think a little more basicly. XD

Thank you, will do when I get another creative spurt.
