I'm trying to make them feel good. If i walk up to a pokemon, look at it, and say "nah, you're not worth it" (or worse, steal their possessions and leave), how do you think that makes them feel? Also, not everyone has an internal skeleton with flesh attached. Some people might suffer from necrosis (don't look that up, it's disgusting)

And before I forget: "Hey Shinx! Wow, you're looking full of energy today! I like your spirit!" And then I give it a thumbs up, and move on.
 
I think that would make them feel indifferent; it is very unlikely that their self-esteem hinges entirely on the opinion of random humans. And I know what necrosis is, but I stand by what I said. By the point that all the flesh has fallen off one's skeleton one really doesn't count as a person any more.

Well sure their self-esteem isn't completely reliant on random compliments; no one's self-esteem is. However, when you get a compliment, you feel good, right? That's what I'm doing to pokemon: giving them a nice compliment to show that they are great and should never stop being who they are. And I never said ALL their flesh had to fall off.

Also: "What's up Roggenrola!? Wow, you are brave to come out and face me like this. Great job!" Then I give it a high five (it high fives me with that knob on top of its head) and continue on.
