I am aware of catcalling. And yet I haven't once complimented a Pokemon I've caught, only the ones I haven't caught, because the world needs more kindness.

Slowpoke and Slowbro are consistently shown to be dopey and stupid. Beedrill in the wild almost always have a hive mentality rather than normal intelligence. Wild Pokemon are almost always shown to not be as smart as a trained one

A hive mentality doesn't necessarily equate to less intelligence, just a different set of priorities. Wild Pokémon, even Slowpoke, can demonstrably understand commands given to them immediately after capture, so if nothing else they're clearly capable of understanding English.

But the Beedrill hive are usually easily eluded by hiding around a tree or something as the hive mindlessly advances forward, completely ignorant

They may understand English, but in the wild they're shown to be sometimes unable to perform basic tasks
 
Almost everyone knows what an apple is, but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who knows what a mammee apple is or what it tastes like. They're both fruit, they both taste good, but one of them is more well known. Same principle applies here.
