• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Spriting Dicussion: Forums

I don't know if discussion on spriting in general is allowed here, but here's hoping.
So. It's come to my attention that PMF is pretty much dead. C Spriting is also going the way of the Shed-dodo. If you look up Pokemon Spriting Forum on Google, the main things that come up are crappy Proboards sites and the big Pokemon forum's spriting sections: Serebii, PC, Marilland, and possibly even TCoD (I didn't look very hard for it).
Now, there are several advantages to a forum such as PMF/CS. I will list them here:
1. More of a focus on spriting - this allows for better spriting contests, special features like the Spriter Test/CS Dex, but still lets members discuss Pokemon in offtopic forums.
2. CRITIQUE. Oh god yes. If you go to Serebii even once I'm sure you've seen the abysmal critique/lack thereof. It's sickening. I remember forums like PMF and CS having amazing critique, especially CS and the mid-days of PMF.
3. Community Togetherness. Instead of having spriters scattered around the large forums, why not one place where they could all talk and share ideas? I mean, really, why hasn't this succeded in this day and age?

So, I'm asking you, spriters - why are Pokemon spriting forums so unpopular nowadays? What can you do sprite-wise on major Pokemon forums that you couldn't do there - plus so much more? And goddamn, there's sure as hell not a shortage of spriters - look at Serebii!

tl;dr Pokemon spriting forums are dead and I can't figure out why

Because most of the Pokemon community resides in larger forums as opposed to specific ones? The "spriting community" is rather broad, and I think lots of people consider themselves Pokemon fans first and spriters second. It's just not as big of a deal as it used to be, now that every large Pokemon forum has a Pixel Art subforum. *shrug*

Critique was never all that high quality actually, but again most forums (such as this one) have a thread for posting sprites and critique in.

Basically it's like any other smaller forum, really; people are less inclined to join communities where they only know a few people, or that hold no interest to them.

Thinly veiled advertisement is thinly veiled

because most people go to sites more inclined towards spriting, see /good/ sprites that aren't slopped together from a few parts, get a little bit of critique, and run away.

of course, i used to be like this on serebii until bynineb's critique actually helped me :B
