Open We Are Legend

The Story So Far:
At first, one could read through newspapers without getting a feeling of dread. Sure, the massacres were on the first few pages, but humanity attempted to hold onto normality by reporting about sport and fashion. A couple of weeks later, newspapers only contained scenes of bloodshed and carnage. Nowadays, there are no newspapers being sold. No longer does one need to know where the latest killings have taken place and that's because humanity has been wiped out by the savage beasts responsible for the slaughters.

But what beasts were responsible for the killings? No one is really sure. A few people have claimed that the beasts were the mythical creatures known as Pokémon but the world's population decided to act normally and make the stupid decision of dismissing these claims, saying they were ludicrous. No one is sure where these beasts came from or why they have destroyed life as we know it and it's extremely likely that mankind will never know. The creatures traveled across the globe in different packs, killing whoever they could find. Guns and nuclear energy proved useless. The earth was at a loss and anyone who had an idea as to how to save the human race watched it get shot down.

Your Role:
But you are alive. What city? You aren't sure. Not that it matters, to be honest. All cities are ruins now. All towns are practically non-existent. All continents have lost their names as the world's orders have disappeared in a fit of bloodshed. Lost and alone, you have to find more humans in order to survive and save the human race. And even then, reproducing may not be enough. These creatures will hunt you down and destroy you once they know you are out there, so surely you're only chance is to fight them. But how do you fight something when you don't know what or who you're fighting? Are you going to uncover secrets guarded for centuries? Are you going to find out why these creatures are here, how these creatures are here and why they caused a huge amount of bloodshed?

Or will you follow suit with the rest of humanity and die?

Rules:

No Godmodding.
Come on, people. No one likes it when someone decides to be superior and wrecks the roleplay for everyone.
No character Control.
Everyone is entitled to having control of their own character's actions. Do us all a favour and don't try to overturn that entitlement.

This roleplay is for people who know the English language and know it well. If that description doesn't fit you, don't waste your time signing up.
Don't reserve.
I find post-holds irritating. I'd rather if you didn't get on my nerves.

Name: Does it need an explanation?
Age: Depending on your age, various pieces of knowledge will be implanted in your brain. Think before picking whatever pops into your head.
Gender: Not Micheal Jackson or any other answers such as that. Some names don't tell whether someone is a boy or a girl. Use your head and figure out why you need to fill this form out.
Appearance: I was going to say that a picture would suffice, but then I realised I was mean. Two paragraphs should do the trick.
Biography/History: Your character's life story. Make it snappy and preferably not soppy or sad. I have enough depression to deal with, thanks.
Personality: How your character feels and thinks.

Edit: And yes, for those of who are wondering, I am Rekhyt from Pe2k. Does the avatar not give it away anyways?

Name: Piper Hallam (AKA Pip) ((I'm having waaay too much fun with the unusual names! :D))
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Appearance: Piper has light brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, and gray eyes. She has several gold hoop earrings on each ear. About 5' 10". She wears a way too-big tee-shirt, a black hoodie tied around her waist, and faded blue jeans. Her shoes are just plain running shoes. Piper is slim and looks pretty athletic, though definitely not body-builder. She's always wearing a green 1up mushroom beanie hat and a brown purse slung over her shoulder.
Biography/History: Basically, Piper's had a relatively normal life until now. A self-proclaimed "quasi-recluse", she'd been able to avoid almost everything that had been happening with the attacks by living "in the middle of nowhere" far from any other buildings and working from home. She was pretty sure that she could avoid whatever was happening by staying home as usual, buying extra food, a gun, and other supplies to be safe. Everything has gone all right for her, so far..
Personality: Can this be PO'd?

Name: Lauren Muir.

Age: Fourteen and three months. Lauren likes to be as accurate as possible.

Gender: Female.

Appearance: Lauren stands at the average height of a seventeen year old girl; somewhere between four and a half feet and 4"7'. She considers herself to be extremely tall and frets how tall she is when her thoughts aren't focused on boys, music and school. Her hair is blonde and died pink at the fringe. A while ago it fell down to her waist but she's had it cut so it only reaches her shoulders. Her eyes are bright blue. However, if you look closely enough, you would see that there is a speck of green in her right eye. Her nose is a crooked to the right by a minuscule amount, but she has already decided that she'll straighten it through plastic surgery when she's older. If she manages to survive in today's world, that is.

For clothes, you'll normally see her wearing a dress of some sort, not liking other clothes apart from jeans, which you'll never see her wearing because she thinks denim looks naff on anyone over twelve.

Biography/History: Lauren grew up in a city she doesn't remember the name of. Her younger years were innocent and carefree; she had managed to evade the bloodshed going on throughout the world thanks to her parents and teachers, who believed it was better that the chldren didn't know the crisis the world was facing. Of course, it started getting harder for her parents to keep up the act when her friends started disappearing, and eventually, she managed to get them to tell her the truth. First she was skeptical, but after seeing the newspaper reports, she accepted their version of events as fact and understood that her parents were only blocking her from the truth for her wellbeing.

That happened on the night she turned twelve. Her life continued to be dull and boring up until two years and a couple of months later, when her house was attacked. She woke up in the middle of the night to sounds of screaming and sobbing. Confused, she walked downstairs, wondering what was causing such a racket. Upon reaching the foot of the stairs, she saw her father rush out of the kitchen. When she asked him what was going on, he just shook his head and lifted her up before running up onto the stairs. He brought her up to the attic and told her to stay put while he escorted Lauren's mother and brother up to the hiding place. Ignoring her protests, he locked her in the attic.

He didn't come back up to her that night.

Upon being released from the attic by military officials the next day, Lauren found out that her house had been attacked by the beasts that were destroying mankind. Everyone except her who had lived under that roof perished that night. She was left on her own by the army, being told that there was an orphanage just across the river. But she didn't want to go to any orphanage, no. She wanted to live the rest of her life, alone. Wandering from city to city, doing whatever she could to stop any more attacks.

Personality: She describes herself as a dreaming realist while friends and people who know her all agree that she's a hyper, eccentric girl who needs to come back down to reality. She argues that those definitions practically add up to the same thing, and everyone else just gives up their debate in exasperation. She tends to procrastinate quite a lot and because of this, hardly ever hands in her homework, which has caused her teachers to classify her as a lazy student. Does she care? Not really. She thought school was pointless and that the way it was run throughout the nation needed to change drastically, but she's forgotten about since all schools have more or less shut down. In crisis-like situations, Lauren tends to stay calm, but no one is sure how she'll react during the next attack, now that her entire family has been massacred. She keeps saying that she's fine, but it's pretty obvious that her ego and confidence have taken a beating.

Evoli: Whether you do the personality or not, you're accepted.

Name: Corina Robles
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Appearance: Corina has unusual shiny red eyes and waist-length, wavy dark blue hair. She has a sensual body that she hides underneath baggy blue jeans and a turtleneck black jacket.

Biography/History: Corina had a normal, risk and terror free life. When she was 14 her parents told her more about the dangers that appeared on the newspapers, thinking that knowledge would be helpful. After two lucky years without any attacks, she arrived home to find it destroyed, and her parents in critical state. Both were in severe coma, and when they died two weeks later, she collected what was left from her possessions and left her hometown, nor very sure where to go, but hoping to find that place.

Personality: Corina is peaceful and shy, and will not be the first to introduce. She has a kind heart and will help other in all the ways she can, feeling down when she can't help at all. Her shyness makes her very forgettable, even with her closest friends, and people often only notice her when she starts talking. She is very stubborn but will panic in a danger situation

Name: Phil Mason
Age: 20
Gender: Male

Appearance: He stands about 5'10'' and is quite lanky. His hair is dark-brown, roughly cut, and falls slightly below his chin. His eyes are mismatched, one brown and one bright blue. If looked at closely, a very faint mustache can be seen. His hands are heavily scarred from years of working with electronics. His clothes are modest, but efficient; a black hoodie and a pair of heavily-pocketed khaki cargo pants.

Biography/History: He grew up as the eldest child in a relatively poor family, a home he eventually ran away from at age 15. Ever since he was a small child, he's had a proficiency with machines, so he was able to make a solid living up until the killings started. However, as a child he was also very accident-prone, and his experiments with electronics left him with very scarred hands. His mismatched eyes were caused by a tree-climbing accident in his early childhood.

Personality: He's a bit snarky, sometimes too much for his own good, so he has a tendency to seem a lot meaner than he really is. In reality, he's a very generous person who is intensely devoted to his friends. However, he's also a skeptic, so it takes a while to gain his trust. He also has an annoying habit of exaggerating.

((Yay genderbending!))

Name: Mystari(Mysti) Endris
Age: Ummm... 11? I ams still a child =D((Plus I like using my real age. Will change at the guy with the Japanese name's will))
Gender: Girl/Female.
Appearance: Mysti has long, blonde, curly hair. Now, just because she's blonde doesn't mean she's dumb. She is actually an A/B/one-C-in-her-life student(or rather was before her school was destroyed). Her eyes are a sparkly blue, and her ears are pierced. She never wears dangly earrings, and you usually see her with her emerald earrings on.

As for clothes, she usually wears a white T-shirt with pink sleeves. Sometimes, though, it is as mentioned before but with a cute kitty cat on it. Jeans are also a favorite, too, though she sometimes wears fabric pants that are brown. Her shoes match her shirt; pink and white.
Biography/History: Mysti was raised in a house where she was able to read at two years old. She has a little sister named Sydney. They once found a baby raccoon and they nursed it to health. It got too bonded, and refused to go into the wild again. His name is Pretzel ^.^When in sixth grade she got a C(+, actually) in math, her parents grounded her. A week afterward, her house was destroyed, parents, sister, and all relatives killed. Pretzel miracuously survived.((My true bio excluding all my relatives dying and my house going bye-bye. And keeping the raccoon.))
Personality: She is very hyper. She does, however, travel with Pretzel, who keeps her calm. By the way, Pretzel is a brown raccoon. She can be calm at times when needed.

Name: Major Arthur McDuff
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Appearance: McDuff is quite tall - he's pushing 6' 3, and has short, neat, blond hair and is clean shaven (normally - at this point his hair is a mess and he has stubble) with deep blue eyes. He has fairly well developed muscles, but not to a huge degree. He has a number of scratches/scars on his face, hands, and underneath his clothes from previous battles/wars. Clothing-wise, he is in uniform, which consists of a dark green jacket/trousers/shirt, with military rank markings and such. However, the uniform is worn and has been repaired in a few places.
He is carrying a sabre (single-handed sword with curved blade), rifle, and pistol, however he has a limited supply of bullets.
Biography/History: McDuff was raised in a rich family and was raised to be dignified and polite. He felt this came naturally, but was always interested in the military. He joined as an officer in the Greensweeps, a regiment many members of his family has served in, and rose up through the ranks, being 'a good leader and a competent fighter'. He was promoted to major just before the attacks began, and his regiment was on parade in some town he can't remember when they were called to action. It was slaughtered by the creatures, and only a third of the men were able to execute the retreat. McDuff was cut off from the regiment at this point, and forced to make a quick getaway. He is now searching for what remains of the army and his regiment.
Personality: He is polite, and very much a gentleman, but formal and not a little cold. He is graceful, but when he gets into a fight he can become more savage and vicious. His interest in historical warfare meant he trained in swordsmanship in his own time, and so is competent in the use of his sabre, even though it is only really a ceremonial weapon.

(I can reduce the weapons if you want to keep the violence down. Also, does guns and nuclear weapons not working mean there's too many of them or is it immunity to bullets ect., and what part of the world are we in?)

Mewtwo: It was a pretty hard decision to make, considering how rushed your character application was, but I figured you'll redeem yourself in time, so you're accepted.

Time Psyduck: You're in.

So, to answer your questions:

The amount of weapons Arthur is carrying is fine by me. The more violence, the better. After all, we're playing in what can sort of be recognised as a post-apocalyptic world, so you're going to assume that the survivors will want to, well, survive.

The whole thing about guns and nuclear weapons not working against them is not because they're immune, but because (as you said) there's just too many of them. Also, they're physically stronger than humans and are able to endure more pain, so bullets don't necessarily kill them instantly unless they connect with a body organ.

As for where our story takes place; no one's quite sure. You can be certain that the characters will find out eventually, though.

Moving on, I figure I may as well just start the roleplay now. School starts tomorrow and if I don't post now, I probably won't be posting for another week.

04:24:

Lauren rubbed her eyes, but refused to admit to her body that she was deprived of sleep by pressing on, trudging through the rubble in the hopes of finding somewhere decent to spend the night. She looked up at the sky. Was it still night? She didn't know how long it had been since she had started walking with her companions; time wasn't important anymore. By now, it could be morning. Up above, the clouds were no longer covering a pitch-black sky, but more or a navy shade. She sighed in exasperation. As soon as her teammates found somewhere nice to stay, they'd move on in search of the next city. To get away from the monsters and to try and find more survivors. The more the merrier, after all. She shook her head. If she was reverting to sarcasm already, she needed to go to sleep. Badly.

But she couldn't. The teenager knew it would be pointless to ask if they could stop for the night (or the morning, depending on how long they'd been walking), as there wasn't anywhere to stop. She glanced around her. Buildings had been laid to waste; buildings she could have resided in for as long as she wanted if the monsters hadn't attacked. She wasn't the only to have turned into a complete cynic; she knew that. Wandering around a ruined world for the rest of one's life is bound to sharpen one's personality. Despite this, Lauren still felt a bit depressed when she thought of how much happier she used to be. Even when the attacks were mounting up, she was able to laugh and smile. Her smiles have been forced for a good while, and even then, they've been few and far between.

Lauren stopped when she heard something out of the ordinary. The noise had been faint, but it had still been there. She stared down the path she had been walking for what seemed to be absolutely ages, open-mouthed, shaking her head in disbelief. There was no way the rumours could be true, was there?

Apparently, she was about to find out.

She looked around desperately, trying to find her only mentor. It didn't take too long to find him; he was about twenty meters away from her, trying to help young child get up from the ground to start walking again. "Tom!" She yelled as loud as she could.

Her outburst attracted not just the attention of the person she wanted to talk to, but about fifteen other people. Most of them, she hadn't talked to. What sort of first impression would this be?

Tom hurried over to her, abandoning the little kid, curious about the obvious worry given away in her voice. As soon as he had reached her, he looked at her, "you called?"

Lauren's breathing rate had suddenly intensified. "Tom, get everyone to safety. I think... I think we're about to be attacked." Her eyes looked into Tom's, begging him to prove her wrong, to tell her she was just being ridiculous.

Tom didn't seem overly upset by the news. "How do you know?" He asked quietly.

"I heard a noise, from back there." Lauren pointed her hand in the direction of the way the group had come. "And I recognised it, from when my house was attacked."

Tom wasn't one to doubt people's warnings, and Lauren seemed genuinely worried. He turned around and shouted, "my friends, it seems that we are about to be attacked by the beasts. Whatever happens, do not be alarmed. Panic spreads like wildfire, and it really isn't going to help us in the face of danger." He looked around. "Does anyone know a building, still intact? We need somewhere to hide out."

Lauren knew that the group would have to press on, even if the monsters were on their tails. There was nowhere to hide; all buildings were destroyed.

An elderly lady piped up from the crowd; "we could go West; that'll bring us to the forest. Perhaps we won't be detected in the darkness should we be covered by the trees as well."

It seemed no one had a better idea. They began to run towards the forest filled with Evergreens, wondering if this would be their last night.

OOC: Yes, you're also part of that group.

Mysti nodded at the one who said we should get to safety. "I have no idea where an intact building is. But I heard the noise too..."

Piper looked incredulous at the woman's suggestion, but followed the group anyway. Running was the absolute worst thing they could do; dogs and some other animals chased anything or anyone that ran away out of instinct. Still, it was better to stay with a group in this sort of situation. Less chance of being singled out as a target. In which case, she had a loaded gun in her hoodie pocket, just in case..

((Weapons, you say?))

Phil followed the group without a word, feeling his pockets to make sure that his large hunting knife and handgun were in place. He also felt his homemade, double-powered tazer. Not like there's anywhere else to go... he thought to himself, It's best not to split up, but really, the woods? How would that be any better? Oh well.

McDuff had heard something behind him, and had swung his rifle from his shoulder. He heard people closer to the head of the group organising a move towards some nearby woods.

They're smart, but then most of the fools died. And many more besides, he reflected solemnly.

As the group set off again, he turned almost fully around, and began to back up, watching for anything coming out of the night. He motioned to his men, and the dozen or so who were not seriously injured passed their comrades onto nearby civilians and formed an active defence. The men were an odd mix - probably two thirds were men he had gathered from the aftermath of the Greensweeps' disastrous battle with the creatures, whist the rest were others, like them, cut off from their regiments and now accompanying a civilian exodus, coming from everywhere and heading to somewhere he wasn't sure if anyone really knew. He was proud of them. Several times during their march they had been forced to fight again, and each had proven his worth many times. Then, just a few days before, they had come upon a group of civilians, heading in the same direction, and the men had, by common consensus, agreed to guard them. He had posted the men who had lighter wounds, and could still walk, to the flanks of the group, apart from the men without more than scratches or bruises, who had been at teh back helping the more seriously injured to continue.

Corina followed the rest of the group, carefully hearing and obeying any order given by the leaders. She hated not being able to help, so she wouldn't slow them down, either.

((I hassa weapon, too =D))

Mysti pulled out her Nun-chucks, ready to fight if and when needed. She twirled them around, carefully looking around in all directions for the monsters.

((NUNCHUCKS?! Mewtwo, my good sir, that just earned you like 12 awesome points. xD))

Lauren stumbled and fell forward. She shrieked in shock and prayed that the stampede of people wouldn't run her over. As soon as her head made contact with the pavement, she pushed herself back up and attempted to ignore the pain. She could treat that later; the priority was saving herself from an incoming attack. She looked around as she sprinted, unable to spot Tom or any of her friends in the crowd. She glanced in front of her, and noted that she was very close to entering the dense forest.

Just then, she heard a scream from her far left. She looked over (never stopping her feet) and saw ten or fifteen people running in several different directions. Why, some were even moving into the incoming attack! Panic swept over her and she wondered what was going on. Lauren's mind was fighting with her body now. She wasn't able to keep up the running. She wasn't fit enough. But she knew that if she stopped, her chances of surving would be very, very slim.

Suddenly, a man knocked into her from the left and she was thrown to the ground. For a couple of seconds, she lay there, trying to take into account what was happening. She felt something wet at the back of her head but she ignored it like she was ignoring the gash on her forehead from her fall about a minute ago. She leapt to her feet, began running and glanced to the left again, as that seemed to be where all the screams and shouts were coming from.

She gasped in fear and stopped running, immobilised by the sight in front of her. People were running in every direction to get away from a major obstacle in their path. Well, obstacle didn't exactly cut it. Lauren felt that no words could describe the being in front of her. A red dragon, about the size of a man and a half, was walking towards a middle-aged lady, who had fallen badly and judging by her moans of agaony, Lauren reckoned she was unable to get up. The oddest thing about the monster in front of her was that the end of its tail was on fire and the monster didn't care, nor did it appear to be feeling any pain.

Once again, terror managed to creep up inside Lauren. She figured this was the end, they couldn't get away from this. With some sort of sick fascination, she looked at the spectacle unfolding a few metres away from her. Unable to draw her eyes away, but wanting to break out into a run, but unable to do that too. Frozen to the spot.

The oversized reptile was now right beside the lady; having walked on two feet to get to her. To the shock of the thirty or forty people watching, the beast threw fire towards her from his mouth! Lauren turned away; she couldn't watch the lady burning to death.

She saw Tom running towards her. Why wasn't he going towards the forest?

"Come on!" He shouted to her. "We have to get moving!"

But all she could do was shake her head and stand on the spot, waiting for her death to come.

Idiots!
Piper was just as shocked as anyone else at the fiery lizard..thing, but why didn't anyone do anything useful? She ran forward, feeling slightly sick at the sight and fired multiple times at it's head and where she assumed its heart would be. She knew the sound of the gunshots would be loud enough for other creatures to hear and if this one didn't die it was going to come for her, but what it had just done to that poor woman.. she wanted this monster dead, dead, dead.
God.. what is that thing?!
