[11] bulbasaur vs Denryu (ref: Byrus)

This is when you know that you'll lose the battle. Nice going bulbasaur.

Protect against any Hypnosis or Sweet Kiss or Swagger or Encore attempts. Chill if Romero's underground.

Toxic/Protect/Chill~Rock Wrecker/Protect/Chill~Rock Wrecker/Protect/Chill

Well, start with Magic Coat obviously (Bulbapedia mix up with Role Play, blah, blah, blah) to bounce that Toxic right back in his face. Then two Jump Kicks, because I'm lazy and you have nothing stronger to throw at him besides Focus Punch. Don't worry Romero, I have faith in you, even if it seems that you aren't being that productive at the moment.

Magic Coat ~ Jump Kick x2

As the conked out Gurdurr is zapped back into his pokéball, Denryu motions for Romero Diazi to step up and take his place. The Buneary gives an eager squeak, then springs forward, his nose and ears twitching. Despite his fluffy coat, the biting cold has left Romero feeling somewhat drained, and he hops from foot to foot to regain some warmth.

Ampharos straightens up a little as she sees her new foe, acutely aware that he won't go down as easy as the last one. Her breath mists out in front of her as she watches him carefully, and she shuffles about restlessly on the frosted ground.

Round five

As the round starts off, Ampharos bares her needle like teeth at Romero, then utters a harsh gurgling sound as she generates the potent mix of toxins. Romero watches her carefully, his uncurled ear giving the occasional twitch as he slowly begins to form a shimmering coat of light around himself. The magic coat distorts the air around him into a prismatic display of shifting colours, but Ampharos pays it no heed. She spits the purple glob at Romero, and it hurtles through the air to land in the glimmering barrier. Romero grins, then flicks his paw, and the colours begin to swirl dizzily as they launch the poisonous projectile right back at its creator, much to her disgust.

Romero holds his paws up to his face to stifle a giggle as he watches Ampharos desperately try to claw away the purple sludge on her chest. It does little good, and the Larvitar’s arms fall limply to her sides as the toxins hiss and burn into her rocky hide. Ampharos gives a low growl as she hears Romero’s muffled laughter, but it quickly trails off as she is left doubled over with a sudden overwhelming feeling of nausea.

Romero takes a few bouncing steps back, then plants his feet firmly against the ice as he crouches down. Ampharos is still looking a bit woozy from the effects of the poison, but judging by the thunderous look on her face, she’s rapidly regaining her bearings. Acting quickly, Romero leaps upwards, his powerful hind legs propelling him high into the air.

As he comes flying down again, he forcefully kicks Ampharos with his outstretched foot, knocking her clean off her feet. A crack ripples through the Larvitar's stony hide as his foot connects, and the sound of crunching rock echoes throughout the storage. Ampharos gives a strangled howl as she falls with a thump, her stubby paws frantically clutching at the crack in her armour. When she manages to recompose herself, she winces and claws desperately at the slick floor in an attempt to right herself. The powerful kick has completely knocked the wind out of her, and her rocky hide is already looking somewhat battered. Gritting her teeth, Ampharos scrambles back up, glaring at the smug looking Buneary all the while. She’s got just the thing to wipe that smirk off his face though; and it involves a face full of boulder.

A small smile appears on her face as she roughly jabs her claws into the cracked floor, eager to test out her shiny new move. Romero frowns a little as he feels the floor begin to rumble, and he bounces about warily from foot to foot. Ampharos’s smile widens as she sees her opponent’s uneasy expression, and she takes a deep breath as she begins to form the huge rocky projectile. Chunks of earth and ragged stones begin to form together into one large single mass, and Ampharos promptly heaves it at Romero with a triumphant snarl.

Romero’s eyes widen as the rock hurtles towards him, and he frantically tries to scamper out of the way, but to no avail. The chunk of rock and stone catches him squarely in the chest, shattering into hundreds of jagged pieces as it knocks him flying. Romero gives a feeble groan as he crawls out from under the remnants of rock, wondering dazedly how a tiny Larvitar could have managed something like that. He gingerly crouches down again, then takes a few moments to compose himself before he takes another leap of faith. His kick once again connects with Ampharos’s chest, sending her flying back with a muffled gasp of pain.

Ampharos gives a low growl mixed with pain and anger. Her rocky form is looking worse for wear already, but she's still more than ready to prove she can dish out just as much as she gets. She staggers upright, then viciously jabs her claws into the ruined floor, a look of fiery determination on her face as she carves out another stone projectile. With a grunt, she hurls the rocky mass right at Romero, crushing the unfortunate Buneary beneath its tremendous weight. Broken chunks of rock fly everywhere as Romero frantically tries to escape the mass of debris, and his form looks badly ragged and bruised as he manages to hurl himself out again. He takes a teetering step forward, blinking rapidly and looking somewhat shell-shocked.

Battle notes

- I know it's not a reference, but I can't help but think of George Romero whenever I see your Buneary's nickname...
- I called Ampharos a boy last round by mistake. I seem to be making a habit out of misgendering bulbasaur's Pokémon or something.
- Denryu attacks first.

How did Ampharos use 31 energy this round...? I don't know if your scale charges 15% for Toxic, but... :/ Also, the arena damage is not governed by the damage cap.

The rock wreckers took 11% energy each, plus 2% extra due to guts. Toxic took 5% energy. I'm still going with Kratos's calculator here, so it charges a little extra for low PP moves. Aaaand fixed the arena damage.

Chilling recovers 10% energy. Rock wrecker is doing 26% damage with the boost from guts, and jump kick is doing 15% damage.

Also tweaked Ampharos's health a bit, because I accidentally applied STAB on the jump kicks.

Alright, Jump Kick all the way. Once you have been hit by at least one Rock Wrecker, use Healing Wish on Hohner the next action. If you're Taunted, just Jump Kick instead. And, if it's the third action, you've used two Jump Kicks already, and you were just hit by a Rock Wrecker, use Jump Kick instead of Healing Wish.

Round six

After a few moments of thought, bulbasaur motions for Ampharos to back down, then waves in Bismuth to take her place. Somewhat reluctantly, Ampharos trudges back beside her trainer, shivering and scowling all the while. Bismuth gives an excited bark and rushes forward, eager to get a taste of battle. Her dramatic entrance is quickly ruined however, when she begins slipping and sliding on the icy surface, letting out a series of frantic yelps as she scrambles to regain her balance

Romero winces as he sees his new opponent, and shuffles about nervously. His whole body is still aching horribly from the cascade of rocks, and Bismuth looks fresh and chipper compared to him. Still, he does get some amusement out of watching the Riolu stumble. Romero gives a weak laugh before crouching down, then jumps high into the air. As he descends towards the struggling Bismuth, he stretches out his foot to deliver a punishing kick to her chest. Bismuth gives a startled woof as Romero completely knocks the breath out of her, and goes flying backwards from the force of the hit.

Romero peers over warily at the fallen Bismuth, and quickly crouches down again in preparation for another quick strike. Bismuth growls as she pulls herself upright, placing each paw on the frozen floor slowly and carefully. She winces as he straightens herself up, and teeters alarmingly before she finally finds her feet. Bismuth gives a triumphant bark, but Romero is quick to ruin the moment with another vicious kick to the chest. Bismuth’s cry is abruptly cut off, and she gives a muffled groan of pain as she’s sent flying across the ice.

This time however, Bismuth is ready to retaliate. She heaves herself to her feet, then holds up her fists and glares over at the weary looking Romero. An amber glow surrounds her paws as Bismuth darts towards her foe, before she delivers a swift punch right to his gut. Romero gives a strangled sounding squeak and crumples to the ground, gasping for breath, while Bismuth gives a gleeful bark as she feels the surge of stolen energy.

Romero gives several hitching breaths as he scratches frantically at the ice, struggling to regain his bearings. Eventually, he manages to regulate his breathing somewhat, and regain some sense of composure. He grits his teeth and nervously peers over at Bismuth from behind his drooping ears. Bismuth is advancing towards him with her fists raised and her teeth bared. The sight of her is enough to spur the exhausted Buneary back to his feet, and he gives a weary cry as he takes another leap of faith.

Bismuth pauses and peers up at her airborne opponent, then gives an agitated snarl as she tries to get out of his way. Romero’s third kick finds its target however, and Bismuth is sent sprawling across the frozen ground once again. Bismuth gingerly rubs at her head as she pushes herself up from the ice, then promptly dashes right at Romero, intent on revenge. She's had just about enough of his relentless pummeling.

An orange aura flares up around Bismuth's flailing fists as she delivers another vicious punch right to Romero's gut. He doubles up in pain and falls onto the ice with a breathless groan, while Bismuth savours the boost of energy the attack brings her. She bounces back across the ice, staring down grimly at her struggling foe. The Buneary certainly doesn't look like he has much fight left in him, but he's making a brave effort to scramble back to his feet. He flails about desperately on the cold floor for a few moments, giving the occasional mutter and curse, then suddenly begins shivering madly.

Romero gives one last weak cry before he grows still, both ears drooping against his face. Bismuth looks up in surprise as the referee signals that Romero is unable to battle, and she gives a cheery bark.

Well, that command string will put him at lowest priority all round, so start off with Telekinesis to suspend him and stop him from getting to you, then throw out a couple of Psychics, mental intrusion style.

As Denryu recalls the defeated Romero, there is a soft chiming of bells as the tiny figure floating next to him gives an eager squeak. Hohner drifts forward, looking shivery and shaky but nevertheless eager to finally get a taste of battle.

Bismuth's ears perk up as she sees her new opponent, and her former glee quickly disappears as she gruffly prepares herself to fight again. She takes up a fighting stance and bares her teeth at the tiny psychic type floating overhead, and he simply looks down on her with a wide grin.

Round seven

Bismuth growls warily at Hohner, carefully eyeing him as he floats a little closer. Hohner’s soothe bell chimes softly as he moves, and he hums quietly as he begins to wave his stubby arms about. Bismuth looks on uncertainly at her peppy opponent, then gives a gasp of alarm as she suddenly finds herself floating upwards. She wriggles her dangling feet madly and flails about in desperation, but she is caught helplessly in the grip of Hohner’s psychic powers, and the Chingling has her right where he wants her.

While Bismuth is left snapping and snarling uselessly in mid-air, Hohner cheerfully prepares to go on the offence. He hums softly to himself as he closes his eyes, and a bright purple aura flares into life around his small form. Bismuth’s furious snarling quickly changes into agonised howls as a bolt of pain sears through her mind, leaving her flailing about worse than ever. Hohner’s psychic bubble holds her firmly in place however, and her frantic struggles finally cease as she's left trying to get her breath back.

Slowly and gingerly, Bismuth raises her head again, and glares over blearily at her foe's wide smile. She makes another brave attempt at breaking her invisible bonds, but her frantic flailing does nothing to weaken the psychic connection. With a soft ringing of bells, Hohner calmly floats around the struggling Riolu, and another shimmering purple aura lights up around him. Bismuth gives a pained howl as another spark of pain shoots through her mind, but her cries are noticeably weaker than before, and her limbs sag and twitch uselessly. She is brought some relief however, when the psychic bubble constricting her finally begins to fade, and she is sent plummeting gracelessly back to earth. She gives a muffled woof as she hits the cold floor, then awkwardly scrambles to get back to her feet. Despite the less than graceful landing, Bismuth is relieved to finally be in control again, but her whole body is stiff and aching.

Hmm... This is the less risky of the two options I was contemplating. So, let's do this! Bismuth, Double Team twice, then wait for Hohner's action before Payback-ing. If you've already been hit by a Psychic at any time, however, Crunch.

Round eight

Bismuth winces and stretches her sore limbs as she tries to get herself back in the game. She’s feeling like a real train-wreck, and the sight of Hohner jingling along merrily isn’t improving her mood either. Bismuth grits her teeth and dashes forward, struggling to ignore the persistent ache in her limbs. She slips and slides precariously over the slick floor before she finally finds her grip, and she gradually manages to pick up some speed.

Startled by his opponent’s sudden burst of energy, Hohner floats back a little, watching Bismuth’s unsteady progress from a safe distance. As Bismuth loops around the icy battlefield, identical copies begin to form in her wake, tracking their creator’s every move with prefect accuracy. When Bismuth slows to a halt, five Riolus are staring grimly over at Hohner, and the Chingling’s cheery demeanour is starting to fade. Hohner bobs up and down as he nervously peers over at the reinforcements, but they all look identical, and he’s completely forgot which one was the original.

Quickly losing patience, Hohner decides to just take his chances. All this staring is making him nervous. He frowns and rapidly waves his stubby arms about, then focuses his mind on the Riolu at the far right. He’s almost sure that’s the right one… His small form glows with a light purple glow as he reaches out with a psychic link, but he’s quickly dismayed to find that the Riolu vanishes as soon as he tries to launch an attack on its mind. He’s been duped!

Bismuth gives a small sigh of relief as she watches Hohner rapidly bob about and cry out in frustration. She’s dodged one bullet, but she’s pretty sure he isn’t going to give up so easily. Taking a deep breath, Bismuth takes off in another quick run, and her movements are noticeably more controlled than before. She’s starting to get the hang on running on the icy surface, though the flooring is still far from ideal. More copies peel off from her form, dashing alongside her and filling the room with colour.
Hohner looks on with dismay as more Riolu join the ranks, and the Chingling can’t help but feel a bit claustrophobic. He nervously fiddles with his soothe bell and quickly reminds himself that the majority are fakes; the real deal is hiding there somewhere, and he’s gonna get her. He focuses his mind for another attack, and takes aim at the Riolu in the middle. His target freezes up as Hohner lashes out with a blast of psychic energy, then abruptly vanishes into thin air again.

Hohner sags in disappointment as Bismuth gives a weary smile. She’s hoping her luck will hold just a bit longer, but she’s still wary and on edge. Hohner is wearing a nasty scowl now, and the jingle of his bells isn’t sounding so merry anymore. He viciously waves his stubby arms about, then lashes out with his mind for a third time. Another clone bites the dust, and Hohner careens wildly throughout the air as he gives off a series of furious squeaks.

If Bismuth wasn't so exhausted, she probably would have had a good laugh at Hohner's display. As it is, she simply begins to concentrate on her next task. She bares her teeth and crouches down as she prepares to leap, and a blackened shroud of dark energy begins to form around her. With a snarl, she pounces on her floating foe, and Hohner looks around in panic as he sees the horde of Riolu descending on him. He closes his eyes and cringes away while Bismuth lashes out with her teeth, the black aura of energy burning into her foe's skin.

When she backs off, Hohner is looking quite rattled, while Bismuth is panting and struggling to keep her balance.

Alright, you'll move first as he has to wait to see if you Chill.

Look for which Riolu has a shadow, that'll be the real one. Use Hypnosis on it. It is imperative that you don't miss, but you should have a good chance as he'll be surprised (hopefully) that you managed to avoid the clones. Use Dream Eater on his energy for the last two turns. If you do miss (you'll be on the Black Market faster than you can say "Ooops"), just end it by Psychic-ing twice.
