[15] Dazel vs Lord of the Fireflies (ref: Superbird)

Re: [15] Barubu vs Lord of the Fireflies (ref: Superbird)

Hmm. If you don't mind having to start over, we could open up the slot again.

All right, Dazel's going to be your new opponent.

Lord of the Fireflies chooses a Pokémon first, then Dazel chooses and commands first (unless he picks Wigglytuff). Good luck, both of you!

So sorry for the late reply! I'll be going with azumarill. Let's start off by setting up an aqua ring, then follow up with a pair of power-up punches. A bit bland, but commanding first is rarely otherwise, I guess. If he tries a charge beam, protect against it the first time.

Aqua ring / protect ~ power-up punch / protect ~ power-up punch / protect

And then, Barubu disappears. It wasn’t the work of one of the League’s many Abra, but whatever the cause, he wasn’t here any more. Sighing, the referee called for the TO, and at that signal Eifie came running, grabbing one of the participants who had been knocked out earlier to replace the disappeared combatant. While Dazel chose his pokémon, Lord of the Fireflies did a quick run to the pokémon center – for a moment the ref thought he had disappeared too – and came back with a fully-refreshed Wigglytuff, to battle against an Azumarill. The referee raised his flags, and the battlers got into position. This time, hopefully, the battle would last a bit longer.

Commands: Snatch ~ Thunder Wave ~ Tri-Attack

Azumarill begins the battle by setting up a familiar ring of safety-water – a wonderful tool for staying alive, she’s learned in many previous battles. She carefully breathes out a slow ring of water, oblivious to her big pink opponent, who watches with a wide smirk until the Aqua Ring is complete, and then glows with a dark energy as the completed band floats over to her and begins to encircle her body instead.

That’s not fair, Azumarill cries out at her opponent, I worked hard on that! But Sofa simply sticks her tongue out at her opponent. How rude! In defiance of her opponent’s terrible etiquette, Azumarill rushes forward towards her opponent and delivers a sharp punch to the Wigglytuff’s chest, power building up in her fist as she finishes the attack. Sofa seems to barely feel the impact – though Azumarill resolves to change that fact next time – and retaliates by taking a large hop backwards and firing a thin, almost transient, wave of electricity at her opponent.

Azumarill grabs her Wacan berry and prepares to bite into it, but before she can the attack strikes and she realizes it’s not damaging – no, it’s worse than that, it’s that paralysis attack. She groans as the static electricity sinks into her muscles all over, and, gritting her teeth, forces her now-too-stiff feet to carry her towards her opponent again. With a short leap, she again punches Sofa with the same fist as last time, though this time hampered by her muscle stiffness. The punch has about the same effect, thankfully, but as soon as the attack finishes, Sofa releases a thin white beam that throws Azumarill off effectively, sending the water rabbit pokémon bouncing a couple of times until she regains her balance and skids to a stop, kneeling in discomfort from her stiff limbs. She just has to endure it, she tells herself, it’ll be gone before too long.

Wow, that was literally the quickest reffing ever. A little over half an hour on the clock!

Let's begin with a one-action Skull Bash to raise that defense and hit hard, followed by Knock Off, then Charge Beam! If she uses Protect / Detect, or is otherwise unhittable, go for Work Up. Magic Coat anything reflectable. If she tries to leave the room, follow her (though it would be hard to move around quickly with that paralysis hurr hurr).

Skull Bash / Work Up / Magic Coat ~ Knock Off / Work Up / Magic Coat ~ Charge Beam / Work Up / Magic Coat

Also Superbird did you account for the STAB boost with Tri-Attack? Because I also tend to forget she's normal-type too :P

I totally did remember STAB. Don't look at that edit, it doesn't mean anything.

and i definitely didn't do all the calcs while mistakenly thinking sofa was a klefki

Start off with a façade; it might be a mistake to both take that skull bash damage and allow Sofa to take that defence boost, but as far as I can tell, there's no way to cancel that out, so I guess we'll have to deal with it. Let's follow up with a refresh to get rid of that annoying paralysis now that we've properly milked it, then wrap up with a knock-off of our own to even things out. We'll be taking a lot of damage this round, but with any luck, so will Sofa. Because she's Sofa King weak. Ha. Haha. I'm so lonely.

As soon as the referee waved the beginning of Round 2, Sofa began to tuck in her head, scrunching up her body into a spring. Her opponent took the opportunity, forcing her stiff muscles to carry her towards her pink opponent. As Azumarill gained momentum, she began to ignore her pain – no, not quite, rather, she was channeling that discomfort into her own attack. Springing forward with rage, she rammed right into Sofa, who skidded back a meter or so, and landed confidently on her feet, ready to meet Sofa’s incoming attack.

Or so she thought – but, as it turned out, when Sofa uncurled her body and shot forward like a missile into Azumarill, the blow was much more potent than she’d expected it to be. Struck hard, Azumarill flew back to her own side of the field once again, bouncing pitifully a few times before rebounding off the wall and skidding to a stop in about the same place as she had begun the round. All right, this paralysis was getting too annoying, she thought as she tried to force herself up from the ground – it was time to get rid of it. Azumarill began to concentrate, and her body began to cover itself in an increasing white light. And as the action went on, Azumarill began to feel less and less stiff – more and more mobile.

But the Refresh attack provided a huge opening, one that Sofa was loath to ignore. Following up her last attack, she approached her opponent and raised one hand, coated in a somewhat ironic Dark-Type energy, and just as Azumarill’s glow was fading away and the water rabbit was opening her eyes, Sofa slapped her opponent across the face. And Azumarill’s Wacan Berry went flying, its owner watching in sudden regret as it flew away towards the wall and settled, after bouncing a couple of times, on the floor near her current trainer.

That sort of action would not be tolerated! She had to even the odds with her opponent. So, without delay, Azumarill cloaked her own arm in dark energy and swiped across her opponent’s face in the same way she’d been hit just a few seconds prior. And too boot, she finished the attack with a short hop and a kick, to push Sofa away and give Azumarill a bit of breathing room. But it turned out that Sofa wasn’t going to use a physical attack this time, so distance didn’t matter quite as much – instead, the Wigglytuff gathered together an expanding collection of sparks, and released them in a somewhat unstructured beam that flew instantly towards Azumarill. The water rabbit cringed as the attack made contact, wishing she still had her Wacan berry to bite into to reduce the sting, but it wasn’t as bad as the Skull Bash earlier this round. She was still definitely in the running, and more than ready to lay some serious hurt on her opponent.

By your calculations, Azu should be at 61% (dat 92% still haunting you). Also, you reffed Knock Off as being normally effective against Wigglytuff, but it resists it since it's part fairy.

Small percents, I know, but they add up in the end!

wow i'm such a pain

And this is what I get for correcting things here but not in the master document. I've fixed the various errors.

And you are correct, Wigglytuff does indeed resist knock off. idk what I was thinking when I did that calc - at any rate, Sofa gets 4% health back.

before you ask, yes 75% is yellow green, not sea green

I'm naming the Azumarill "Couch," and there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it.

Start off with a body slam for good measure. Follow up with a waterfall, and then finish off with an aqua jet. (I don't want to spam the same move and then be disabled.) Use protect the first time Sofa tries an electric move. I really need to get better at commanding first.

Body slam / protect ~ water fall / protect ~ aqua jet / protect

Shock Wave to avoid that Body Slam, then Gravity to prevent that Aqua Jet. Finish with Zap Cannon. If that Waterfall makes you flinch, go for a simple Thunderbolt instead.

Between rounds, Azumarill’s trainer decided that she would now be called Couch. Not a bad name, Couch thought – certainly no worse than her opponent’s name. Although Couch didn’t roll off the tongue quite as well, couches were generally more comfy than sofas, and personally Couch really preferred couches. The arm rests and puffy back cushions of sofas always got in the way...whoa, is that a shock wave coming from that Sofa over there? Better avoid it.

Sofa huffs at her opponent as the requisite green Protect shield goes up around the alarmed Couch’s body. How dare the Azumarill to daydream during a battle? Sofa wonders what she was daydreaming about – did it have something to do with her new name? How silly, wasting thought time on that.

Couch slowly let the Protect shield down as soon as she ascertained that the attack was over, and then immediately shook her head to make sure she wouldn’t leave another opening like that again. And then, she charged forward, cloaking her body with water. This time, she didn’t jump at Sofa, instead rushing in low and catching the Wigglytuff by surprise, and then rising up with a watery uppercut with the power to climb a real waterfall. Sofa bounced away from the impact, unlike a real sofa which wouldn’t have bounced at all, and as she flew through the air she expanded her body, stretching out her limbs and glowing with a grayish color.

Her timing was off, perhaps, as she learned when she slammed into the floor, this time without bouncing, but she had at least done the right thing. She didn’t have much time to recover, though, before Sofa slammed into her once more, this time at a higher velocity than last time, and again without a jump – jumping would take far too much effort, and in fact moving her legs was difficult enough for Couch to do. But she released the Aqua Jet attack anyway, and slowly stepped backwards from Sofa, wary of what the Wigglytuff might do.

Indeed, Sofa’s body was already crackling with electricity, a steadily-increasing amount of it. Couch concentrated hard on her opponent – that electricity, she knew, was coming straight at her any second now...aaaaany second now.

The delay of Sofa’s attack did nothing to put Couch off her guard – if anything, she was more wary; her opponent was now visibly struggling to contain the immense energy crackling around her body, and condensing it into a gigantic ball of electricity, and about to throw it forward––and Couch instinctively dodge-rolled to the left, a sluggish action that didn’t accomplish much but was all she could really do to avoid the attack in this gravity, unable to jump out of the way. But as it turned out, she didn’t even need to do that – instead, the bolt of electricity flew upwards as Sofa lost her balance and fell flat on her back. And the ceiling lamp which it had hit promptly exploded, taking a good section of the ceiling with it. Couch continued to back away from where the Zap Cannon had hit, and with good reason – a large amount of silverware immediately fell through, several sharp forks and knives hitting the floor and staying there as if pulled by a magnet, and one leg of a dinner table could be seen above. As Couch glanced warily at the hole in the ceiling and Sofa tried to push herself up from the ground, the referee waved his flags to call the end of the round.
