Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.
Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.
Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?
Adonis does not, in fact, see the venonat. He does see some bushes in the direction that you're pointing, but his eyes aren't exactly made for sighting detail at long range. The ekans looks up at you and flicks his tongue, then turns to watch what is, to him, something much more interesting--the fight between the growlithe and the presumably wild ekans.
Adonis' is spoiled to a degree, though, when the action grinds to an abrupt halt as the front door to the house bursts open and a young man storms out onto the driveway. "Hey--hey! Get out of here!" he yells at the pokémon as soon as he sees them, making shooing motions with his arms. Both ekans and growlithe stop menacing one another and turn to look at the human. While the growlithe appears alarmed, the ekans' expression is difficult to read, especially at a distance.

Being an inexperienced water-type, and one currently suffering from a headache at that, Tankard isn't terribly confident he'll be able to pull off the psychic manipulation called for. Another aqua jet is no problem, and the nincada is once more forced back as Tankard hurtles into it. The bug's had enough of this nonsense, though, and rather than attempting another direct on Tankard, turns its attention to the ground and begins digging furiously, dirt spraying in all directions as it disappears into the soil. As soon as Tankard recovers from his own attack, he runs over to the edge of what is already a rather deep hole and peers in. There's no way he's getting an aqua jet down there. He looks blankly up at you, apparently at a loss.

(( No; because the ekans is already in your party, you don't need to pay for the arbok.
Also, I sense I may have misled you with the area description; sorry about that. ))
You walked towards the bushes at the edge of the forest, no doubt doing your best to be quiet and stealthy as you approached the hidden venonat. Any such efforts would be in vain, as the bug saw you coming many feet away. The bushes let out a faint rustle as the red glint showing through their leaves vanished. You would get no more than a brief flash of purple before the venonat was off; by the time you actually reached the bushes, it was clearly visible up ahead, hustling as fast as its stubby little legs could carry it. To say that it was any sort of "swift" would be an extreme exaggeration, but up for worthy consideration was the fact that it was it was headed straight into the forest.
Only moderately faster than the venonat himself, Adonis has a bit of difficulty keeping up with your brisk pace. He comes slithering up behind you as you pause at the edge of the forest, looking over the barrier of bushes and into the shadowy trees beyond. The snake glances behind as a distant shout drifts from the house across the field; the drama there was continuing, apparently.
(Also, what happens if a Pokemon that evolves via Trade while holding and item, e.g. a Scyther, is brought in with the item already attached, does the transfer count as a trade or not?)

The two cashiers were chatting with one another as you approached.
"...not what I expected, did you?" the first asked, and the second nodded.
"Yeah, I mean, they were talking about some kind of major crackdown, weren't they?"
They broke off when they noticed you approaching. "May I help you?" the first asked, while the eyes of the second drifted over to fix on your fellow shopper.

Tankard dutifully sat down at the edge of the nincada's hole, blowing a sparkling streamer of water into the air. The spray arced around, forming a ring around Tankard that continuously spat off small droplets. Even in the gloom of the forest, the weird ring gleamed faintly, some otherworldly energy holding it together.
Meanwhile, your glance around the area revealed nothing new, save that the light you'd seen earlier had grown more distant. This was perhaps not surprising, given that it couldn't have been more than a minute and a half since you'd last had a look around.
After a few more minutes, it became clear that the nincada had no intention of returning anytime soon. Tankard gazed without much interest down the quiet hole, while your pokédex lit up with a new message: "Tankard: EXP +1"
Grass King
(( No. ))
The cashier took the waiver from you and glanced at it. "Oh, sure, we've got this stuff in the back. Hang on a moment."
He went through a door behind the counter that was marked "Employees Only," leaving you alone with the other cashier. After a few seconds, the man stopped his blank staring and decided to focus on you instead. "So, you're a new trainer?" he asked in a bored tone.
His companion shortly returned, carrying a load of items. He dumped the lot in an untidy heap on the counter before you. "Well, there you go." It looked as though everything you had ordered was there, although it was somewhat difficult to tell due to its disarray.

Tankard stood up, looking a bit wistful as he glanced back at the hole into which the nincada had disappeared. The ring that Tankard had created dripped away to nothing as he hurried after you, stumbling along the dim forest floor. By now, the volbeat was some distance away and moving deeper into the forest, though not as fast as you were following. Tankard was having some trouble keeping up with you, his short legs making it hard to navigate the uneven ground strewn with dead branches and roots.
Skirting around a treetrunk, you would get a clear view of the volbeat at last, though the flickering of the bulb on his tail ruined your low-light vision and obscured him behind its glow. The bug was buzzing along maybe five feet off the ground, still not paying you any attention. Tankard struggled up behind you and squinted up at the bug for a moment. Then, mustering his energy, he dashed forward as fast as he could, yelling a loud "Squirt!" to get the volbeat's attention. The bug turned around and let out an exclamation of shock as it saw the squirtle approaching, buzzing backward with eyes wide. Tankard took advantage of its surprise by blasting another gout of water at the ground and catapulting himself into the air, colliding solidly with the volbeat.
The bug was knocked back with an unhappy screech, but the attack brought it back to attention quickly enough. As Tankard tumbled to an easy landing in the leaf litter, the bug spun around again and let out a tremendous flash from its bulb. Tankard let out a pained gurgle and tried to shield his face with his paws, and you got a faceful of the attack as well--as soon as the light diminished, you found yourself confronted by a world smeared over by blue and purple afterimages, only occasionally broken by the flickering of the volbeat's tail-bulb.
Tankard's accuracy is lowered (-1). You are partially blinded.

Tankard, blinking rapidly, looks around wildly. He looks in the direction of where the volbeat last was, squinting and trying to adjust his eyes...before firing off the aqua jet.
The attack connects squarely with the insect's torso, launching it backwards. Tankard stumbles to the ground, and the volbeat lands in the grass a few feet away. Righting itself, the bug retaliates with a tackle, causing the turtle to topple over. Tankard rocks back onto his feet, eyes still slightly watering, before unleashing another aqua jet. The volbeat lands a foot away, recovering in the air with assistance from its wings. Aggravated by the unpleasant turtle and person attacking it, it charges forward, once again. Tankard is pushed back a little, but it isn’t that bad.
You, however, are observing all of this through watering eyes, so it’s pretty much a blue and brown blur and a purple blur hitting one another. However, things are beginning to come back into focus. Neither of you have fully recovered your eyesight yet, though, so I recommend that you use caution.

Tankard, deciding that sticking to the winning strategy, shot off another aqua jet, rocketing forward. The volbeat, attempting to dodge, only manages to turn around before the impact. However…this gives it a very good opportunity.
Another blinding flash illuminates the clearing, and the world vanishes into bright lights dancing across your vision. Tankard yelps within the odd, shifting purple spots covering your field of vision, and by the sounds of it he has covered his eyes. Obviously, he reasons that sending himself rocketing forward will not be a good strategy here, so he decides to spend this time to relax and recuperate. He takes a few deep breaths, bracing himself for another one of the insects flimsy tackle attacks.
However…all that comes is vague whispering in volbeatianese. Shifty, shady sounding buzzing coming from the insect, wherever it is…However, Tankard delivers a quick, blunt line, and the whispering immediately stops. The volbeat is still somewhere in the clearing, considering its options while you and Tankard try to regain your vision.
