Okay, I'll go to the till, and get my items.

(How does item evolution work within the game by the way? Do stones activate upon contact, or does the Pokemon need to battle etc.)

Erm, till? You mean the cashier?

As for evolution stones, they work on contact.

Edit: I recommend that you hold off on paying for that girafarig; it's going to take you more than one post to get to it.

Adonis does not, in fact, see the venonat. He does see some bushes in the direction that you're pointing, but his eyes aren't exactly made for sighting detail at long range. The ekans looks up at you and flicks his tongue, then turns to watch what is, to him, something much more interesting--the fight between the growlithe and the presumably wild ekans.

Adonis' is spoiled to a degree, though, when the action grinds to an abrupt halt as the front door to the house bursts open and a young man storms out onto the driveway. "Hey--hey! Get out of here!" he yells at the pokémon as soon as he sees them, making shooing motions with his arms. Both ekans and growlithe stop menacing one another and turn to look at the human. While the growlithe appears alarmed, the ekans' expression is difficult to read, especially at a distance.

((And overwriting a Pokémon costs the same as importing one of the same stage/level/etc.?))

Okay... then I'll go ahead and move the bushes out of the way so he can see it. Then I'll have him do what I asked him to before--Disable it to lock it in place, and then Leer at it. If he can't Disable it properly and it runs, then we'll just have to follow it.

Yeah cashier, thats what I meant.

(I'll just delete my bank post for the Girafarig, and edit it out of my earlier post).

(Also, what happens if a Pokemon that evolves via Trade while holding and item, e.g. a Scyther, is brought in with the item already attached, does the transfer count as a trade or not?)

Being an inexperienced water-type, and one currently suffering from a headache at that, Tankard isn't terribly confident he'll be able to pull off the psychic manipulation called for. Another aqua jet is no problem, and the nincada is once more forced back as Tankard hurtles into it. The bug's had enough of this nonsense, though, and rather than attempting another direct on Tankard, turns its attention to the ground and begins digging furiously, dirt spraying in all directions as it disappears into the soil. As soon as Tankard recovers from his own attack, he runs over to the edge of what is already a rather deep hole and peers in. There's no way he's getting an aqua jet down there. He looks blankly up at you, apparently at a loss.

I stare at the hole cautiously, unsure if the nincada intends to leap out and attack or if it has just retreated. I'll just prepare for either, then: "Aqua Ring, how about, and then just chill. We'll see if it comes out. If it does, Aqua Jet."

I then look around to see which pokemon are around. I'll quickscan any pokemon I can find with the pokedex, to determine Tankard's next target if the nincada doesn't return soon.

Aqua Ring/Aqua Jet ~ Chill/Aqua Jet

The game now has six players, which is as many as I'm willing to take on at the moment. Therefore, I'm now opening the position of updater to anyone who would like to help out. Updaters will be paid $5 per week provided they make at least two updates in that time; I may consider adding bonus pay for updaters who provide more updates.

The primary skill necessary to become an updater is roleplaying competence. Please PM me if you are interested in a position.

The two cashiers were chatting with one another as you approached.

"...not what I expected, did you?" the first asked, and the second nodded.

"Yeah, I mean, they were talking about some kind of major crackdown, weren't they?"

They broke off when they noticed you approaching. "May I help you?" the first asked, while the eyes of the second drifted over to fix on your fellow shopper.

(( No; because the ekans is already in your party, you don't need to pay for the arbok.

Also, I sense I may have misled you with the area description; sorry about that. ))

You walked towards the bushes at the edge of the forest, no doubt doing your best to be quiet and stealthy as you approached the hidden venonat. Any such efforts would be in vain, as the bug saw you coming many feet away. The bushes let out a faint rustle as the red glint showing through their leaves vanished. You would get no more than a brief flash of purple before the venonat was off; by the time you actually reached the bushes, it was clearly visible up ahead, hustling as fast as its stubby little legs could carry it. To say that it was any sort of "swift" would be an extreme exaggeration, but up for worthy consideration was the fact that it was it was headed straight into the forest.

Only moderately faster than the venonat himself, Adonis has a bit of difficulty keeping up with your brisk pace. He comes slithering up behind you as you pause at the edge of the forest, looking over the barrier of bushes and into the shadowy trees beyond. The snake glances behind as a distant shout drifts from the house across the field; the drama there was continuing, apparently.

Professor Linden's lab wasn't the friendliest place to get your first pokémon. The lobby area was cramped and decorated in shades of industrial gray, with uncomfortable plastic chairs and harsh fluorescent lights. The service wasn't the best, either.

The lab aide took her time about getting your pokémon; she had to have taken at least ten minutes to retrieve your pokémon, and in the end she didn't even have all of your items with her. "Male torchic, male mudkip," she said, passing the pokéballs to you, one at a time. "Pokédex and item waiver." Once the device and the small slip of paper taped to its cover were handed over, the woman scribbled something on her clipboard. Without looking up, she asked, "Is that everything?"

You have received a male torchic, a male mudkip, a pokédex with license, and an item waiver.

Tankard dutifully sat down at the edge of the nincada's hole, blowing a sparkling streamer of water into the air. The spray arced around, forming a ring around Tankard that continuously spat off small droplets. Even in the gloom of the forest, the weird ring gleamed faintly, some otherworldly energy holding it together.

Meanwhile, your glance around the area revealed nothing new, save that the light you'd seen earlier had grown more distant. This was perhaps not surprising, given that it couldn't have been more than a minute and a half since you'd last had a look around.

After a few more minutes, it became clear that the nincada had no intention of returning anytime soon. Tankard gazed without much interest down the quiet hole, while your pokédex lit up with a new message: "Tankard: EXP +1"

Eh, I think we'll just turn around and head back into the city for now. I'll keep a look out for any Pokémon other than the shiny Growlithe and the other Ekans, and if I see any I'll quick-scan them with the Pokédex.

((Oh, and when importing Pokémon, do they have to be in the active squad or can you import from the PC as well?))

Sorry about the abysmal update time. Speaking of which, since I hope to approve some help soon, you need to choose how you want your game to be updated. You can choose either to be updated by any person who is free, which may increase how quickly you receive updates, or you can request that you be updated by the same person every time, which could get you a more interesting plot. Just post which one you'd like in your next update.

Also, still looking for people interested in working as an updater.

Adonis glances up at you, tongue flicking out as he watches you turn and start back towards the city. Wondering what that was all about, the snake does an about-face and follows after you, sliding easily through the scruffy grass. By this point, the man had managed to scare the growlithe away from his house, and it had disappeared, but he was having some difficulty convincing the ekans to stop hanging out in his garbage; it looked serenely unimpressed by his threats.

Meanwhile, the only other pokémon you noticed on your way back to town was a roselia that had rooted itself across the field to the east, where it seemed content to sit and photosynthesize for the moment.

The cashier took the waiver from you and glanced at it. "Oh, sure, we've got this stuff in the back. Hang on a moment."

He went through a door behind the counter that was marked "Employees Only," leaving you alone with the other cashier. After a few seconds, the man stopped his blank staring and decided to focus on you instead. "So, you're a new trainer?" he asked in a bored tone.

His companion shortly returned, carrying a load of items. He dumped the lot in an untidy heap on the counter before you. "Well, there you go." It looked as though everything you had ordered was there, although it was somewhat difficult to tell due to its disarray.

The woman had already started turning away; apparently, she had decided that that was "everything," even if you hadn't. She reluctantly turned back to answer your question. "They're waiting for you at the local Pokénart. When you leave the lab, go down the street towards the Holodome, take the first left and go about halfway down the street. It's on the right."

Kusarigamaitachi

Tankard stood up, looking a bit wistful as he glanced back at the hole into which the nincada had disappeared. The ring that Tankard had created dripped away to nothing as he hurried after you, stumbling along the dim forest floor. By now, the volbeat was some distance away and moving deeper into the forest, though not as fast as you were following. Tankard was having some trouble keeping up with you, his short legs making it hard to navigate the uneven ground strewn with dead branches and roots.

Skirting around a treetrunk, you would get a clear view of the volbeat at last, though the flickering of the bulb on his tail ruined your low-light vision and obscured him behind its glow. The bug was buzzing along maybe five feet off the ground, still not paying you any attention. Tankard struggled up behind you and squinted up at the bug for a moment. Then, mustering his energy, he dashed forward as fast as he could, yelling a loud "Squirt!" to get the volbeat's attention. The bug turned around and let out an exclamation of shock as it saw the squirtle approaching, buzzing backward with eyes wide. Tankard took advantage of its surprise by blasting another gout of water at the ground and catapulting himself into the air, colliding solidly with the volbeat.

The bug was knocked back with an unhappy screech, but the attack brought it back to attention quickly enough. As Tankard tumbled to an easy landing in the leaf litter, the bug spun around again and let out a tremendous flash from its bulb. Tankard let out a pained gurgle and tried to shield his face with his paws, and you got a faceful of the attack as well--as soon as the light diminished, you found yourself confronted by a world smeared over by blue and purple afterimages, only occasionally broken by the flickering of the volbeat's tail-bulb.

Tankard's accuracy is lowered (-1). You are partially blinded.

Well, I happen to be the new updater. So...I suppose I'll just get to work.

With a nod and a smile, you begin to sort the items into your bag. The cashier who questioned you is a little annoyed that you haven't answered to him, but that isn't important. With your items taken care of, you turn and leave the store.

Your next destination is the Pokémon Center, which, luckily, is only about a block away. A quick stroll down the sidewalk only interrupted while waiting for the traffic light to change, brings you to the doorway. Inside, the center has a rather pleasing, mellow combination of Pink, cream, and beige.

"Hello!" A young woman behind a counter leans forward, putting down her cat magazine to greet you. "Can I help you with anything?" She asks, with a slightly strained smile. Her hand hovers over the switch to the healing machine, should it be of any need.

It shouldn't, though, as what you’re looking for is lined up against the right side of the center. The computers are all booted up and unoccupied, save for one, which a red headed girl is using to view a hilarious video of a dancing Dunsparce.

You have gained 5 pokeballs, two greatballs, three potions, a full heal and a revive.

Kusarigamaitachi

Tankard, blinking rapidly, looks around wildly. He looks in the direction of where the volbeat last was, squinting and trying to adjust his eyes...before firing off the aqua jet.

The attack connects squarely with the insect's torso, launching it backwards. Tankard stumbles to the ground, and the volbeat lands in the grass a few feet away. Righting itself, the bug retaliates with a tackle, causing the turtle to topple over. Tankard rocks back onto his feet, eyes still slightly watering, before unleashing another aqua jet. The volbeat lands a foot away, recovering in the air with assistance from its wings. Aggravated by the unpleasant turtle and person attacking it, it charges forward, once again. Tankard is pushed back a little, but it isn’t that bad.

You, however, are observing all of this through watering eyes, so it’s pretty much a blue and brown blur and a purple blur hitting one another. However, things are beginning to come back into focus. Neither of you have fully recovered your eyesight yet, though, so I recommend that you use caution.

Blurs are better than nothing. It means there's a target.

"Keep using Aqua Jet," I order. "If you find you can't aim, just chill."

So now that I've approved some people, I can go ahead and do what I've been waiting to do since February. Since "I" am already an NPC in this game, I guess I'll play with this guy:

Name: Evan Young
Sex: Male
Age: 16

Description: Skeevy's probably the best description of Evan. He spends most of his time indoors, in front of the computer. It's uncertain how often he bathes, and his teeth are a mess; considering his diet, it's likely that, without a naturally fast metabolism, he'd have serious weight issues as well. As it stands, he's a scrawny, unhealthy-looking individual, his lank blond hair often falling in front of his eyes and his almost painfully pale skin pockmarked by acne. Thin and lacking most any muscle tone, he's only ever seen in an overlarge black sweatshirt and baggy jeans, both badly stained. His posture is hunched, making him appear much shorter than he actually is, and he wears a perpetual scowl--which is probably best for everybody, because it at least serves to conceal tooth decay.

Personality: If Evan's unlikely to win any awards for his appearance, he's even less likely to do so for his personality. Bad-tempered and arrogant to a fault, he looks down upon other people and avoids them as much as possible. As has already been insinuated, he spends most of his time alone with a screen of one sort or another, and when he does talk to other people, online or in person, it's usually to tell them how wrong they are. He doesn't carry himself well in an argument, being likely to regress to shouting and insults at the slightest evidence of opposition. Even when not sniping at other people, he remains maddeningly smug and assured of his own superiority, despite the fact that nobody else appears to recognize his brilliance. He is smart, or at least adept at problem-solving, but he just can't stop reminding people of this. Truly, Evan is a person who cares only for himself. He even views other people's rejection of him as indication of their lack of taste and intelligence, rather than as a sign that he should make friends with a bar of soap or six. He's stubborn, obviously, and driven, but only about things that he really cares about. If something's not to his taste, he'll morph into a lazy, whiny creature who wouldn't lift a finger to save his (hypothetical) best friend's skin.

History: Evan's history is nothing spectacular. Born and raised in Jubilife City, he was party to a disappointing, if not awful, childhood. His parents both worked and had no other children, leading Evan to seek the company of others in order to keep himself occupied throughout the day. However, his physical capabilities leaving something to be desired, he was hardly the first pick for tag or baseball, and often felt alienated from his peers. He increasingly learned to entertain himself and turn the scorn of the other children back upon them, deciding that he didn't need them. He found solace in the world of computers, where he was always in control and his hand-eye coordination had little bearing upon his success.

Much of Evan's free time was spent online, and as much of his school time as possible, too. Evan was never more than a mediocre student; school focused too much on stuff that he didn't care about--and worse, it was filled with stupid people. Fortunately, most of them gave him a wide berth, and those that didn't were heartily ignored. For some reason, Evan never really attracted any bullies, possibly because said bullies found it impossible to intimidate or browbeat him; perhaps they just didn't want to catch whatever he had. While Evan's parents were certainly worried by their son's failure to take care of himself, they weren't around enough to do a great deal about it, and he kept his bedroom door locked as much as possible anyway.

At fifteen, Evan discovered TCoDCorp and, more specifically, its ASB. Being particularly interested in holographic simulation, he decided to ditch school and his family and take a trip to the distant region of Asber to participate in its battling challenges. It would offer him plenty of opportunity to study advanced programming techniques, not to mention show up a bunch of losers--Evan was quite good at pokésims, though he'd never tried out the "real thing." Too much walking.

However, Evan found that he didn't exactly fit in with the other ASBattlers he met in ASB Central, and after a few nasty fights, Negrek banned him from the game. Humiliated and infuriated, Evan was physically cast out of Asber's holo-dome and sent away to seethe. If the holo-dome's systems weren't self-contained and completely out of reach now that he couldn't even cross the threshold of the building, he would have compromised the system right there and then. As it was, he had to settle for a slightly more indirect revenge: hacking the trainer registry system that recorded the status of all Asber's citizens and take over Negrek's account. Pulling a little cash out of her account and swiping a couple of her pokémon, Evan laid plans for his pokémon training adventure. That stupid girl thought she could stop him, did she? Well, she had another thing coming. At this point, his plans were more than a little amorphous--he'd pay Negrek back for his totally unfair banninantion, somehow... for now, stealing her stuff was good enough, but Evan was sure he'd find something out there that would constitute a fitting punishment for crossing him.

I'm not taking a starter pack. Instead, I'm paying for a pokédex, a trainer's license, two pokéballs, two potions, a revive, and an antidote. I'll also pay the registration fees necessary to bring in the following two pokémon with no experience:

[Mjolnir] mareep (F)
[Negrek] slugma (M)

That should run me $63.

An important note on the pokédex--it's been hacked so that, while it displays Evan's proper license and registration information, it interacts with Negrek's computer account. This allows him to access any of her pokémon, her money, and so forth, while maintaining an independent trainer profile that matches his personal information.

I'll start outside the Pokémon Center in ASB Central, as that's where Evan would have been to withdraw some of Negrek's pokémon in preparation for his journey. Also, dedicated updater please.

Tankard, deciding that sticking to the winning strategy, shot off another aqua jet, rocketing forward. The volbeat, attempting to dodge, only manages to turn around before the impact. However…this gives it a very good opportunity.

Another blinding flash illuminates the clearing, and the world vanishes into bright lights dancing across your vision. Tankard yelps within the odd, shifting purple spots covering your field of vision, and by the sounds of it he has covered his eyes. Obviously, he reasons that sending himself rocketing forward will not be a good strategy here, so he decides to spend this time to relax and recuperate. He takes a few deep breaths, bracing himself for another one of the insects flimsy tackle attacks.

However…all that comes is vague whispering in volbeatianese. Shifty, shady sounding buzzing coming from the insect, wherever it is…However, Tankard delivers a quick, blunt line, and the whispering immediately stops. The volbeat is still somewhere in the clearing, considering its options while you and Tankard try to regain your vision.

Negrek

You stand outside of the Pokemon center, the weight of two new Pokeballs resting comfortably wherever you’ve decided to keep the things. With this, so many new options lie before you…the only question is where to begin. At the moment, you stand in a busy part of town, with obviously less intelligent people scurrying about you, going on with their pathetic business. Perhaps you should find a less populated area…somewhere where these idiots won’t be blundering about.

You recieved 1 Pokedex, 1 Trainer's License, 2 Pokeballs, 2 Potions, 1 revive, and 1 Antidote.

"Close your eyes and chill and chill. Aqua Jet if you think you have your vision back."

Meanwhile, I keep my own eyes shut while trying to rub them and try to remember if there's any sort of health plan that covers eye damage in the ASB program.
