Yami yawns. She’s been fighting hard for a while, after all, and she’s pretty bushed right now. Even if her opponent attacks her, she thinks it’s a wise idea to get herself some nice rest for the battle ahead, even if it may not be much. On the other side of the arena, Xiaoyu decides to do the same thing—but even while resting up, she questions her motives for doing so. She’s already almost completely energized, so why would she ever need another rest? Well, anyway, her opponent is making no effort to attack her, so she may as well continue.

And so Xiaoyu and Yami both end up lying on the ground resting…until Xiaoyu begins to float again. Now that she’s back and fully recharged (not that she really needed the extra, but.) she’s ready for action. Her head feels a lot calmer now, and she begins to reflect on the events of the past rounds. As soon as she was sent out, her opponent knocked away more than half of her vitality. And then he had the nerve to go and brag about it! What a lousy, stinking, rotten little—and soon, Xiaoyu is fuming with anger and rushing towards Yami. The Houndour yawns, and barely knows what hits it as the Chinchou rams into it a few times.

As soon as the attack ends, Yami jumps back and growls a little. How could she be so pea-brained as to let that happen? She was an idiot right there! What an idiot! Silently, the Houndour makes a pact with herself never to doze off in battle again—unless ordered to, of course. Upon finishing her silent promise, Yami begins to snarl some more—but this time, she puts some Dark-type energy behind her growls, and as they pierce through the air they irritate her opponent’s eardrums and seriously reduce Xiaoyu’s concentration.

Xiaoyu shakes her head, partially in disgust and partially to try to get rid of that awful sound she just heard. Good Arceus, it was horrible! Well,, she thinks, Despite that, I’ve still got to hurt Yami as much as possible. The Chinchou remembers her trainer’s orders to use Brine; it seems like a brilliant idea to her, and she is content to go through with it. Using the benefits of her Water typing, Xiaoyu creates a blast of horribly salty water right above Yami. The Houndour barely has time to yelp before the blast gushes down, not only soaking her but also pouring into her wounds and causing near-unbearable amounts of pain.

But Yami stands strong. Despite the fact that that attack hurt a lot, she’s determined not to give in to her opponent. Is she can beat Xiaoyu, it’ll prove that not only can she take on two enemies in a row, but that she can also take down a water-type even when weakened. Thus, she begins to attack resiliently. Channeling as many dark and evil thoughts into her head as possible, Yami begins to point her body at Xiaoyu. The Chinchou is floating normally, wearing a satisfied expression—until Yami releases her attack. As she does so, all of the sinister, horrible thoughts stored inside her brain gush out and pulse toward Xiaoyu. The attack soaks through her mental shield, almost causing lasting pain, but soon Xaioyu is back and ready to continue.

This was the second time the battlers had to call for an emergency referee, and they were growing increasingly impatient. Mercifully enough, the second (and hopefully last) referee responded quickly. With a small pop a wormhole appeared, and out stepped a large mechanical dragon. She stretched her wings, accidentally knocking aside Superbird, the previous emergency referee. Curiously, he didn’t even react, just fell to the ground with a thump. Perhaps his mind was in another body. ASB physics were just that awesome.

Ignoring Superbird, the battlers turned towards each other, eager to finish the battle. Both Pokemon were on their last legs, and it wouldn’t be long before one party was victorious.

Bracing herself for one last stand, Yami crouched threateningly. She was quite an intimidating sight: ears laid back, teeth bared, muscles taut as if about to spring. From her throat issued a ghastly snarl laced with a venomous undertone. Despite herself, Xiaoyu shuddered. The sound sent a ripple of fear through her body, and she was painfully reminded of how powerful her opponent was. The Houndour had a type disadvantage, and she had already been worn down, yet the two were practically on equal grounds now: it was really quite the feat.

Xiaoyu was a bit hesitant to attack Yami now, as if she expected gruesome retribution. Nevertheless, she obediently drew water from unseen stores in her body. Her cheeks puffed up as her mouth filled with liquid. Her face scrunched up uncomfortably, for this was no ordinary water: it was terribly salty, and it tasted quite awful. Hastily Xiaoyu spat the water at Yami in a thin stream. The Houndour howled as the hated water hissed against her skin, then again as the salt found the wounds on her body. It stung horribly and she flopped about in pain, her entire being assaulted by cold liquid or burning salt.

When Xiaoyu had finally exhausted her supply of saltwater, Yami was left on the ground in a miserable soaking heap. The Houndour was hanging on by the thinnest thread. Even so, she managed to shoot a hateful glare at her opponent and let loose with another vicious growl. Again, that primal fear stirred within Xiaoyu, making her feel physically ill. It wouldn’t be long until she fainted, too, but at least she could take Yami down first.

Xiaoyu’s cheeks puffed up again, and upon seeing this Yami let out a groan and closed her eyes. When the burning tide crashed onto her again, the Houndour did not writhe in agony, just submitted to unconsciousness with a final whimper. Panting, the weakening Xiaoyu still managed a small smile as her opponent was recalled into her Pokeball.

With some congratulatory words and the promise of many dog biscuits, Yami was recalled. Though she was unconscious, it almost seemed like her ears twitched in anticipation. Rest assured the Houndour would not have to wait long; Xiaoyu was clearly on her last legs.

Another flash of red light announced the arrival of Byrus’s final Pokemon. Xiaoyu cringed, expecting a fearsome beast that would knock her unconscious in a heartbeat. Instead, a small shape began to form… a fluffy mammal… a Buneary?

Byrus’s Buneary of doom hopped on the spot, ecstatic to be able to battle, then visibly sagged with disappointment when he saw his opponent. That half-dead Chinchou? She looked like she’d fall over with the next puff of wind. Hopefully there’d be another Pokemon after that. Meanwhile, Xiaoyu let out a sigh. She’d be dominated by a Buneary, of all things. Her teammates would never let her hear the end of it.

Fiver took a moment to gather energy at his paw, then cocked his arm back and made a throwing motion. Dozens of tiny white spheres sprang forth, flattening into rough star shapes mid-flight. These stars veered all over the place, some turning left, others swerving to the right, some curving towards the sky, others bouncing off the withered plain. Xiaoyu had no hope of avoiding such a widespread attack. The stars’ points were razor-sharp and sliced countless shallow cuts into Xiaoyu’s blue skin. Though the attack wasn’t very strong, it was enough to push the Chinchou over the edge. Overwhelmed by her wounds, she gave a final gurgle before slumping limply forward.

Final notes
Xiaoyu fainted on the first action.

Fiver gave his trainer a puzzled glance as Xiaoyu was recalled; was that really it? Apparently so, as the trainers crossed the arena to give each other a handshake. Fiver gave a disappointed sigh, but he supposed there were other battles to come, and at least he’d knocked something out. The Buneary was recalled into his Pokeball without another complaint.

After the end-of-battle formalities were finished, the referee began to distribute the prizes, struggling to separate the bills with her feathers (she ought to invest in mechanical arms). As soon as the battlers got their money, there was a small pop and an Abra materialized in front of them. Everyone present hastily gathered around the league-owned psychic, eager to teleport back to civilization. The dead, deserted field gave them the creeps.

The battle is over and Byrus is the winner. He gets $24. Gastro, Yami, and Fiver all get 2 EXP.
ultraviolet gets $9. Gwenfair gets 1 EXP and is now eligible for evolution, while Oubliette and Xiaoyu both get 2 EXP.
I get $5 for reffing; Superbird and RespectTheBlade may both claim $5 as well.

What are you talking about there is absolutely no shame in being bested by a monstrously fluffy bunny

Ha, so yeah, thanks for finishing this off blazheirio, and good battle ultraviolet. It did drag on a bit, but the fight between Gastro and Gwen was especially fun. Enjoy your Nidoqueen.
