Open Dreams of the Past

Cole smiled; he wasn't hurt, then. Trying to think back on the events following the other woman's arrival, her smile faded and her heart clenched. "The…I don't know when you fell unconscious, but…the Dusknoir came back, and everyone started fighting. Then the Aerodactyl picked me up and flew me away for a bit, but I watched…the blonde woman was protected by Sinar—the Solrock—but when Lance came out he got attacked as well. And then…" She paused and looked away, absently scratching 63 behind the ears. "Well, he's dead now. And I think it's safe. We're all heading back to base…you could probably come, if you wanted."

Base...? Was that what they called where they worked? It seemed like a good idea as any, and maybe 63 would find someone there who would be able to help. Cole seemed like a nice person, so, why not?

"Um, I guess I'll come with you all," 63 said.

"'Not like what I'm going to here?'" Zrantox echoed, "It couldn't be that bad." Then it hit him. "Unless you are referring to-"

"Yes, Zrantox. Humanity."

"So, you think you can just restore my arm and then think that I'll listen to anything regarding those vile creatures? Do you think I can be so easily bribed?!"

"Zrantox, I can't even begin to understand how you felt when your brothers were taken from you. I can't pretend to understand, either. But you must hear me out."

"Why?!" Zrantox said, "Give me one good reason why I should listen to anything you have to say about humans!"

Giratina paused for several moments, and said at last: I have no reason. Please," He said, raising a wing before Zrantox could protest, "Just hear me out. If you decide my reasoning is insufficient, then I will let you leave the Torn World, and you get to keep the arm. Otherwise..."

"Otherwise what?" Zrantox said, caution in his voice.

"You'll see," Giratina said, "You will see."

"Sounds good. Here, let's get in a vehicle…" Cole considered the group of trucks before her and decided that, if she was allowed, she'd feel most safe with someone who knew what she was doing. Namely, Tanya. Making her way to the trailer and gesturing for 63 to follow, she looked inside and asked quietly, "Mind if I ride with you, Tanya?"

Sinar looked around. It could not locate any other sleepers, they seem to have dispersed. Without a way of knowing where Skaldia went, Sinar decided to follow 63 instead.

Fair enough., Sinar told 63 and Nicole, I shall accompany you as well.

Tanya watched the human and two Pokemon approaching her trailer. She nodded when she heard them. "Of course, come on in. Nicole, can you get the doors after you?" She laid down along the bottom of the trailer, yawning. "Well, it'll be nice to finally get back to civilization..."

A rumble underneath Tanya shook her a little. The various trucks, including hers, began starting up as the dig team loaded onto them. The equipment had already been loaded. It was only then up to the sleepers to decide whether to get onto a truck and come to Goldenrod, or remain back and find their own path in this new world.

Tanya chuckled a little bit. "Well, just remember first, this government is run by the corporations. People can choose who they want to believe in, and work for that company, but overall management is corrupt and socially unequal. That said, companies now are very extensive, with divisions that deal with a number of different necessities... food, construction, weapons, vehicles. We make a lot of different products, and we sell them mostly to our on employees for their survival. There is also a lot of business to business trade, allowing more specialization - and more profits - in certain areas, but it's not smart to let other corporations produce products you absolutely need, so those deal more with luxuries." She began to pat the Manectric with her tail, smiling. "Now then, why don't you tell me about yourself. What was life like before you were put to sleep? What do you remember from it?"

63 didn't really understand what Tanya was saying about the corporations, and kind of felt like she was dodging the question he had originally asked, but regardless, he answered her.

"I, um," he began, "I don't really remember anything from before I was put to sleep. I don't know. I remember my basic knowledge of the world, like the city names, but otherwise I remember nothing."

You were placed in the chambers against your will., Sinar said, At least, there was a struggle before the humans used their tranquilizers before placing you inside. I suppose why you would not have desired to be placed inside the chambers is a mystery to you, though.

Sinar then added, I often find, however, that things forgotten do not actually disappear from the mind. Rather, one cannot recall them for any number of reasons.

Closing the trailer doors with a loud bang, Cole cringed at the noise and said, "Is there one city name that stands out in your mind? Maybe that would be the city you came from?"

((Fail. -_-))

"Fine," Zrantox said, "I will listen... for now."

Without another word, Giratina began:

"In the world you reside, there are many balances. Light and Darkness, Life and Death, War and Peace. These balances are necessary to keep the world safe. Should a being come along who disturbs those balances... their fate is hidden from even us."

"And let me guess: humans and pokemon are one of those balances," Zrantox said, voice thick with malice.

"Correct. You have shown yourself to be a powerful warrior on my behalf. Had I any say in your fate, I would have stopped Lance and his kind from catching you and your brothers."

"But you couldn't, could you?" Zrantox snarled, "Because those vile humans challenged the balance-"

"Exactly. And in doing so, they brought upon you the idea that they are undeserving of life. Thus, you now go along, attempting to upset the balance. Each time one being upsets the balance, it causes another to upset the balance. As long as humans and pokemon cannot coexist in this world, it will never find balance."

"Then why not just eradicate all of them?" Zrantox said, "They are undeserving of life! They must be-"

"Zrantox, it isn't up to us to decide whether or not humans are undeserving of life. That decision is up to the hands of fate. Now, you must go back into the other world, and help bring balance to it."

Giratina flew in closer. "Zrantox, you must go back to that world, and attempt to create coexistence between humans and pokemon!"

What Sinar said sounded rather familiar to 63. It took a few seconds before he realized that he had dreamed that the first time he had blacked out. But the main question was though, why on earth had he not remembered something like that in the first place?

"Is there one city name that stand out in your mind? Maybe that would be the city you came from?" Cole asked.

It was a good question, but unfortunately, no city came to mind.

"No," 63 said, "no city really comes to mind."

Skaldia staggered as the Arcanine decided to take a ride on her back. "I'm tired of this!" she roared, apparently forgetting that she had offered Cole the ride earlier. Quite off balance, she flapped heavily and then... spun. Which was quite the mean thing to do, but he was heavy - she simply rolled, forcing him to get off. "You're too heavy." she snarled as she turned to gain height.

((Blehblehbleh, why am I afflicted with waking up at hellish times for two weeks in a row. x_x Yeah. I'm tired. Don't expect good quality... as evident in this post.))

The aerodactly spun, but that only made Kleh'Drentaht dig his claws in deeper. "If you want me off," he grunted, "You'll have to land."

((Too late to write anything more.))

((Given that Skaldia rolled - as in, went upside down - there's not really a way for Kleh to stay on unless he's half-Persian and has claws of diamond. x3 She is Rock/Flying, yes?))

They were driving.

And what a drive it was! During the whole trip, Mourmedy found her concentration limited... it seemed like that Lance man kept staring at her. It made her feel uneasy. What sort of things was he plotting? Why was he looking at her like that?

She decided not to ask, it'd be best to drive in silence. The more he spoke... the more muddled her mind would become. And she didn't understand what it was. Never had such a wave of irrationality hit her like it did whenever his mouth opened.

It was disgraceful.

"So Mourmedy..." In the corner of her eye, she could see him smiling. "What sort of things do you do at your headquarters?"

"That isn't of your concern." She tried to reply in the most mechanical manner she could, but some of the strange emotion had slipped into her voice.

"Ah, I see... well, will you at least answer... what's it like in Goldenrod now?"

Hmm... now? It sounded as if he hadn't visited it in a while. She was silent for a while, considering how to answer. Casual conversations were never really her thing. She had only been used to speaking with others to command them.

"It is... very industrial." She said uneasily and haltingly, wishing for nothing more than to arrive at Goldenrod as quickly as possible. Why... why did she feel so anxious?

Mourmedy heard him chuckle, and felt embarassed. He was making a fool of her, mocking her!

"It's alway been industrial!"

Quickly, she regained her composure.

"Yes... that is right."

((Oh fine...))

Kleh'Drentaht was flung to the ground, and he thought he heard a crack as he hit the ground.

"Heh, heh."

Zrantox began shaking, he was laughing so hard.

"Ha! Do you honestly think that I would believe such garbage?! I have been killing- or at least, attempting to kill -humans for several hundred years. What would make you think that I of all pokemon would be suited for this job?!"

A sudden shift in movement showed that Giratina had moved behind him.

"If you don't believe me, Zrantox, then maybe you'll believe what I'm about to show you."

The dimensions in front of the two shifted, and three massive rectangles appeared.

"These are called soul cards," Giratina explained, "I can use them to determine one's past, present, and, yes, their future. I will now use them to show you yours, Zrantox."

The first panel flipped over.

"The Last Warrior From Another Planet, Right-Side Up. You, Zrantox, are the last of your brothers, and continue to fight for a cause that has been long determined futile."

The second panel flipped over.

"Emissary of the Afterlife, Upside-Down. You have long since abandoned your post as my servant, and now continue to bring humans to the next life- through your means."

The last card flipped over.

"Rite of Spirit, Right-Side Up. Having been corrupted through your hatred, your spirit must now begin a trial of its own. You must return to your world, and begin this new mission, Zrantox."

The Dusknoir couldn't deny what he was seeing. After all, the first two accurately described his past and present. But the last...

"How do I know that you aren't simply manipulating these dimensions to show me what you want? This is your dimension, after all."

"And you may have been Lance's pokemon. But he couldn't control you, now could he?"

Zrantox gave a harsh laugh. "True. But even so..."

"I suppose it all comes down to this question: if one of your brothers were in your position, what do you think they would do?"

Zrantox thought it over for several moments. At last, he had his answer.

"Send me back."

Giratina said not another word. He gestured with a claw-wing, and a portal opened.

That will take your spirit back to your body. I wish you luck on your mission, Zrantox."

The Dusknoir entered the portal, and it closed around him. Once it had vanished, Giratina looked away.

"You certainly will need it."
