Many of the ASB legends who joined in 2005 have since retired, such as Cryssie, opal, MD, and Dark Nido, just to name a few. Two stalwarts who have been ASBers since the year of the league's inception, however, are Zhorken and Rarity. Both have also spent time away from the league, however: Zhorken temporarily hung up his Pokeballs, while Rarity was jailed for perjury. However, with the exception of ASB president Negrek, they are the two ASBers with the earliest registration date among everyone who has signed up for Generation 5, and so, these two grizzled veterans take to the field, knowing that there are millions of young children watching them on Asber (I think that's what our region is called) television and idolizing them.

Veteran's Field is called that because, it is a standard field, but every fourth round, a random third Pokemon will enter the battlefield, and stay until four rounds after that, and so on - every fourth round after Round 4, the Pokemon on the battlefield will be changed. It is always a basic that can evolve. It is a wild Pokemon and will use three random attacks each round. If the Pokemon is defeated, EXP is also given. Truly, this battlefield is for veterans of ASB.

Pre-Round

Several days had passed since the last round, and the crowd had thinned to the point only a few hardcore fans and some curious groups of teenagers were still hanging around. The referee had disappeared mysteriously with no sign of return, and none of the league’s referees had seemed interested in the challenge, considering it out of their league, presumably. The television teams had vanished after three hours of tense wait, hot-dogs had cooled down, and it is a Zhorken on the edge of desperation who made a last call to the Emergency Referee Outpost.

And while an answer was given, it probably wasn’t the one they hoped for, considering how important the battle was.

Riding his trustworthy Piloswine, ultimate rookie referee Lord of the Fireflies entered the battlefield in a hurry, with messy hair and sleepy eyes. He let out a jaw-dropping yawn, mumbled a short speech about how honoured he had been to be waken up at seven on the first day of this year of 2012 to become the official referee of the prestigious battle. With a delicate kick to the knee, he woke Effercon up. The battler took a moment to remember what the heck they were doing there.

Slowly, everybody completed their waking up routine (including the Pidove, who had not stop being a nuisance and just sat patiently, waiting for the battle to continue) and the referee, finally, waved his flag to signal the round open.

Round V Begin

Frost shook off the snow that covered its body from frozen vapour and, as if it didn’t have the time to do so already, shut its eyes and took a nap, cooling down its already near absolute zero body. Enver, on the other hand, was twitching, pushed to the edge of a nervous crisis by the delay. Barely leaving any time to the Cryogonal to actually complete its move, the Buneary dashed, his fist glowing with blindingly white light, and collided into the Ice-type with might, leaving an open fissure on its… uh… cheek. The normal-type didn’t have much time to celebrate, however, as the second his feet touched the ground, a gust of sharp, slicing wind scooped him up and sent him flying a few meters away, courtesy of their forgotten opponent. The Pidove peeped with joy, and Frost grinned devilishly (like he could smile in any other way).

The sounds of the battle had woken up the local population, it seems, as the crowd was now bigger and noisier than before.

Frost ignored the growing ovations and continued its restoration, its body bathed in white light. Nothing really amazing, to be honest. But as the Ice-type opened its eyes, it noticed Enver begged to differ. The bunny was tear-eyed and bewildered. “Bun, Bun, Buneary!” he claimed. A certain Meowth could’ve translated it as “Although the fact that by terms of this skirmish I am reluctant to complimenting my adversary, I must admit that that chill of yours was truly astonishing, by its grace and detached beauty, and that it was an honour to simply eye its exquisiteness!” Frost stopped for an instant, unsure of how to react to the knightly words. Surely, if even its opponent stepped on his ego just to evoke how impressive it was, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to do it again, would it? Lost in its thoughts, the Cryogonal didn’t even notice its second foe fly above him, furiously flapping his tiny wings. A shower of feathers fell from above, sticking on its edgy, angular body.

Around the arena, the seats were nearly full again and cameras were moving around once more.

Effercon’s Pokémon was still irresolute. Was chilling really the best thing to do? From a purely logical point of view, he had enough energy to defeat its opponent here and now, but playing with the Buneary a few more minutes, dazzling him with its legendary cool down couldn’t hurt, right? As Frost unrelentingly recovered its energy, Enver the Buneary found himself forced to mimic his foe, his body now nearly uncooperative of tiredness.

While the two of them were sleeping peacefully, our friend the Pidove decided to be a jerk again and approached Enver slowly, carefully… and let out the loudest tweet allowed by his tiny lungs. And that was a hell of a tweet. Then Buneary’s sensitive ears twitched in agony as his eyes widened. He stood up slowly, holding his head in his hands and glaring at the bird, his gaze promising the most painful of deaths.

The eye contact broke when the crowd, now fully complete again, roared for more bloody action, warmed up by the beer and the smell of freshly cooked hot-dogs.

Hit Frost with two Drain Punches, then a Quick Attack if need be. Hopefully the Pidove won't keep hating us and we won't actually need the Quick Attack, but it doesn't look like any randomness wants to not hate us in this battle.

If Effercon uses action one or two to switch to his Spiritomb, use Foresight on it. If he uses an action to switch to anything else, or if you can't hit Frost for some other reason, Chill.

Round VI Begin

If Frost had thought logically for an instant, instead of just jabbering about how perfectly geometrically awesome it was, it would’ve had stood a chance against Enver. Alas, the totality of its concentration was allocated to chilling in the most dazzling way possible. It didn’t even stop when the bunny hit it with a violent, health-draining punch – and stared at him in horror for a moment, but convinced itself it was just a nasty trick to prevent it from chill as astoundingly as it was possible for a bipolar evil snowflake.

On the other side of the arena, Effercon muttered a last “No Frost what the hell are you doing” before Enver collided with it in a burst of light and life energy orbs flying everywhere. Frost crashed heavily to the ground with a loud cracking sound, and stayed there, motionless. A vague “Hoooooh…” echoed on the field from the thousands of live spectators. Effercon sighed; there was nothing else to be done. The veteran recalled the ice-type in a beam of red light while our friend the Pidove, who had been waiting there all round long in a fighting stance, realized it was over for the moment, and adopted a normal position. Well that was a silly thing to do on TV, wasn’t it?
