Help me choose an FF game (please)

So...which one?

So I have been presented with the option of getting one of three Final Fantasy games, 7, 8, or 9. The problem is, I don't know which one to get. I don't really care about the plots, since I pretty much already know what happens in them, but I'd like to choose the one of them that's the most fun and replayable.

I'm leaning towards 7 or 8, but I think it would be kind of useful to get some insight from people who've actually played them. So help me please, if you can.

By the way, FF7 costs about $50, FF8 about $20, and FF9 costs a little under $15.

Personally, I'd get FF8, finish it, then go for FF9.

I think everyone and their mom's know what FF7's plotline is.

I haven't played VIII, but I have played VII and IX.

VII is fun, I guess, but I'm not sure it's worth paying $50 for if you already know what happens. I never found it to be one of those games you can play just for the sake of playing; the story's pretty much all it has, and if you already know how it ends, you're probably going to end up getting bored of it.

I might be kind of biased towards IX because it's one of my favorite FF games, but it is the cheapest and I'd say it's worth playing through. Or, if you were to buy both VIII and IX, you'd still be paying less than you would for VII; I'd probably go for those two and just pirate VII or something. But again, I haven't played VIII.

I'd say VIII and IX. VIII is my favorite.

As the others have said, VII doesn't have the same mystique nowadays, so to speak. Fun, to be sure, but the plot certainly won't be exciting.

Mind you, $50 is actually a reasonable price for VII AFAIK, not that that makes it anymore worth it.

I know that $50 is a pretty reasonable price, considering how much people overcharge for it. I'm considering, since I'm not too certain about IX, maybe what I'll do is get VII, wait a while, and then get VIII. Or vice versa. Yet I still don't know what I'll do.

I'm going to have to recommend VII. VIII is just unashamedly bad, and although IX is apparently better than VII, I've never played it so I can't tell you to get it in good conscience.

To be honest, VII is pretty good anyway. It's not as amazing as some fanboys will claim, but if you can get past the lego graphics it's quite a fun little gem. Yeah, everyone knows the plot, but who cares. Even if you know that so-and-so dies and so-and-so is the big ultimate villain, doesn't mean that you'll know about the various plot twists throughout the game.

I've played VIII and I thought it was amazing. It's my favourite out of the FF series.

Yeah, I don't think VIII's as bad as everyone thinks; the characters and plot aren't great, but once you get the hang of the battle system (which took me a good 80% of the game, but I'm an idiot) it's fun.

I'd go for IX, though. It's cheap, the characters are great and the music is <3

Under any other circumstances I'd say VII, and I had to vote for it on the poll or I'd never forgive myself. XD It's definitely the best FF game I've played, and is my favourite game ever, but I played it when I had no idea about the plot, had never played a proper RPG before, and didn't even know what Final Fantasy was or whether it was a series or not. If you know the plot and know the characters then it might not be for you, but the battle system is the best of FF, the music is absolutely phenomenal and the plot is very intricate. I might only like it so much though because it's so nostalgic for me. But for that much money, maybe not - why don't you buy it on eBay for something a lot cheaper? o_o

VIII is the FF only a certain type of player will really love, so you might not want to take the risk. The characters are very good and much more developed than the ones in VII (only the main trio in VII were awesome).

As for IX, I've never played it because I haven't had the chance unfortunately, but I've heard it's very good and most people tend to like it more than VII. Though that might be because of all the attention VII has gotten.

If you don't really give two shits about the plot, get IX. It's prolly (almost definitely) the funnest out of all of them. VII I think has the best plot, but if you don't want IX, get VIII.

i'd say get ff9. the characters are far more fleshed out in ff9 than they are in ff8. ff7.. eh. if you ever get a ps3, they put it up there recently. you can probably get it that way for much cheaper. it's probably worth it to play that last of the three.

Go for VIII. If you like games that allow you to control all aspects of you character's stats through magic, good characters and an okay story, and Triple Triad, go for that.

If not, and you want awesome characters, and one of the best rivalries ever known to date, and an okay story, go for VII.

Either way, you can't go wrong with either one of them, since they're probably the best main series FF games.

MEh, I say you should of got 7 with 9. There are so many advances on 7 it almost pays off to get it first so you can understand alternate plots better. D=
