Christ. This is one of the creepiest games I've ever played. Let me see if I can give you a brief overview.
You play as ... well, someone. And you basically play out their dreams. You have no action button or anything. pause menu? nope. You walk around and explore your dream scape. Now, there's a map, and the areas are linked, yes! if you go the right way, you'll end up where you want to be. However, if you run into an object, a wall, a person, etc, you'll be transported to a random area. This is called 'linking'. Now, the objects, people, and events you encounter SEEM to be totally random (this game literally seems to be sentient, though, so I wouldn't say totally random) and the texture changes range from subtle to WHAT THE FUCK EVERYTHING IS NEON AND HAS KANJI ON IT!.
... here's some screenshots I took. this game is weird. (note: all these screenshots are relatively non-creepy because, at the creepy parts, I didn't give a FUCK about taking a screenshot I wanted to get the hell out of there, or, I was so shocked my hands literally left the keyboard, meaning no screenshot.)
I encountered these peacocks in the Japanese town looking area. They'd look in one direction until I got close enough, when they'd turn towards me and start displaying their feathers, then bringing them back, displaying them again, over and over again.
this guy scares the fuck out of me. i've seen him in various other playthroughs i've watched on youtube, and sometimes he has a bare skull instead of a face. i don't even want to encounter that.
these odd things were in the lawn in front of the house area. one of them started running away (as you can see) while the other one just stood there, stretching its arms.
this motherfucker ran fast, so i couldn't get to see it. there were three other horses, too.
i was in the desert when these vultures started circling above me. needless to say i got the fuck out of there. notice the fucking weird sun.
i don't even know. a giant caravan, floating in the sky. when I approached, it disappeared.
at one point (no screenshot), I was in this dark cityscape. I ended up in an alleyway. I was looking around when I noticed three bloody corpses lying on the ground. In my attempt to get the fuck out of there, I ran into a wall. I teleported right back into the city, but I was out of that alleyway. ... But there were bodies EVERYWHERE. I couldn't take five steps without finding one. it was at this point I noticed my lights were off in my room. I turned around and noticed my closet door was open. pitch black.
I started breathing as hard as tailsy's mum does in bed and had to get up and, without facing the closet, turn my lights on at the wall. but wait! the light switch was in the on position! fuck. I had to walk backwards into the middle of my room (towards the closet >_<) and reach up blindly to turn on the light at the fan.
tl;dr this game scares the fuck out of me
everyone should go obtain this game legally (heh) and play it! it was a japan-only release for the PSX, however, so ... yeah.
