I don't think mineral abuse is really an abuse of minerals because if you punched a rock, you would hurt yourself more than the rock.

Firstly, not being able to feel pain isn't the same thing as being invulnerable, and the potential for harm is as much a problem as the inflicted pain. Secondly, given their behavior in battle, Pokémon with mineral or metallic bodies clearly have some kind of sensation in the material.
