They disappear when destroyed. Alas. Familiars, right? She's a witch after all.

Alive, they feel a little fuzzy, no fur but a soft white layer on top, and they're soft and squishy and cuddly. Cuddling them feels like a strange mixture of plush toy and actual pet - they don't have the warmth of true (endothermic) life but they've got more apparent structure than than a stuffed animal. When cuddled they'll also move to accommodate that. When they drop their consciousnesses they go completely boneless and limp because they've got no real skeleton... but that doesn't happen often. Their tails look like they should be fur but - like Kyubey's - it's got the same substance inside.

They're made out of soul that is in complete and utter Despair. Any bit of soul that is not totally in Despair would disappear upon the death of the body, since Quitterie's power only extracts the Despair from them.

Well the first thing to realise is that the range of a Qbey's signal is 100 m, so even if they're spaced out it's pretty likely the Qbey's going to have a connection to Quitterie.

But lbr she's not going to be interfering much in the daily life of a first year. Qbey on its own is essentially Kyubey, but without offering wishes or anything. Individuals may show their source's personalities over time, but there's always the same undercurrent of that personality having given completely over to Despair so now it just does as Despair says, and it acts in a cute Kyubey manner because that's what Despair desires. Instead of saving the universe they exist to spread Despair, plain and simple. If you're in a Madoka-like position they might even lecture you about it, only they have Quitterie's exact view on Despair, so it's not sensible like Kyubey's.

Qbeys can send out their own comments, not just transmit messages, but for Katie that's not going to mean much. All she'll notice, I guess, is it following her around or liking to ride on her shoulder, or it liking to sit in people's arms or on top of bags or things, it falling asleep adorably at the corner of her desk, etc. Cute animal things, except basically nonstop, so anyone who considers animals to have lives of their own might get a little creeped out.

Well it's not like she's rooming with an animal specialist, so *shrug*
