2008 American Presidential Election

Who would you prefer to see lead the United States?

Who do you think would be a better leader for the United States and why?

I voted for Obama. Despite the fact that he'd also be an awful president, he's the lesser of two evils. McCain, quite honestly, scares the hell out of me.

From this Last.fm group's description:
John McCain is the Republican nomination for the next American Presidential Election.

-He's a war hawk who has no problem with occupying Iraq for another 100 years, at a cost of between $100 billion and $150 billion per year.
-He's economically inept; Bob Greenstein, the director of the CBPP, called McCain's program "one of the most fiscally irresponsible plans we've seen by a presidential candidate in a long time."
-He's known to have a "hot temper"; for someone who will be in charge of the worlds most powerful military and would have his finger on the button of a nuclear arsenal, him in power is not in the American, nor the worlds, interests.

All this and he's not even President yet...

I'm gonna have to say Obama. From all the political stuff I've seen, Bush seems to have done a bad job and put us in a hole. Since McCain is also a Repuplican, he'll just dig the hole deeper. Obama will actually try and get us out, since he's Democratic. So Obama.

Ugh, no offense, but the fact that you're 12 years old probably has something to do with why you think that way.

I suppose being three years older makes all the difference in judgement here!

Anyway I'd vote Obama but actually I'd vote Nader if he could not suck and be useful.

Between the old rich white asshole and the awesome half-black guy, hmm well,
He did have some moments though

Mccain's wife: *pats his head* Whoa John you're getting a little thin up there :)
Him: Yeah well at least I don't plaster on the make-up like a trollop, you cunt.

Jesus, Obama and McCain are both eejits. If I had my way, all countries would have a leaderless government. Not sure how it'd work but I think it'd make sense.

I wish Giuliani knew how to run a campaign. He was pretty good as a mayor, so I don't see why he wouldn't make a good president. :)
Bleh, now it's just the two people that I was hoping would lose. Ah well, Obama would be a lousy president, but at least he'd be a well-loved one. I'm going with Obama on this one...

I say Obama because he fits the bill for America. Anti-war, pro-environment. Even though I won't get a vote, I think that he would do the job rather well. John McCain just doesn't seem right.

Okay I'm pretty retarded, explain why Obama would make a shitty president.
I hope it's not because he lacks experience because that's bullshit.

Obama is a better president than McCain but I don't think he has enough... power to convince all the christian elite groups and sort of overthrow the old guard if you know what I mean

obviously he's doing the right things with respect to Iraq and all that but I also have doubts about his economics, but w/e, John McCain is worse at that anyway

I don't care who is in charge of the US anyway outside of the fact that it's not a moron (GWB jr., talking to you buddy!) but eh

I don't like him simply because unlike most people, I'm not too crazy about socialism. :/
I want to see a country with a Laissez-faire economic system for once...

Heh, I bet noone is going to agree with me on this.

laissez-faire economies is like asking for greedy multinational corporations to usurp everything, in fact, america is pretty much a laissez-faire economy apart from Bush fucking up the currency

Like an oversized goverment is any better?
America isn't anywhere near being a laissez-faire. It's a mixed economy, with parts of both capitalist and socialist economic systems being used. Really, it's a great idea, but I want to see something new get tried. I don't think a true laissez-faire economic system has ever been used, and to be honest, I doubt if it ever will be...
The whole idea of capitalism is that the corporations have to improve their products, or else people will take their business elsewhere. The only problem with this is that it is possible for a corporation to buy anouther corporation. People think this will eventually lead to a single all-powerful corporation, which isn't that realistic. Look at Sears in the 40s and look at Sears today. Even the most powerful corporations eventually collapse, since there is constant competition.

On the other end of the spectrum, radical socialism (not ordinary socialism) is pretty much the same thing, but with just one business without any competition. The goverment controls most/all businesses, leading to a overly rich and corrupt goverment.

There is no perfect economic system. I'm just talking about the extremes, but still...

Meh, again, NOONE is going to agree with me on this. People are too hostile towards business, despite the fact businesses affect the ecomony more than anything else in most non-Utopian countrys.

i think you need to have a mix, because communism is too bureaucratic and because pure laissez-faire economies would just leave us at the mercy of this world's greedy bastards. i don't think humans can cope with that sort of freedom. there's a good reason we have rules in society.

I don't think it would. Corporations do collapse, even the powerful ones, even in a laissez-faire system...
Humans need that kind of freedom, I think. Anarchy would be the best option if there wasn't such a thing as crime/war/other countries, so why not try to get as close to it as possible while still keeping the people safe?

errr crime/war/other countries are a pretty widespread problem and anarchy has been shown not to work

not to burst your little bubble but I've been over this one a hundred times and it does not work ever.

and are you honestly telling me you are putting your trust in the human race to keep themselves safe? most humans would sell off all their family members to survive
