Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. R/S/E A few pointers?

I got Emerald from a friend today, and am starting a new game. Any pointers, hints, or help? Best starter, recommended team, stuff like that would be a nice help. Go into detail about EVs and stuff if you want.
Do I seem demanding?

Uh, do whatever you like. You don't really have to care about such choices during the course of the game. You can begin looking into EVs and stuff when you get to the Battle Frontier.

Well...I think having the following types on your team would help in the elite four

Ice
Fire
Water
Electric
Fighting
Ground

You don't have to choose those types but with those you might not have to do as much training. To add to those I suggest a flying type to fly with. To get all those types maybe you could get a Pokemon with combined types. Ice/water is most common, I think. I find psychic type useful in the games but as I've said it's your choice. Blaziken I think is the best starter and he/she really works well in the elite four again it's your choice. Don't worry about EV's till the battle frontier as said before. I won't recommend a team for you but the earlier you get the Pokemon the better so I'd usually end up with:

Swampert[no I don't choose Blaziken even if he/she is best]
Gardevoir[I'm somewhat patient in the games, unlike real life. You can get Ralts very early in the game but she/he's rare]
Ninetales[no I don't like Numel because I don't like camels but Numel is Fire/Gorund which covers two types]
Manectric[get pretty early in the game but if you'd prefer Plusle or Minum you get them at the same place]
Flygon[I admit, not very early in the game but a good Pokemon and it's dragon but if you'd like a flyer early then get Swallow]
Hariyama[somewhat early, good fighting type]

So that's it.

It's ingame -- go with whatever you want. Favorites first! ;)

Uh, only advice is the advice that I give for any pokemon games - for all that is holy, save your ethers, elixirs and leppa berries until you're in the elite four. You don't really need them before then anyway. Also, lava cookies are the best alternatives to full heal as they're like a fraction of the price but do the same thing.

Enjoy~

Seconded, also soda pop is both better and cheaper than super potions (and I think the same price as a potion).
Also if you start with Treeco you need to make sure you have a decent pokémon with a ground or fighting attack before you attempt the third gym or cycling road (Torchic (fire) or mudkip (ground) will provide this, although you need to evolve mudkip to get the electrical immunity), otherwise Magnemite/Magneton will be a real pain. After this there isn't really an issue.

I would recommend starting with Mudkip, since it gets you through the first four gyms in a snap, but evolve it before the third gym, at least. Since it's so easy to get through the game with Swampert in your team, I really don't have any more advice.

If you want to start with Treecko, I recommend having a Geodude somewhere on your team (you catch them in that cave in Dewford). Be sure that it knows Magnitude by the third gym, and watch out for the Voltorbs' Selfdestruct; even though they're faster than Geodude, I recommend using Geodude through the whole gym, since it will also give you an advantage on the fourth and fifth gyms. Just be sure to train your Pokémon so that they're around the same level as Geodude after the Electric gym!

If you like Torchic best, train it enough so it knows Double Kick by the time you get to Roxanne. I also recommend getting a Skitty, so that you can weaken the Nosepass that Roxanne has before you use Combusken. You should use Combusken on the Geodude; a simple Double Kick should defeat it, and if it doesn't, use another one.

Okay, thanks everyone. I'm at Winona already :) Started with Mudkip. Personally, I like Salamence *avatar*, but is it better than Flygon for the Battle Frontier?

I personally haven't gotten that far but I started with Treecko and found a Skarmory to be a good team member to have. This is the team I currently have (and swap over on occasion): Grovyle, Gardevoir, Minun, Skarmory, Marill, Pikachu, Mightyena, Sableye.

I'm not a fan of the fire types available so far =/

Right, my team is Swampert, Skarmory, Cradily, Swellow, Vulpix(Ninetales), and Absol. Any ideas for the Battle Frontier?

I highly suggest getting a Houndoom with Substitute, Reversal, Flamethrower and Crunch EVed to Speed. And a Blaziken with Agility, Sky Uppercut, Fire Blast and ThunderPunch EVed to Attack.

There you get a Sweeper and a Reversal.

Ditch Ninetales, Absol, and Swellow in favor of Starmie, Breloom, and Metagross.

Also, on the original topic, I have a way to beat the main game with minimal training and no trading.

Preparation for Roxanne:

No matter which starter is chosen, I always get a Shroomish, Lotad, and Wingull. (Also, Seedot with Bullet Seed instead of Lotad if I'm playing Ruby.)

Level: 7-8

Preparation for Brawly:

This is the one of two spots in the game where I willingly train. His levels will be insane compared to mine at first, so I first deliver the letter to Steven, then clean out Team Aqua at Slateport Museum. I always get a Sableye unless it's Ruby. Sometimes, but not always, I will have a Dustox/Beautifly/Ralts.

Level: 12-13

Preparation for Wattson:

None really, I just save Shroomish for Magneton and revive it for Manectric if I'm playing Emerald. I will seed both of them, then kill them with Sableye's Night Shade, or, if I chose Mudkip, Marshtomp's Mud Shot.

Level: 16-17

Preparation for Flannery:

This is the hardest Gym Leader battle. My tactic is just survive everything before Torkoal, then wear down Torkoal's Overheat PP's until it has just Body Slam, Flail, and Attract. It's for this reason that the Sableye I catch is always female.

Level: 20-21

More to come later.

You don't need to ditch any Pokemon at all.

Why are you treating this like Competive Battling because ingame you can use a Magikarp or something and still beat the game. Ninetales, Absol and Swellow are decent Pokemon anyway. That and Swellow can use fly which would help.

Okees. I'm on the e4, facing Wallace and his stupid retarded water types.

I knew I should have kept training Breloom.

Anyways, thanks everyone!
