Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Re: Aerodacyl's back sprites

Yeah but the R/B one is hardly recongnisable.

Re: Aerodacyl's back sprites

Yeah, that's usually how it is with R/B/Y back sprites. If I remember right, Hitmonlee's looked a lot like a toaster... but with no slots for toast.

Whatever is going on here though?

It always freaked me out. I know it's its tail. But it's still creepy.

Re: Aerodacyl's back sprites

Wait, the back sprite actually got bigger from G/S/C to FR/LG? I was under the impression that the the FR/LG back sprites were simply revamped from the G/S/C ones D:

Re: Aerodacyl's back sprites

They were the R/S/E back sprites, my dear Leafpool.

Looky! Charmander has spines, and Charmeleon a horn! I liked the spine idea, but I wonder why they didn't keep. I read on Bulbapedia that Pokemon Special had them, which is a reason why I want to read the series.

Wait, the back sprite actually got bigger from G/S/C to FR/LG? I was under the impression that the the FR/LG back sprites were simply revamped from the G/S/C ones D:

The R/S/E back sprites (the FR/LG ones, contrary to popular belief, are not the same as the R/S/E ones, but since everybody thinks they are, nobody has bothered to rip them) are indeed revamps of the back sprites from G/S/C, but since the sprite frame in G/S/C was 56x56 pixels while the frame in R/S/E was 64x64, they could fit slightly more of the body into the sprite. You could cut out a portion of the R/S/E back sprite, and that would be a plain revamp of the G/S/C one.

That said, I really don't think this "finding" is particularly remarkable; as Leafpool pointed out, the R/S/E back sprite is bound to be the same as the G/S/C one, and you see so little of Aerodactyl in all of the back sprites that there really isn't much room for other poses - after all, it will be turning its head to the right, and you don't really see much besides the head. The wings are pointed downwards because if they pointed upwards they would get in the way of the head. How else would you draw an Aerodactyl back sprite? And well, okay, they could have the mouth closed, but Aerodactyl is always shown with its mouth open - it's a kind of a part of its character, showing it like it's roaring and being aggressive, so they reserve closing the mouth for animation frames.

I think it's supposed to be Porygon...?

Wow, every time it gets bigger it looks more like it wants to eat me. I suppose that's the point though.

Eh, I just remember vaguely noting that the Butterfree back sprite in my FR was in the same pose as the G/S/C one, despite the fact that the back sprite doesn't actually match the FR front sprite (whereas the back sprite resembled Butterfree's Gold front sprite). :/

...but Butterfree's FR/LG backsprite is not in the same pose as the G/S/C one. o_O The R/S backsprite is, but the FR/LG one is different. Well, it's mostly the wings and antennae, but still.
