Closed Awakening

Perched atop the blue roof of the nearby Poke Mart, Roddy twitched his metronome-like tail impatiently to the rhythm of his heartbeat. Taking occasional sips from a Soda Pop he'd acquired earlier. Rooftops seemed to be a popular spot these days, he couldn't help but notice. Which proved that he was not the only one of the gathering crowd with stalker-like tendencies.

As fascinating as it was to catch a glimpse of what scarce company could be found in naptime, Roddy could not help but grow bored of their idle chatter. Using his powers, he'd been eavesdropping on every conversation within the city's reach for a good half an hour. No sound safe from his power over noise. And while he'd learned some very intruiging details about some of their personalities, they were currently engaged in mundane socialization. It was time to get this de facto "meeting" of theirs to the point. He hadn't answered the call just so he could sit around and chatter with an assortment of schizophrenics and angst-ridden teenagers - he wanted to know what this great and marvellous secret the one called Aureus had discovered. The knowledge that made him so arrogant as to assume that he could lead them to freedom.

Hopping down off the roof of the Poke Mart, Roddy started to walk towards the group. As he did so, he found himself walking side-by-side with another newcomer. Unlike the rest of them, who were mostly too young or too old, she was slightly closer to his own age. Which meant that he at least somewhat recognised her from his memories of before the merge.

"Salutations, normal person."

He said somewhat pensively, pondering the private conversations she'd had with herself that he'd so carelessly overheard. In a faint, almost nostalgic way, he did feel a little guilty taking advantage of information people thought confidential. But that was overwritten by the warm feeling of satisfaction that rose in his chest from watching their entertaining reactions. As he and... what was her name? Yes, Karae, approached the fringes of the group that had started to form near the gym, Roddy placed the bottle of Soda to his lips and took a long drink while he manipulated the airwaves like a ventriloquist.

"Anyway, that's enough mindless rabble. Let me tell you the reason why I called all of you here in the middle of the night when you might all have better things to be doing. Forgive me for being so selfishly inconsiderate."

Came the sound of Aureus' voice, or rather, a perfect mimic of it. Having been listening to his prattle for long enough now, it was a simple feat for Roddy to vibrate the air into producing a perfect impersonation of the Ninetails boy's voice. Draining the bottle down to the last drops, Roddy tossed it aside, glancing over at the Dragonair maiden and smirking at her. The look in his eyes hidden behind the pair of flight goggles he wore.

"Apology accepted. But do be quick about it, this place isn't the only boring thing around here, as you put it."

He said out loud, in his own voice, amplified to be louder than any of the other speakers. Stepping forwards, not at all shy of strangers, he looked around at the assembled group with contempt. Folding his arms and tapping his foot in time with his tail's metronome movements. Impatiently waiting for someone to say something worth listening to.

Karae hadn't decided to show that she was here and listening yet because, well, they hadn't seemed to be intent on the goal that the boy - what had been his name again? - declared. He didn't seem to want to escape half as much as he wanted to tease people and try to unnerve them. The approach of someone strange - he didn't seem to have any of the traits she or the rest showed, bits and pieces of Pokemon - made her turn her head, but someone had decided to walk near her, and she studied him for a moment in an attempt to figure out who he was. She knew him - of course she did, she remembered seeing him, but... no name came up.

Oh well. That tended to happen. Glancing between the two that had caught heri nterest, she let her tail uncoil from around her, curving it around in the air as a way to amuse herself while the prattle continued. Suddenly, though, the person beside her spoke up in response to the Ninetales boy, who had a sudden change of heart and was ready to begin.

"You said you wanted to escape, didn't you? And that you had a way to do it. What?"

We will never leave here...

((Failpost, rushing. ><))

Elijah sprinted through the forest, darting around a sudowoodo that had inadvertently blocked the path. Gasping, he soon saw Ecruteak in the distance and he slowed to a walk to catch his breath. He would soon be there.

Well, I'm mildly impressed, you DIDN'T get us lost. For very long. Tempest remarked, a smile in his voice.

Ah, be quiet. It was only a five-minute break. I wasn't lost. Elijah thought back.

Tempest laughed softly as Elijah walked into Ecruteak. He stopped, seeing a group of morphs off in the distance.

Well, well, well. So the others came as well. We might have a chance at this escape, then. He thought, feeling an ever so slight sensation of relief.

Yes...but are they up to whatever challenges we may face?

Well, I suppose we'll see. He walked over to the fringe of the group and leaned with his back against the cold bricks of a building, watching and waiting. Maybe someone would notice him, maybe they wouldn't. Didn't really matter as long as they got out of here.

"This group is..."

"Dysfunctional? Incoherent? Filled with imbeciles?"

"There you go."

Indeed, it certainly seemed that Reginald's description of the group was best fitting. Since he had dropped down from the building (as it seemed that everyone was doing,) the only development that had been made was... one of them saying that they would announce what they planned to do now that everyone had gathered... except that whoever had said that was now not saying anything more. Curious.

"Gary, I do think we've made a mistake in coming here. Do you think it's too late to turn back?"

"Yes, Reggie, and even if it weren't, I wouldn't want you to leave. I want to see how all of this play out."

All this time, the Bronzong's words had been coming from Reginald's mouth; only now, he was among a company that might actually notice that Reginald had two voices coming out of his mouth.

Leon darted through shadows, making his way through the thicket of trees. He passed a small wooden sign that said "RT.37. ECRUTEAK UP AHEAD".

Looking at the lights of the city ahead, he stopped for a second. He had been called to the gym, as had all the others who had tried to escape.

"I hope Liza made it there OK.", he thought to himself.

<You seem to have been worrying about her a lot...> the gallade spirit telepathed to him.

"Well, of course. I worry about everyone who tried to escape; some of them might have been killed."

<Yes, but why her in particular?>

"Well, um... never mind that. We're nearly there."

Leon slowly walked into Ecruteak and towards the Gym, careful not to be seen.

"Anyway, that's enough mindless rabble. Let me tell you the reason why I called all of you here in the middle of the night when you might all have better things to be doing.
Forgive me for being so selfishly inconsiderate."

Aureus blinked. He didn't say that, right? That wouldn't be possible.

"...the hell? I never said that," he said rather loudly.

He glanced around, finally settling his eyes on the Chatot Guardian.

"You. Listen to me..." he hissed in Roddy's direction.

"That was freakin' brilliant. Nice job." He smirked slightly.

"Oh, yeah; by the way, I'm Aureus," he said with a normal voice.

Liza had heard the voice of Aureus. And turned her attention away from the Glaceon morph. As she turned she caught sight of someone who looked...normal. He had no obvious apperance of any Pokemon and this interested her. She walked up to him and saw him talking to himself. 'Hm? Strange...' she thought. Out of the corner of her eye she thought she saw something moving at the front of Ecrutek.
'Maybe, it's that Leon you always think about...' she heard a familiar voice in her head. 'Well, its been a while...Serenity.' she thought to her Umbreon. She heard snickering and then nothing. 'Maybe it is Leon though...' she thought, knowing Serenity heard her.

Walking into the Gym, Leon's spirits immediately lifted when he saw that Liza had made it, along with is friend Ayden. As he walked in, he heard somebody speak.

"Anyway, that's enough mindless rabble. Let me tell you the reason why I called all of you here in the middle of the night when you might all have better things to be doing.
Forgive me for being so selfishly inconsiderate."

<Well, this must be the person who called us here. I wonder what he has to say.>

"As do I", Leon thought to Blade, his Gallade spirit.

<You must be happy, your girlfriend made it here okay.>, Blade said, snickering.

"Wh... be quiet for a second, will you?!"

<What ever you say...> Blade said, laughing.

annoyed and feeling slightly embarassed, Leon sat and listened to the person speak.

Liza smiled in reaction to Leon walking in. 'Well, I guess you won't have to worry about him not coming...' Serenity said. 'You had better listen Aureus now then.' Liza turned to Aureus and waited for him to speak.

"Well...if you called us here, get on with it." Amaterasu said, "There are lots of better things I could be doing with my time."

She yawned.

"Like sleeping." she muttered.

If you looked at her closely, you would have seen her biting the inside of her mouth after saying that.

Jack yawned yet again. He found this whole thing rather boring and a waste of time, but hey, it was better than nothing. The sound thing was a pretty cool trick, but it still wasn't enough to keep him amused.

"Can we just get on with this?" He yelled aloud. His palm leaves spinning behind him. He then took an apple out of his bag and started to munch on it, as if he had never called out. His spirit called out in glee, well he would have called out anyways.

From the moment he spoke, Roddy knew that the Ninetails was the one he had been imitating. While he'd spied on all of them from a distance, regrettably he hadn't faces to match the voices filling his head from all directions. The one who had called them all here, Arueus, surprisingly enough seemed to take delight in his talent for mimicry. Something that made the Guardian of Sound raise an eyebrow in intrigue and counter his smirk with a wry smile.

"Arueus? So, you have a sense of humour as well as a knack for small talk."

He retorted, unfolding his arms and placing hands on hips, looking down the bridge of his nose at the Guardian who seemed to be running for the title of leader of their little group, his head twitching in the manner of a bird eyeing down a juicy worm. At present, his attention was focused on him as a source of potential authority, something he did not take kindly towards unless it came from himself. Therefore, he saw the Ninetails as his main "challenger" in that field. Hence his determination to expose his motives - so that he might no longer hold any leverage over the motley group that was beginning to gather.

"Call me Roddy. Any other name, and I'll simply mute your voice."

Pausing to allow the Glaceon, the Tropius and the Dragonair to speak, all three having responded well to his ventriloquist speech about getting down to business, he nodded his head approvingly. Now backed up by the fact that he was not alone in his desire for the truth - indeed - it was the desire for it that had brought most them here in the first place. The answer to the question that occasionally tormented him on sleepless nights.

Was it really possible to escape naptime?

"So how about it then? Can we get started, or are you optimistic about more sheep joining our little flock?"

"Well, I do believe we can get started, Roddy."

He pulled a sheet of browned printer paper out of his pocket and laid it atop his outstretched hand. The paper had, clearly labeled on it, six locations in Naptime.

The Bell Tower, Whirl Islands, Lake of Rage, Mt. Silver, Union Cave, and the Sinjoh Ruins.

"The Bell Tower's closest, so we'll start there."

He refolded the paper, passed straight through the gym, and came out the other side.

"Come on already; I've no time to waste." He gestured for the group to come over.

"The Bell Tower huh?" she said as she thought of the large tower. She started to leave then decided to wait for Leon instead. 'Ah, of course, you have to wait for Leon.' Serenity said snickering. 'Uh, wait, you see...'
'Ha, don't worry, I can understand.' she said still snickering. Liza sighed and waited for Leon.

Reginald did not move when the Ninetales Guardian pulled out the map. Nor did he move when the guardian started to move.

"Reggie, I know what you're planning to do, and I can tell you now that it's a bad idea. Don't-

"Excuse me? When did we decide at any point in time that you were the single leader of the group?" Reginald said calmly, "you've given this group as a whole little to no information as to what significance these locations have in your alleged goal of getting us out of Naptime - a goal that, might I add, isn't theoretically possible by any means. I would know; I've been trapped in this prison for over a decade."

Inside Reginald's head, Gary sighed. Reggie was clearly trying to antagonize this Guardian, but to what end?

In fairness, he has been wandering around Naptime for over one decade... and then there's the strain on his mind.

He is going to hate me if I don't tell him about that soon. But how?

"Sorry, but I have to go with seemingly normal guy on this one." Jack replied. This naptime thing wasn't so bad... He didn't have to do anything.

Umm, Jack. Do you think this is a good idea? I mean, that guy looks kinda creepy... Jack sighed. He loved Nikin to death but he did get annoying at times.
"Relax, I know what I'm doing.." He thought to his spirit.

Elijah yawned; he was beginning to get bored listening to all of this chatter. He stretched and sat down, leaning with his back against the wall of the gym, hat tipped over his eyes, and began to sleep. He was sure if anyone needed him, they'd wake him up.

His words finally prompting the Ninetails into action, Roddy stepped forwards so that he could get a better look at the object Aureus had pulled out of his pocket like an old rag. Squinting down at it and identifying the piece of stained brown paper as a simple map. Examining the six locations, he frustratedly tried to understand the connection between them, with an infuriating lack of success. The fiery fourteen-year-old's cryptic commands leaving him with little time to react before he suddenly up and walked through the walls of the gym spontaneously. Which startled the Chatot into outright anger.

"And neither have we!"

He stormed out loud in response to the claim that the Guardian of Intangibility had "no time to waste" despite his seemingly lax attitude towards senseless chatter. Clearly he was not the only one who thought so, for a moment later an individual with very plain human features spoke out in a voice Roddy recognised as one that had been concerned about others being suspicious of his motives, backed up by the Tropius with an addiction to fruit.

While indeed he did think it strange that there should be an almost entirely human-looking Guardian running around, apparently unnoticed for centuries, right now their indignation stemmed from the same origins. And his testimony of having existed in naptime for centuries without having stumbled across the information supposedly shown on the Ninetails' magic map added greater weight to their argument. Manuevering to stand next to the one called Reginald in a show of support, Roddy reached into his own pocket and pulled out a microphone. Pointing it in Aureus' direction accusingly.

"Enough cryptic nonsense. Before I lift even a finger to help you, I want to know what makes you so damn sure that you can do the impossible. How can you expect us to commit to following you around a region when we don't know all the facts for ourselves? Are you trying to blackmail us with false hope?"

Twirling his microphone around his middle finger in a show of dexterity, the master sound blaster coughed into the speaker experimentally, his voice creating a miniature BOOM sound somewhere nearby which made his eardrums vibrate somewhat painfully for a second. Most likely for the rest of the group as well. Briefly, the Chatot wondered if the Ninetails could still hear and see when he was intangible. Because as long as he had hearing, not even intangibility would save him if he really was trying to trick them.

"Exactly what is your source, mister walk-through-walls? And tell it to us straight. If your voice has a suspicious note to it, I'll start to squawk, until it makes you talk!"

"I've been trapped in this prison for over a decade."

Karae blinked, turning her head to stare at the apparently normal person who had said it. "Really? Then if you don't know about any ways out... I'd trust someone with experience over a map I barely got to see," she announced, wincing at the sudden sound from the microphone. To her eyes, this 'plan' was nothing more than wishful thinking, especially since Aureus had taken the map out for the entirety of a few seconds, and since she hadn't drifted closer to join the loose group arrayed around him - or where he had been - she had only seen an aged paper with marks on it, and nothing more.

The microphone boy's statement made her smile, though, and the prickling and pressure on her throat eased, though she knew that nothing was there. Her partner wasn't threatening her in real life, which sometimes confused her - real life right now was Naptime, but Naptime wasn't real, which was odd and twisty to think about. The curtain in her head split them off so neatly, for the most part, but the world was split and not symmetrical, one side with her partner nearby, the other with a Dragonair-shaped void in it. Maybe escaping Naptime would fuse the two together again. She missed having a Pokemon with her, really.

"The Bell Tower is high up, isn't it?" she asked. "But it looks so... cramped. It would be fun to fly around," she mused. "Did you get the map from there? Or did someone give it to you?" Her wings fluttered with unease, and she forced them to be still again. The thought of being inside a building that looked so small made her stomach churn, but no one seemed to be trusting Aureus, so it didn't really matter.
