Blank Canvas Mafia Game Thread

I guess to rephrase the question: I don't actually feel that I've been asking super probing questions yet, so I'm wondering, in what ways did you think that applied to my posting (from before you posted your wall)?

Interesting, I would have to do the reread to tell you exactly what I was looking at but I at least definitely felt that you were probing around in that way (to the extent that it's even possible to be probing in the early stages of D1, anyway; asking people their thoughts on what was going on and other people's thoughts on those thoughts and to explain their reactions, etc.) and felt good about it?

Also sorry I got pulled away for a VC with a friend while rereading and now I pretty much need to be getting to bed, but I will be back at soooome point tomorrow, there's a work trip and I'm not totally sure how long it's going to be. Ugh it's going to be getting a lot closer to EoD by the time I'm back, isn't it. I will try to do a bit of reading and pop in during the day in the hope I can put in a vaguely informed vote not outrageously late.

wrt Eifie I've said so earlier; I believe Keldeo's assessment that w!Eifie would've checked tf out. wrt Dodge, I think he sounds a good bit more relaxed than when he's mafia. wrt Ever, I don't have a problem with any of ver presumed reasons for going after me

Null: Butterfree, Keldeo, mewtini
all three have been active and engaged, but all three are the sort who play that way for, literally, the love of the game, and don't really do it differently as mafia. I might have more to base at least a gut feeling on once they've made their actual moves for the day

both are kind of only speaking when spoken to. Mawile has mostly only reacted to things directly pertinent to having a vote on himself, and missingno?'s been sort of going at it with the unprompted "I'm town btw" jokes. nothing that I'd super-confidently call scummy (as if I'm confident about my reads ever-), but it is what I've found scummiest so far in the thread, so it's where I'd be inclined to park a vote if I don't see anything else that smells worse. that said, I'm not voting Mawile yet -- we're a ways from that still but I do not want to provoke the hammer -- and I'm probably not voting missingno? toDay -- because you just gotta let the new ones play for a lil while, eh? and they've been a delight to play with so far, too

when was the last time we played together, again? I feel like it's long enough back that I wouldn't have you seen you play quite so many times, and also long enough back that I was a little less refined at doing reads and stuff the way we typically do now

Hmm, I had been assuming that mafia are unlikely to have extra KP (= kill power, potential kill actions at night) because (1) the game is really small in comparison to a 50-100 player Mafia Universe shindig and (2) MYLO is specified in the OP to be when mafia = # town - 2. A theoretical 5-2 or 4-1 game would be MYLO if the mafia could kill twice at night. Does that reasoning seem unsound, like because MYLO isn't announced, correctly defining MYLO doesn't matter?

Similarly, I think it's unlikely that the mafia have daykill powers, because it would be weird if the game could become CYLO and have votes become locked in the middle of the day, when people might have already voted. inb4 I have said all this and get exploded at a critical point.

I guess the most important bit in my opinion is, I don't think possible anticlaim should deter people from claiming if they're on the chopping block. And it's also important to try to conceal whether or not you are vanilla/have a role/have a night action - as much as I'd like this to be a game where we all have roles like in early 2010s TCoDfia, I doubt it, as it's quite common to have vanillas in small games on Mafia Universe. (This is all probably stating the obvious, sorry.)

I'm not sure anti-claim is factored in as a kill power because it's more of a balance measure, but yes, I did say this game is much smaller. I wouldn't consider it at all but for the rule that specifically says you can claim but at for own risk. (of course, there are multiple things that could mean)

I don't actually want to put pressure on MF anymore lol... but also to be clear, the secret reason is why it would make sense for Ever to vote MF, but I'm not in full agreement. as I said before, the night action thing felt performative, and I feel like MF is absolutely the type to go around posting random bullshit like that for the hell of it. the secret reason is only a reason that makes sense to vote if the night action thing is taken at face value. does that make sense?

I am very disappointed in this Mawile thing going nowhere but I kind of think maybe it just won't get anywhere until we're closer to crunch time...

Jokes aside!!! Opinions will develop the more I play, but watching the analysis and explanations going on has been pretty fun! Random Among Us accusation route would be to kneejerk-accuse the people accusing me (Hi MF! Hi Eifie! Hope whichever timezone ya'll are in is treating ya'll well!). It's been pretty interesting seeing what people make of my general demeanor and japes, especially since it's either made me really sus, or more towny. Going 'heeheehee look at me I'm soooooo innocent' is a fun 50/50 coin to flip, I think. And has been a smidge enlightening about what people prioritize as suspicious or not judging by how people have reacted to it? At the very least in terms of getting to know people's playstyles. Which is not to say that it was intentional*, but a fun side effect I think!

I'm having a hard time reading other people (due to not knowing ya'll very well - I did read some archived games before but that doesn't mean the names and who did what stuck with me whooops) so mostly I'm still feeling everything and everyone out.

eh not really, i mentioned being kind of ambivalent. i was also surprised that, being a new player, they didn't react more intensely to the vote, but they also talked about having played at least a little before and that they'd read through a not-inconsequential number of games (also that they were coming from amogus) and that kinda evened it out for me

i have kind of a nagging feeling that they were too chill about the vote and that they seem easygoing in the way that a wolf w/tmi might be? but i'm saying that as someone who is also not exactly acting with much urgency so idk. relatedly, i will say that i am consciously trying to be less intense this game -- i took a long break from playing mafia because i was getting legitimately negatively emotionally impacted by it

i will be traveling pretty much all day tomorrow which kind of fucking sucks so i'd like to figure out a vote sometime tonight? ish? so maybe i will (shudder) iso

I'll have to do another read through the thread in the morning so as to have more informed thoughts in general, but it's been so long since I've played a long form game like this that I have little confidence in my reads atm lmaoo. Everyone's killing it though, I love seeing the back-and-forth tit-for-tat outta youse all!

i giggled

fwiw my vote kind of also lies between mawile/missingno but i am kind of like ;___; i want more time to play with them. i am irked that mawile's engagement has been basically 100% limited to focusing on the health of their slot. and i share concerns w/mf and eif about missingno trying to Project Innocent & Newbie Town. i also think that if i take my "well, missingno has some level of exposure/experience" thought to its end, i would also have hoped that they'd have some sort of reads by this point

i don't really want to axe mawile because i legit think that their play so far could be NAI, i feel like they always take a while to lock in and usually don't settle in until later on. so secretly i hope i can vote outside of these two
