blazheirio889 & Fish and Ships vs. RandomTyphoon & Kam

Folks, we have an issue.

See, since Torment used by Dexter had no specified target, I let random.org decide that. The RNG's will is that Pancake be the target.

Pancake being Tormented, she will fail to use Fury Cutter in actions one and three, using Struggle instead, while suceeding on action two.

The Fury Cutter on action two is what bothers me.

See, all of us except maybe Green probably remember about when now tag partners were battling each other and there was a bit of a discussion on whether Stinky Joe's Fury Cutter streak should disappear due to the fact he didn't use it constantly. By then, I had been forgetful at one point, and thus, for consistency's sake, I let it be that the streak would only disappear should Fury Cutter miss.

So, now, the issue has come up again, sooner than I expected it to. I don't have any consistency to abide to this time, so, for the sake of not letting any of down, I'll let you decide whether Fury Cutter this round should strike at base power or with a still rising strenght.

Let's make this a poll of sorts. In case we have a tie, random.org will do the deciding again. If any of you would rather stay neutral, that too is fine.

:V I told Green to edit his command string... Ugh, I guess I was too late? Or can we still change our commands?
Green listen to what I say arghhh or at least learn what Torment does

In any case, of course, I'm biased, so I think the Fury Cutter streak should stay. While it does seem rather broken, that's how the game mechanics work, and if Negrek deems it too broken for ASB play, I'm sure she'll nerf it.

If Negrek says it, then, that'll be it.

Arena: Someplace Boring
Yes, it’s someplace boring. So boring, in fact, that whoever discovered it couldn’t be arsed to think of a name for it. So why are a whooping four trainers congregating here to have a battle? Because we can’t be zipping around with Adrenapacks or swiping Pokemon from another trainer’s party or getting drunk at bars in Manhattan every day. There’s only so much excitement and exhilaration a citizen of Asber can contain before they implode.

Anyway, moving on with the actual description. Someplace Boring is a large, grassy field dotted with trees and small lakes. The trees are generally rather large, with thick, spreading branches crowned with thickets of leaves. While sturdy, the trees obviously have a limit, and branches can be snapped off with powerful attacks or simply sheer weight. The lakes, though small, are large enough to accommodate the average water Pokemon, and can supply water for moves such as Surf.

The ground is easy on the feet: lush, soft, and springy. It’s easily torn, though, so Pokemon will have no trouble using Dig and the like. Additionally, there is enough sand and small debris to go around, enabling the use of Sand Attack, Sand Tomb, etc.
Arena status: A boring hailstorm is pouring down the boring battlefield. Visible to a select boring few, the boring spell bind remains on the arena.

-----

All in the arena still felt the annoying sensation brought by the hailstorm and the chilly gales that flew by them in the most boring way they could muster. The cold temperature was tough to just get used to, and only grew more hard to bear with time. Nonetheless, the trainers did what they could, still issuing commands while becoming amused at the fact their breath gained white hues due to the amount of water vapor that changed states because of the freezing winds.

Pancake had it worse -- after all, landing on the pond made her fur and bones all wet, which greatly increased the effect of the glacial feeling. Struggling to remain sane and focused on the fight, she made an angry rush for her dark-typed opponent, only to be interrupted halfway through by a lecture on how these wimpy little scratches would never lead her to victory. She tried arguing that there was a large gash across his chest, but he called it begginer's luck.

The verbal assault led to one singular point: Fury Cutter was a terrible move that the Skelitten had no business using constantly. At the verge of bursting into tears (which would be nigh impossible anyway due to an at least apparent lack of a water canal near her hollow eye sockets), she asked herself why her trainer, who she trusted so much, had her doing something that the experienced battlers could turn into ridicule so efforlessly.

Eledancia glared at the Cacturne, questioning how could he dare to mistreat her partner like that; meanwhile, said partner needed something to vent her frustration immediately, and randomly decided to start slapping Frosty on the face, which made the green glow on her paws fade away. He, of course, reacted; first with a weak punch to open some distance, then with an ethereal ball of Ghost-type energy that sent the undead feline flying again, left to thank the random number gods for not landing into water again.

The Ralts could no longer just watch Pancake get tortured back and forth all fight long. She gathered all the Bug-type power she could to unleash it as two sinister beams of light; one red, one blue. The surprise strike let out its irritiating drone while knocking the unsuspecting target down to the ground.

Seeing Dexter take the fall made the Skelitten feel slightly better. She began moving towards him to perform a Fury Cutter, but was counterstruck quickly by a punch imbued in Dark-type energy. She flinched for a while, but landed the swipe anyway. It was guarded against succesfully; thus, more jeering and taunting ensued.

blazheirio889's Pokémon ran toward her teammate, intending to cheer her up... But, the Cacturne stepped aside as if expecting something. And something came. An icy blast much colder than the freezing winds that were already coursing around the unexciting battlefield. It struck both of the attacker's opponents succesfully, lowering the performance of their metabolisms and thus rendering them even more slow-moving.

Eledancia was starting to get angered by the Snover as well; it was his fault that those life-force leeching tendrils were rooted in her skin, after all. Letting her blood and whatever little heat the atmosphere may have had superheat her right fist, she whiplashed her foe's love toward cold temperatures with a blazing punch.

Just then, however, a blur passed inches away from the side of her head. It was her partner, now glowing with a red aura and barely able to stand up. The almost defeated Pokémon struggled to give Forsty even a light headbutt, but that was countered with yet another light punch.

The winter tree was more concerned about recovering from that stupidly hot attack earlier, though. He desperately spread his roots underground, hoping that it would heal the pain off. He seemed completely unaware of the mobility loss that would stem from this.

To further his blissful ignorance toward how well the move really went, he suddenly heard clapping and swooning from the humanshaped creature that earlier delivered the Fire Punch. She demanded, with tenacious insistance, that he do it again. Though his ally urged him not fall for such a paperthin trick, he was more than willing to do keep showing off and impressing the ladies.

Additional notes:
- Random.org said Pancake is Torment's unspecified target, and due to Torment, Fury Cutter was rendered unusable in actions one and three, forcing Pancake to Struggle instead. Of course, I've already said that, but...
- The RNG has as also chosen that Encore will force Frosty to repeat Ingrain two times.
- Pancake hit the damage cap at the third action. By the way, if it wasn't for the cap, the damage total would have been 56%, what with the grand total of eight different damage sources. One word: ouch.
- Boring Team With Names That End With Different Sounds (i.e. blazheirio889 and OKUTANK) attacks first next round.

Rrgh. Fine. If Green won't post, I guess I'll have to.

On the first action, if Dexter tries to hit Pancake with a combo of sorts, jump in the way and use Protect. If you don't think you can reach your partner in time, Shadow Sneak + Protect instead. We need to make sure Pancake survives.

If Dexter decides to use a regular attack or doesn't attack at all, use Signal Beam. Follow with Body Slam and end with another Signal Beam. Direct them all at Dexter.

On actions two and three, Snatch any Substitutes or healing moves (unless it's Rest). Calm Mind if Dexter Detects.

Protect/Shadow Sneak + Protect/Signal Beam @Dexter ~ Body Slam @Dexter/Snatch/Calm Mind ~ Signal Beam @Dexter/Snatch/Calm Mind

So many loopholes to abuse! Should we start with the fact that Faint Attack isn't a "combo", or that the commands don't say anything about Protect, or or or...

Either way, though, I can't do much while Frosty's been encored, so...

Just go along with the Encore for the first two actions (although you should Chill if for some magic reason the Encore becomes undone). After that, fire off an Ice Beam at the stupid Ralts.

-----

As commands were issued on either side, the seeds of discontent kept on growing larger. The parasite plant's tendrils were, at this point, covering much wider an area than before, now spread out along most of the heads of both victims.

The downed Pancake struggled to stand up, when suddenly, a helping hand appeared in front of him. Or, rather, a helping handless arm, a green one; the one belonging to Dexter.

As soon as the Skelitten stood up, however, his suddenly charitable enemy was no longer within sight. He had hidden himself in a tree's shadow, and was prowling behind his prey until the time was right to last out with a cheap shot right between the neck and the head. The severe whiplash caused extreme damage, enough to nearly break the bone in the affected area off; even if he undead kitten hadn't lost consciousness by then, Metallica Fanboy would probably still have advised Green to push the badly wounded Pokémon no longer.

Eledancia was, of course, beyond consolation. She had developed a sentiment of partnership with her teammate quickly; to see her through so much suffering was enough to keep the Ralts very much willing to press ownards, alone or not. Completely ignoring Frosty's further attempts to impress her, she blasted one more droning blast of colored lights at the scum responsible for the fate that befell upon her tag.

Of course, the scarecrow wouldn't leave that be without a counterstrike. He knew not what was that foolish opponent thinking; it's just natural that someone lose in battle. Allowing the spite generated from this to fuel his Dark-type energies, he landed a solid punch on the tiny humanshaped enemy.

She cleared some distance away afterwards, which had RandomTyphoon's Pokémon believe that she was cowering. He seized the chance to walk up to his partner and tell him to stop using this damn move nobody is paying attention to. This, however, was to become his doom, to some extent, as he never suspected that a leaping Ralts would come from behind and strike him on the neck, pinning him down and inflicting major pain all over his nerves.

Finally snapped out of the trickery he had been through, Frosty was angry that he was deceived, immediately blasting an Ice Beam at the unsuspecting enemy. He was aiming for the head, but narrowly missed the face, instead hitting the helmet-like structure. The attack snapped one of the Leech Seed's tendrils, but the remaining ones kept growing nonetheless.

As she stood up, Eledancia closed the round with one further angry Signal Beam aimed at Dexter, who laid limp on the soft grass, unable to fight through the bad state of his nervous system, able to do no more than try to deal with the hailstorm.

Additional notes:
- Nope, Kam, Faint Attack doesn't do 19+% damage in this case. STAB is weaker in ASB than you figured. In any case, it scored a critical hit, meaning that Pancake was defeated regardless.
- Maybe the description implied that, but no, Payback did not land with boosted power, nor did it crit.
- The RNG was still willing to make this round more twisted, though. Body Slam on the second action did land a critical hit, and caused paralysis as well to boot.
- Dexter was fully paralyzed on the third action. Not that it made much difference, but.

*raises hand* Um, I didn't do the calculations in detail, but two Signal Beams should've done 20% damage alone (7% base, -2% for anti-STAB and evolution modifier for a total of 5%, which is brougth to 10% after double weakness), and I doubt a critical Body Slam would only do 3% afterwards.

Ho noes :v (actually kam and i haven't talked stradegy, but ehhh not much of an excuse.)

But! uhh i totally need healths anyway. Go Rest, then Sleep Talk cause yeah. We've knocked out annoying Green Bot, and Blazhy's all mindrape-y anyways, so uh good enough! yus! (plus Frosty hasn't changed all that much on heaths, he's capable, non?)

Okay then.

Frosty, act as a bodyguard during action 1. Put simply, if Ralts attacks Dexter, you have to step in front of the attack and let him use you as a human shield. If you're attacked, on the other hand, Avalanche; fire off a Magical Leaf in all other scenarios.

After that, it's simple attacking; Ice Beam, then Water Pulse. Use Solarbeam on action 3 if it's sunny. Magic Coat any status effects it tries to throw at you back, but only on these two actions.

Act as bodyguard/Avalanche (Stupid Ralts)/Magical Leaf ~ Ice Beam/Magic Coat ~ Water Pulse/Solarbeam/Magic Coat

Alright. According to my calculations and some half-faded memories I have of MF's reffing system, he doesn't apply anti-STAB to normal-typed moves, so...!

Frosty's Ingrained, so he can hardly move to block your attacks, Eledancia. Double-Edge Dexter. It should be just enough to knock him out. If we're lucky, Frosty won't know how to respond to this situation, and we can earn ourself a free action!

If Double-Edge came short of KO'ing Dexter, then don't worry - Teleport away regardless. Into a tree, preferably some distance away, on a branch that's thick enough to support your weight. Since those Leech Seeds aren't exactly a part of you (I don't think so, anyway), see if you can't leave them behind while you whisk yourself away.

Finally, you'll be low on energy, so Chill.

-----

The referee explained to Fish and Ships that losers had to stick around until the end of the match because of the prizes, as the other member of the Boring Team With Names That End With Different Sounds issued commands with an almost desperate hope to get that damn cactusman out of her way.

Kam had a smug smile on his face as Metallica Fanboy gave the word for the round to begin. Eledancia's body gained a white glow, and Frosty stretched his arms out, bracing himself. Naturally the Ralts ran around the winter tree Pokémon. He made to give chase, but he was helplessly tied to the ground below his feet. Surely now he would really regret constantly using Ingrain, as he could do nothing but look behind him as much as he could by twisting his torso -- which he couldn't do that well, since tree trunks are not the flexiblest material ever.

However, behind his backs, a miracle was about to occour. Thanks to how blazheirio889's Pokémon had been slowed down earlier on the match, Dexter still could take to rest before his enemy could attack. His body glew light blue... But another miracle ensued, as the pain in his muscles allowed him no room to breathe. He just couldn't get his self-repair system to work. His paralysis was that bad.

He, too, could do little but watch as the small white Pokémon lunged for his wounded chest and pinned him down with a solid headbutt. Much as she was pleased to see the widened eyes and the expression of pain her opponent had taken on, however, Eledancia had a little bit of aftermath to deal with: a scarecrow Pokémon isn't exactly the best cushion, particularly not when it comes to landing your head against the ground.

Watching such a scene made the elusively grass and ice-type jerk himself back to an untwisted position. That stupid Ralts! Seething with anger, he let a icy blue ball form in his arms, then he flung himself back, somehow managing to strike the target's back as she stood up -- while his vision saw all upside-down.

The surprise attack had the humanshape Pokémon down a bit longer, but still, she realized she needed not stand up in order to clear away from there. Thankful that she narrowly averted being scraped by one of these ridiculosly sharp spikes, she vanished from sight to reappear upon a branch belonging to a boring old tree.

She sighed, however, to realize the Leech Seed had grown too much to be ditched by such a simple telekinectic technique. In fact, it still grew, now already reaching her back and chest.

Little did she know, though, she had teleported to a tree that was standing on its own, rather than surrounded by other trees. Plus, the branch really seemed to be about to break; normally it would stand her weight just fine, but it had to deal with the weight of the accumulated hail as well. Also, the tree was located someplace within Frosty's eyesight.

Speaking of Frosty, he was hardly satisfied yet. He gathered some ice in his mouth and used some body heat to melt it, then proceeding to spit it out along with a sonic wave. Eledancia hung on tight, and thus, the blast didn't send her flying away, even though it did apply a strong force backwards.

By then, however, the branch just about had it. It creaked dangerously, then snapped, taking the Ralts to the ground with it.

Additional notes:
- blazheirio889 was right; Ingrain severely limits mobility, and I'd take it that a Pokémon that used it some three times can't very well be getting out of where they're rooted in one action. Nonetheless, Frosty wasted an action trying, because Dexter was attacked. But, even furhter, a quarter-speed Cacturne outspeeds a 2- speed Ralts. Rest still failed anyway due to a quite lucky full paralysis. Thus, Dexter has been knocked out on the first action.
- On the other hand, Teleport failed to get the Leech Seed off, and Water Pulse landed regardless because so random.org wished.
- random.org also told that branch to snap. Eledancia didn't quite come out unscathed from that little stumble, too.
- blazheirio889 attacks first next round. hell yes I'm not the only single-person party in this battle anymore

Am I right in assuming that Ice Beam did not hit because Frosty could not aim behind himself?

Also I'm a bit confused as to why Eledancia didn't even attempt to Chill - sure, there was her problem with the branch, but I wouldn't expect the fall to take an entire action...?
