Brawl Tiers?

Thorne

It's feeding time
What are your opinion about Tiers? If you don't know what the Brawl tiers are like, look here.
I'm personally against tiers, there shouldn't be a system saying "This character is good, even if you can't win a easy match with it, and this character sucks, even if you won a tournament with it" Because that's pretty much what tiers say, it doesn't depend on the character, just the player, for example, I SUCK as Pit, but he's 15th tier, yet I can play fairly well as Mario, and he's low tier.

Am I the only one who thinks it's like that?

You're not the only one. Lots of people don't really like tiers.

I can't do anything with King Dedede and can win lots with Link and Samus.

It only really depends on who you're used to and have had most practice with.

May I direct you here?

Tiers don't decide the outcome of a match, they only tell what is likely. They don't tell you what characters to play as or what characters you are good with, they only show how characters stand against each other. Character A can beat Character B, but Characters C-I do exceptionally well against Character A and tend to lose to Character B, so Character B is inherently better. I hope you understand now.

Tiers and stuff take the fun out of games, for me. I like picking a cute character and beating the crap out of things with it. When this process gets reduced down to statistics, I just lose interest. Same thing with Pokemon and all the IV/EV stuff; I just like battling with the cute monsters; don't strip it of its childish wonderment ;;

Is that directed at me or Male Gardevoir?

If it is at me...
"understand"?
I never didn't understand. I knew perfectly well what they are. All I'm saying is that some people take them seriously enough to go with the higher tiers when although, yes, they're statistically better, but they should just enjoy the game as it is and play as the ones they like the most.

^Agreeing with this^

I don't exactly go for te cute characters, but the cute ones in lower tiers wouldn't be there if people didn't want to play as them.
As for IV/EV stuff, well I don't care about them either. I look at them as something else in the game that I could use if I have nothing else to do. Usually there's plenty to do in the games, so I don't bother with them.
I wouldn't exactly compare them with tiers though. Sure, they can both take the fun out of online play, but I think people take tiers way more seriously. (in an annoying way)

I agree completely that they take the fun out of the games. Games are about fun, not statistics or anything.

I hate tiers. Some people, like me, are great with Captain Falcon. Some people, like me, are horrible with Meta Knight. It depends on the player, not the character.

Oh, wow. Even someone who knows very little about the game (like me) knows that this is nonsense. Yes, those characters do have abilities that you can generally use better than some other characters, but in this game, it's more about preference and taking all things into consideration than one character necessarily being better than another in some sort of hierarchy.
I've heard a million people complaining about how useless R. O. B. is, and how they loath playing him, and a surprising amount of people who decide to play Peach and are quite good at doing something with her.

It's based on the player's ability and their experience more than anything. Maybe the majority are good at "High" tier characters and choose to devastate people with them frequently, maybe they really are, but that doesn't make the characters better. It's silly to designate some characters as "useless" and weak.

This is my stance. Even if tiers exist (and I personally don't take an opinion on that) it's beyond the scope of well, fun. At least for some of us. I dunno, some seem turned on by stats and such.

Whatever gets your goat, but tiers aren't for me.

Well Pikachu, Toon Link and Meta Knight are way to overused.

I don't really use tiers, not because I don't like them but my favourites aren't high as tiers.

I use Pit, Captain Falcon and Mario

It was directed at Male Gardevoir, and now Zim Del Invasor and Ayame. Seriously, you guys need to check it out. Or, at the very least, accept the existence of tiers. I whole-heartedly believe in the tiers, but you know what? I play as Pichu in Melee, despite being dead bottom of the tier list. I play characters that I like or that fit my style, not the high tier characters.

I just don't see why people keep on arguing about it rather than reaching a conclusion and getting on with our lives. :/

haha most of my mains are in the low tier P: i don't really care
i just get pissed off at how so many people use meta knight because he's top tier. getting your arse kicked by a meta knight player isn't that much fun either
however i do take pokemon battling somewhat competitively, i ev train but that's about it

Tiers actually make sense to me, they predict likely outcome of a battle and how characters match up, nothing more, if you think "ZOMG SNAKE IS TEH TOP TIER HE'LL ALWAYS WIN!!!!" then you're a twat. If you go against statistical logic that teirs bring, you're a twat.

Quote for the truth.

Seconded.
I think I'd be able to tolerate tiers more if my mains didn't keep getting thrown at the bottom. I say leave them to the competitive players- they're the only ones stupid enough to play based on them.

I never use tiers, but it just so happens that Meta Knight is at the top. I use him the most, along with Ike.

Same here (except about Ike), I didn't even know about the tiers when I first mained him. I don't play as him just because he's top tier. I like playing aggressively; he's one of the best characters to do so with.

Quite honestly I'm pretty indifferent about tiers. I don't use them but I don't mind them being there.

The tier lists are built around one metagame, that being the competitive one. There is an entirely different metagame for the casual players, so if a tier list was made for us, theoretically it would be different.

And therein lies the problem. Smash World Forums has made it pretty apparent that they're the final authority on Tier Lists. Any thread with "Casual" tier Lists- i.e. tier lists that their back room didn't make gets locked. It's true what you say though- I think everyone has their own personal tier list

The tier list exists so that competitive smash players can feel like they're playing a real fighting game.

They aren't for people who like playing smash.
