China is basically sheltering its own citizens, which I personally think is wrong. They are currently creating a special program that will block certain websites from inside the computer. And the one child law? It's made with good intentions, but it was horrible when the earthquake hit. During the earthquake's aftermath, many other countries offered help but they refused it. It makes you wonder what they're hiding there.

Does anyone else agree the government is hiding something from the rest of the world? It's all so weird what they're doing, refusing help when they needed it. And Tibet's citizens were particularly unhappy when the Olympics were in China. I'm not sure, but wasn't the Buddha banned from going there? Very suspicious.

I fail to see how the One Child Law is relevant to the Sichuan Earthquake in 2008. Were parents allowed to have more children, then one must imagine that more children would have lived in the part of China worst hit by the earthquake. Were more children there, then more would have died, and the tragedy would have been even greater.

And Tibet's citizens were particularly unhappy when the Olympics were in China.

I honestly don't believe that the people of Tibet were, as a whole, particularly upset that China had been selected to host the 2008 Olympic Games. If I recall, then they were mostly upset because they weren't being granted independence, and they'd been upset about that for some time- that is, since whenever Tibet was taken over by the Chinese last.

I'm not sure, but wasn't the Buddha banned from going there?

Wouldn't've been too hard to've stopped 'im. The Buddha's been dead for well over a thousand years. They might have banned the Dalai Lama from attending, though, but I'm not sure he woulda gone anyway if they woulda let 'im.
As for computer censorship, I believe that the Chinese government is instituting it not to protect its citizens, but to protect its governors. The internet allows one to see what happens in other parts of the world, and to tell other people what one thinks about what's happening where one is and in other parts of the world, and even to compare events abroad with domestic issues, if one should so desire. Most people, if asked, would probably say that China's government is doing many things wrong. Consider that in China, there are quite a few people, and the number of people in China with computer and internet access is... well, it'd probably be growing daily if it weren't for the current global recession, but at any rate, there's a lot of people online in China. If all Chinese were allowed to see what the rest of the world thought of the Chinese government, what other Chinese thought of the Chinese government, and discuss how to change things, then China's current government might lose support and lose power. By disallowing this free access to all parts of the internet, the Chinese government probably hopes to sustain its power for at least a while longer.

I don't get this: would it have been less awful had they had more than one child ? I mean in all likelyhood it would've died too and losing one kid when you've still got another is still depressing.
I think the one-child law is a pretty good idea in China because, well, look at the place! There's barely enough space to move! Of course I disagree strongly with killing female babies, but I think each couple being encouraged to have one child is okay.

Well that's because they were hoping to attract the world's attention on the fact that China's been oppressing them for years.
