Darksong vs. Mad MOAI

Abandoned Iron Quarry
This battle takes place in a deep quarry that was once mined, but all the people from the town nearby left due to a fire nearby. There is no mining equipment remaining, but evidence of digging can be seen, and if one looks closely, he or she could see that there is still a lot of ore in the walls of the quarry. This battle takes place at the deeper end of the quarry, where the walls extend at least thirty feet above one's head as he or she stands at the deepest part, and the largest amount iron ore is left in the quarry. The bottom of the quarry is somewhat sandy, and it's possible to dig a few feet down. There are many boulders scattered about in the quarry -- perfect for Rock-type attacks. But in addition, the iron ore in the walls can also be used as a substitute for rocks, making a move that uses rocks Steel-type instead.

ROUND 6 START!
Darksong:
Ooo
glameow
Rosie (♀)
Health: 48%
Energy: 34%
Ability: Limber
Status: "Heh."
+2 special attack
Commands: Work Up ~ Fake Out ~ Slash

Mad MOAI:
Ooo
ducklett
Tan-yu (♂)
Health: 39%
Energy: 32%
Ability: Big Pecks
Status: “Grr." -2 special defense, -2 special attack
Commands: Steel Wing ~ Aqua Ring (flinched) ~ Aerial Ace

Rosie is quite happy to be clearly in control again, and eager to show her opponent just what she can do- a little thunderbolt or two should do it. And with that, concentrated electricity begins forming between her paws, and then shoots forward in an arc at Tan-yu, doing nothing to help his demeanor and bringing back a pain he’d hoped to never experience again. In fact, he’s quite enraged now. Angry at the glameow’s zeal, his attacks’ ineffectiveness, his growing fatigue, and the general hopelessness of his predicament. And he’s going to unleash. Every. Last. Ounce. Of that hatred, if it’s the last thing he does. Talons first, he charges at Rosie and scratches her up and pecks at her in desperation.

The glameow yelps, taken aback by her foe’s sudden bravado. Asserting herself ought to be quite easy, however. Another arc of powerful sparks shoots out at Tan-yu, who has meanwhile grown slightly more temperate. Though the attack would have fueled his angry earlier, now he realizes just how close he is to failure. If only that stupid glameow hadn’t messed him up earlier- the least he can do is try to make up for it now. The ducklett expunges a curtain of water and wraps it around himself, the element invigorating him. How he wishes it had come sooner...

Rosie, meanwhile, is rather proud of herself- she’s electrocuted that bird to oblivion, and now she can just relax a little. The glameow rests her head on her paws and purrs in satisfaction. Tan-yu watches her grimly. He’s done for now, he’s sure of it, but he won’t go down without a fight. The bird zooms at his foe with blinding speed- there’s no status ailments to boost his power, but he manages to pull off a decent hit anyway, waking Rosie up from her nap.

ROUND 6 END!
Darksong:
Ooo
glameow
Rosie (♀)
Health: 33%

Tan-yu (♂)
Health: 10% (capped)
Energy: 20%
Ability: Big Pecks
Status: “...ah. Haha." -2 special defense, -2 special attack, surrounded by an Aqua Ring (+1 health each action)
Commands:Frustration ~ Aqua Ring ~ Facade

Ref notes:
  • I... can’t think of anything.
  • Squorn informed me that this reffing was unreadable when using the Roar of Time style (or on any sort of black background, for that matter). This is most likely due to me using Google Docs, which seems to specify color and font information rather than allowing what ever style you're using to decide that. Fix'd.
  • MOAI commands next

All right, let's get this finished up. First go for Brave Bird, but if your opponent tries to Protect use Roost instead. If for some reason you're still alive after that, use Brine. And... I doubt you'll make it that far, but if you do just Chill again. But if you've used up your healing move already from the first turn use Aerial Ace instead.

Brave Bird / Roost ~ Brine ~ Chill / Aerial Ace

All righty. Um... let's see. I think a last Thunderbolt should finish this ducky off, but if it doesn't then just use Shock Wave after that. If for some reason it still survives, you can use something that only takes a little amount of energy like Scratch. If your opponent faints on the first action and for some reason the round isn't over (though I believe it ends if one Pokemon faints), then you can use Hone Claws to boost your accuracy.

Thunderbolt ~ Shock Wave/Hone Claws ~ Scratch/Hone Claws

Rosie leers angrily at Tan-yu, not very happy at having her nap cut short. That dumb bird deserves another thunderbolt, she’s quite sure! She forms a strong spark of electricity and sends it flying at the ducklett. Tan-yu winces in shock, too tired for anything more, and collapses to the ground, wings twitching. A reddish aura washes over him as Moai withdraws him into his ball and considers her next choice.

  • Short round is short
  • Incidentally, the moment I started writing the scene where Tan-yu is knocked out, the Downtown theme from Twisted Metal: Black started playing on my iPod :|
  • Mad MOAI sends out

All righty, Rosie, I think we can do this before you go down. First, Chill and regain some of that energy; you'll need it. Then use Water Pulse, unless the Onix Protects or is underground or whatever, in which case use Double Team to create three clones instead. Finish off with another Water Pulse, or Hone Claws if you can't attack it (barring Substitute).

Pre-Round

Mad MOAI, having recalled her previous battler, considered her next choice. The wide array of moves Glameow had access to didn’t ease the choice, but one couldn’t be wrong when sending out a giant rock snake against a house cat. Thus, she grabbed her Heavy Ball and threw it in a baseball fashion and Drill Grip the Onix burst out, her long craggy tail slamming against the walls forcefully.

Since SomeGuy had left in a hurry – something about leaving a lobster-shaped pancake in the oven had been quickly mentioned – Lord of the Fireflies had replaced him, and soon he was waving his referee flag to begin the round.

Round VIII Start

Rosie was already half-dead, so the sight of her top-shape opponent was pretty depressing. Also, the fact that she weighted about a thousand times as much wasn’t of any help. At that moment, Rosie kind of missed her last foe – a tiny blue duck was something more reasonable to face, no? Nevertheless, she still had some energy left, and she had to fight until she couldn’t anymore – that was well known amongst all Pokémon. After all, the taller they are, the harder is the fall.

However, she needed some energy to take that behemoth down – how could she hope defeating Drill Grip half-dead? She laid down lazily, the way only cats have the secret of, and was engulfed by a thin veil of white light. Drill Grip, though, didn’t like seeing her opponent chillaxing just in front of her – It was actually pretty insulting. Willing to cut Rosie’s nap short, she began to grind some internal rocky organs with each other, instantly producing an infernal shriek that reverberated through the quarry. Rosie’s ears were doubly sensible to the sound, and the energy veil surrounding her vanished as she winced in pain, trying her best to protect her auditory nerves with her paws.

When the unbearable attack finally ended, Rosie uncovered her ears and gazed fiercely at the snake. She wouldn’t let her get away with that. Calling upon her meager connection with water, Rosie took a huge breath and sprayed a large amount of watery rings, which flew towards Drill Grip, crashing on her and exploding like a multitude of splashing meteors. Even though the water itself was very harmful for Drill Grip, blunting her body and disrupting her joints, the worst part of the water pulse was the vibration produced, reverberating in her entire body and making her shiver. The Onix roared unhappily – the sensation was sickening – but after a few moments of mind-clearing and deep breathes, she got over it and was ready to deliver some pain. With a mighty smash from her tail, Drill Grip dislodged some heavy chunks of rocks from the walls, and with a swing of her serpentine body, threw them to Rosie. The heavy pieces crashed around her, hitting her frail body and trapping her in a tomb-like rumble. Drill Grip grinned; that annoying water-spitting cat wouldn’t come out so soon…

…Soon, Rosie had found a way to escape the Rock Tomb through tiny holes (never underestimate cats) and was shooting yet another volley of bursting water pulses. Drill Grip made a futile attempt at dodging, but her very large and weighty body was hard to maneuver in the claustrophobia-inducing excavation. She howled in pain as once more the attack waved through her body. Without letting her adversary the time to run away, she coated her tail in iron and heavily swinged it towards Rosie. The Glameow ate it right in the face, and was sent flying several meters farther, finishing her course by crashing into a wall, seemingly unconscious.

Darksong took out her Pokéball and was about to recall her Pokémon, when Rosie suddenly got up, in a very minable shape, that is, but still very eager to continue the battle. Drill Grip frowned in annoyance – for a house cat, Rosie seemed tireless.

Damage and Energy Calculations

Chill – restored 5% energy
Screech – 1% energy
Water Pulse – 16% damage, 7% energy
Rock Tomb – 10% damage, 5% energy
Water Pulse – 14% damage, 7% energy
Iron Tail – 14% damage, 6% energy

Notes:

- Chill was disrupted by the Screech, so it restored only half the usual amount of energy.
- Both Water Pulses failed to confuse Drill Grip.
- Drill Grip hit the damage cap with the second water pulse.

Arena Notes:

- Nothing out of the ordinary.

Next Round:

- Mad MOAI orders first.

Just go for a Rock Throw first since it's a low-energy attack. If somehow that doesn't work, use Harden and do it again.

Rock Throw ~ Harden ~ Rock Throw

Let's finish this while we can, Rosie. Use Dig first, to avoid the Rock Throw, and then see if you can come up with the attack before your opponent can use Harden. If you still can in the last action, use Water Pulse; otherwise, don't worry about it. You did pretty darn well.

Dig (go underground) ~ Dig (attack) ~ Water Pulse
