• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

I finally have a purpose

Not a terribly important one, or anything. It's not, like, it'll affect anyone, really, but it's a direction I've realised I want to - and potentially have the means to - go.

So, the brother of a friend of mine recently moved to China, and obviously I didn't care at all. Turns out he went there to teach English, and the pay is pretty high.
I know, it doesn't seem like a good job for a guy who just got his degree in Astrophysics, but that's why it seemed like such a great prospect.

See, I value education pretty highly, and I've always thought of teaching as a noble profession. I wanted to become a Chemistry teacher, merely so I could teach. Hell, it's only Chemistry I wanted to teach because that's my best subject.
I'm not even that good at English, having only scraped a B at GCSE.
But that's why it's such a great job. The guy I was talking about failed English in Comp, yet he gets to travel, learn a new language, live abroad, and get fucking paid quite a lot for it.
And in some places, the only requirement is to be a native speaker!

Dream job? Fuck yes.

Anyway, tl;dr, I have something to aim for now, and that makes me happy.

PS: Do not ruin this for me, pretty please.

I think of that as more of a bonus.
You know, a reason to actually learn a new language, other than some vague "ehhhhhh what if you wanna be a translator some day?'

Then again, I'm probably looking out through some tinted lenses right now, and soon I'll realise how hard it'll be.

I'd probably have to settle for Korean instead because my mom's family used to live in South Korea while my grandma was an English teacher over there. She still taught Korean kids how to speak English after moving back to the US, but now she teaches English over in Saudi Arabia. I wouldn't want to move to Saudi Arabia; it sounds terrible over there, especially for women. It'd probably not be in my best interests to go to South Korea either, since I don't like any kind of Asian food that I've tried, and I'm hopeless with chopsticks regardless. If my future as a scientist proves hopeless, though, thanks for informing me.
