G/S/C Odd Egg in Gold?

Darksong

Back in action!
Exactly what the title says. When I went to the day care in Gold, they said something about an Egg, but they never gave it to me. I had a Croconaw, Geodude, and Togepi egg in my party at the moment, if that matters. Is the egg only in Crystal? Or do I have to do something to make them give me the Egg? Because they mentioned it once, and they don't talk about it anymore. Help, please?

The odd egg is 100% sure only in Crystal. Pokemon in your party have no effect on if you get the egg but if your party is full then I think it will. But in less organized and unnatural words for me...YOU PLAY GOLD! I do too! Woot for Gold!

Oh, but here's a question: if you traded the odd egg to Gold/Silver, it would still be random and 50% shiny, yes?

I've never tried, since I don't have the right link cable to trade from Crystal to Gold or Silver. I also can't trade between Red and Blue. But I'm pretty sure that the egg would still have its special qualities.

Assuming the trade would actually go through (I don't know if that item was programmed into GS or not), I see no reason it shouldn't. Baby stats are generated at the time you receive the egg, so the Pokémon's species, gender and shininess are set as soon as the man gives it to you. It shouldn't change over a trade any more than any other egg would.

...at least, that's the way eggs work in RS onward. I'm assuming it's pretty much the same thing. I am fairly sure that in GSC saving after you get the egg and resetting it if it hatches into something you don't like won't change what you get. I never really did any breeding in GSC, though, so I could be remembering it wrong.

Huh? I thought you couldn't. Oh well. Maybe I was thinking of the Battle Frontier. Don't ask why I would be thinking of that because I'm playing Emerald as I type this.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I read in a guide for Crystal sometime that if you wanted to make sure you got a shiny, you needed to save before you got the egg. That would mean the IVs are determined beforehand, and it doesn't make much sense for the IVs to be determined but not the species.
