• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Closed Satan's Dragons

Xigbar moved his hands to the wall he had propped his swords on. He took them in his hands, and layed back down against the wall. Hurry up and strike. It's your move. Xigbar thought.

"You look like you want to fight," commented the seven-foot Night Assassin. "I have no intention of starting a quarrel, and fighting will not help our case." He touched the very tips of his swords to the ground, but about five pounds of weight were on each of them anyway. He was ready to block if Xigbar struck.

"I'm waiting for you. Usually, whoever attacks first ends up being blocked, and then their throat is slit, therefore resulting in the death, giving the killer victory. It works perfectly when executed right. However, there is always a chance of the opposing fighter slitting your throat, and so you must be prepared. Which is what my second sword is for. One to block attacks, and one to deliver them." Xigbar created a battle scenario rather quickly in his mind, saying, "The most likely situation of the first block being off, and your throat being slit would be the attacker jukes you out. Which is another reason I carry two swords." Xigbar looked at the two swords in Shard's hands. "And why, may I ask, would you carry two swords?"

"Calm down you two!" Chokou soothed, letting her glossy wings flutter free at her shoulders.

"Why don't we just get some rest and get along, or I'll have Nagai come in here and make you calm down."

She crossed her arms and sighed.

"I'll have Plague come in and eat you. He's pretty hungry, after all. Besides, I was only asking a question. And I don't exactly sleep well at night." Xigbar propped his swords against the wall again. "Speaking of Plague, I'd better go make sure he hasn't run off." Xigbar walked out the door and walked over to his mount. He sat down next to the beast, and leaned against him, looking at the sky. Stormclouds from the South-East.

"To answer your question," said Shard calmly, "swords as big as these are for defensive purposes. Night Assassins such as I are described by our name. Some of us are for attack, some of us are for defense. I happen to be one of the latter.
"In my opinion, broadswords provide more area with which to defend. Having two of them doubles the chances of remaining untouched."
After his long speech, Shard leaned against the wall again.

"Plague, go." Xigbar ordered his mount. Plague stood up and walked into the trees, laying back down under an especially sheltered tree. Xigbar walked inside again. "There's a storm coming. And I don't mean I'm coming for anyone here, but there are clouds in the South-East. I just thought you should have a fair warning. In the meantime..." Xigbar opened a 'saddle bag' of his, and brought out some flint. Thankfully, the old man kept firewood around. Xigbar stacked the firewood up, starting with three smaller peices. He put two down about two inches apart, then put one over them. He found some paper the old man had, and stuffed it under the structure. He struck at the flint with a dagger from his 'saddle bag', and finally started a small fire. Slowly, it grew, until Xigbar could add a larger piece. He went back to his corner, and layed down on his things again. "I don't know how the old man can stand it to be this cold."
