• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Closed Satan's Dragons

Master had already told Evan and Lana that they were to work with six others to kill seven dragons; to Evan, this was merely repeating what he already knew.

Evan's only answer was to present the rolled-up scroll from within the folds of his cloak. He held it out to the man, observing the man's face calmly. The letter was his master's answer to the old man's letter, explaining the situation and accepting the mission. That was what Master said, so that's what it was.

Shard did nothing noticeable. "Alright, so will kill seven beasts and then we can go home? I'm guessing it's going to be harder than you say it is." A smile strode across his face.

"Well, obviously! But it won't be because of your lack of fighting skills. It will most likely be a lack of teamwork. None of you know eachother, therefor, you will not travel well together." He told the warriors. He picked up the scroll Evan had put on the table, and read it to himself. "Oh.... How terrible.... Yes, I was wondering...." He mumbled to himself. He put the scroll down. "As I was saying. You will all need to get to know eachother. So you shall stay here for the night, if you wish. Any questions?" He asked.
"That was one." Xigbar pulled his cloak off, and rolled it up. He threw it into a corner. He drew his swords, and leaned them against the wall. "I have one. We could leave now, so why don't we?"
"You could leave if you wanted to. But it is nearly dark." The old man gestured to the sunset. "And I know that some of you prefer the dark, but this will be a chance for you to get used to eachother. Any more questions?" He asked. Xigbar sat himself down in the corner, which was now his bed. "That was another one." He said.

Zrantox had enetered the meeting room, but stayed silent during the time. At last he said: "Yes, I have a question: Must I be forced to work with these beings? It's not really the preferred method of my work."

"Yes. Seven should be enough to take down the dragons, and be a small enough force to move quickly and stealthily." The man replied. "Anyway, it'll become you preferred method."

"I'll beilieve that if it happens," Zrantox muttered, "Which it never will. My method will always be working alone. And that's not going to change. Not now, not ever."

"Seems logical enough to me," said Shard. He stopped leaning against the wall and uncrossed the blades of his swords. "Looks like we'll have to find a way to work together," said the Night Assassin.

"You might change your fighting style when you see the power of a team as apposed to working alone." The old man said to Zrantox.
"I'm with him." Xigbar gestured to Zrantox. "Why should anyone here need a team? And the answer is always the same from you." Xigbar changed his voice into that of an old man's. "A team is always stronger than a single woarrio-" His voice went back to normal. "I've beaten fourteen goblins by myself in the arena. A small enclosed space." Xigbar told the old man.
"Did they work like one fighter?" The old man asked.
"No." Xigbar replied.
"Exactly." The old man pointed out.

"Teamwork is a lot more helpful," explained Shard. "A team can have many different positions. For example, someone agile who distracts the enemy, and someone strong to attack it. There's also room for defensive purposes.
"And goblins are moderately weak," he added, "so there's no reason that teamwork won't help them."

((Shard's acting like Shikamaru 0.o ))

"Yes, goblins are weak, so taking on fourteen, teamwork or none, shouldn't really be considered difficult. So again, i fail to see the reason i should work with you."

The old man was tired of the bickering. "Good night." He walked up the stairs to his room, apparently, and had no plans of coming down until morning.
"Well, now that the artifact is gone, I'll say it once more.... small.... enclosed.... Space. But you might be right. Goblins are weak. Maybe thirty would be a challenge? And by the way, I hate you all." Xigbar layed down and got comfortable. "I think I'll see you, sadly, in the morning.... After I eat." Xigbar found a small hole, and put his hand in it. He pulled out a small mouse eventually. "Hm... Not enough meat." He threw it out the window. "I'll go hungry."

"I'm... going to sleep outside tonight..." Whitney said, and walked out of the door. It was beginning to darken. The darkness... lovely...

But I don't want to work in a team! I'm different! I wasn't born the way I am now! I won't be able to work as a team! Not with those... those creatures...She thought, catching the scent of her dear mount, Midnight, who was gone.

She walked into the woods, following Midnight's scent. Then suddenly, something leaped upon her, a big creature.

"Agh!" Whitney yelled, losing her breath as the creature put it's paws on her chest.

"Midnight! God, you scared me there!" Whitney yelled at her mount. "Get... off!" She pushed Midnight off herself and stood up.

"Where were you?" She said as she brushed leaves and sticks off her clothes. Then she noticed Midnight had something in his mouth. "Oh... you were only hunting. Thanks..." Midnight has placed the rabbit in her hands. "I was feeling a little hungry after all the traveling... Aren't you hungry?" Midnight shook his head and licked his mouth.

"Okay, but I'll save it till tomorrow." Whitney found a comfortable space in a clearing and laid down, transforming into a white wolf.

Midnight laid down beside her, keeping guard.

Evan walked back to the wall, where he dissolved into a two-dimensional, human-shaped shadow. Lana was the same, on the floor.

He had no need to eat or sleep, but remaining in this form was easier. It required no thought or energy, although he absorbed energy from a number of sources - magic, light, heat, emotions - and likely didn't need to conserve it. He couldn't hear from the wall, either, but he continued to watch; he would return to his solid form when morning came.

"Hm. I'm all ears to teamwork, but if over half of us don't want to, then it'd be a waste of time. No use in forcing cooperation, I have found.", Kazil added as he removed his axe and stuck it in another corner. He laid down, and replied to Xigbar, "Then I hate you too. We're going to get along great.", he said disdainfully as he, tried, to sleep.

Chokou had fluttered quietly inside while no-one had been looking and was now in a corner, her wings folded behind herself carefully, so she merely resembled a human with an odd taste in clothing. She was quiet, untill she found an opportunity to slip a word in.

"Teamwork would be best off, you know. All of us have different skills. I, for one, am useless in physical combat, I'd be easy to kill without my magic. But you, for example" - She paused and pointed at Kazil - "seem to be incredibly good at weapon use. What if we ran into a foe that was immune to magic, and I was alone? I would surely die. But if you were to help, there would be a better chance for survival."

Kazil chuckled, "Of course. And against a fleshless spirit, I imagine your skills you come in handy. The only problems arise when working with uncooperative individuals. 'Tis hardly an ideal world, though...", he replied.

"It appears that none of us want to participate in teamwork," Shard commented. "Or at least, two of us don't. I think it's a valuable tactic to work together, but those of you who don't want to can go ahead and fight on your own. You'll regret your choice." A toothy grin spread across his face as he lifted one of his swords.

For his part, Evan was still on the wall, totally deaf though not blind. He was aware of an argument, and that Xigbar gestured toward him, but he had nothing to contribute. He was merely waiting for either morning, or for the majority to prepare to leave. Until the journey actually began, or there was a task for him to complete, he had no reason to exist. Nor did he have any reason to actually pay attention to the argument.

Master would, in this situation, likely try to defuse the tension, but he was not Master. Unless there was real danger - not including a battle between Xigbar and Shard, unless they forcefully involved Evan - all he could do was observe.

Shard lifted his other sword. It looked like he was about to attack. "I see." He stood still, with no attention of harming anyone.
