Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.
Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.
Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?
We're a little worse for wear, but I think we can do this if we try. Just need some luck. Chill first, then Metronome (of course) and try to do something either extremely destructive or very healing-y. If you're at less than 10% energy after the Metronome, Chill again; otherwise, another metronome.

Psyfox hangs limply in the air, suspended by his temporary electromagnetism even though he's too dazed and aching to hold himself up with his mind. It's more than just the last surf attack, though that didn't help: at this point he's starting to feel the accumulation of all this battle's nonsense, from the more mundane earthquakes, blizzards, and similar natural disasters to the actual meddling with the fabric of spacetime. Nevertheless, it's not over yet. Psyfox flips himself upright with a sigh and a burst of psychic energy, and sets his fingers twitching after only a moment's hesitation.
Goldeneye, also rather damp but in far better spirits than Psyfox, doesn't notice the abra drifting up on her until he makes a sudden lunge and clamps newly-sharpened teeth down on her arm. Goldeneye screeches, struggling to shake Psyfox off while intermittent bouts of paralysis interrupt her movements. In the end her own metronome comes to the rescue, and Goldeneye cups a ball of surging flame in her free hand before chucking the attack at Psyfox. The abra teleports out of the way of the slow-moving fire blast, and Goldeneye snarls, chattering angrily to herself. At least the attack did make Psyfox back off and, what's more, the heat of the flames melted the last of the ice clinging to her body.
Meanwhile, the other abra still in the battle isn't going on the offensive. Dreamling wags her fingers back and forth, back and forth, and then with a sudden pop shrinks down to pocket-sized. Although the abra's harder to get a hold of in her newly-minimized state, Random Number Degenerate is patient, carefully studying how she drifts on currents of psychic energy, waiting until she's distracted to make his move. The cleffa grabs Dreamling and hurls her forcefully to the ground. She lands squelchily in the newly-made mud, but thankfully her reduced stature comes with reduced weight, and she doesn't find herself sinking into the muck.
While the others scuffle, Jonathon waits off to one side, an eerie, apprehensive feeling having come over him since his own metronome attack. He feels gripped by a desire not his own, the desire to sacrifice himself in the aid of another--but, as his trainer doesn't have any other pokémon for him to transfer his energy to, he is ultimately spared seeing his strange wish come to fruition.
Psyfox's next target is Degenerate, but before he can drift over in the cleffa's direction, the abra actually briefly falls out of the air as his magnet rise fails. He picks himself up almost immediately, of course, no worse for the wear, but it is a bit annoying to have to put his own energy into floating along now, rather than letting electromagnetism do the trick. He has no problem reaching his target, of course, and his tail lashes out in a blur of motion and spattering of water droplets, hitting Degenerate clean in the middle of his body and knocking him flying. The cleffa merely folds his arms midair, stern and unamused. His body flickers with a faint ghostly light as he concentrates, prepared to lay a nasty curse on whatever pokémon might happen to defeat him this round--not that any will, of course, but just in case.
Goldeneye's turned her attention on Dreamling in the meantime, but the sableye's not having a very easy time getting a bead on the extra-small abra. She swipes and swats at the air, but each time Dreamling manages to float out of the way, like an overlarge but still quite nimble insect. Dreamling toys with Goldeneye for a little while, chuckling to herself as the sableye grows increasingly irate, then finally teleports away and aims a slicing burst of fighting-type energy at Psyfox's back. The vacuum wave knocks the other abra out of the air again, and no sooner has he regained the air than a truly horrifying tidal wave of toxic sludge rises to swat him down again.
Though still standing quietly off to one side of the main group, Jonathon has been cooking up a doozy of an attack. Like the surf before it, the sludge wave engulfs the entire arena, just a bit slower and more goopily. The smell alone is enough to drive Goldeneye to her knees, and then the wave comes down and actually engulfs her and she starts trying to retch up the hypothetical contents of her nonexistent stomach. Degenerate is simply engulfed by thick, flowing sludge, flailing desperately as he tries to reach the surface. Meanwhile the two abra pop up like corks, covered in disgusting sludge but at least not forced to swim in it.
Psyfox turns on Dreamling immediately, and unlike Goldeneye before him has far more luck striking the evasive abra, his precognitive abilities giving him some idea of how she's going to dodge. He stabs again and again with hands transformed into wicked conical stingers, managing to land several hard jabs that send Dreamling reeling back in the air. Dreamling, distressed, blurs briefly and then appears to split into four, generating three double team clones to protect her from further attack.
Degenerate laboriously hauls himself out of the sludge, aided, perhaps, by the strength of the next attack called to him by metronome. The cleffa feels immensely powerful as he reaches for Psyfox, his tiny arm and fingerless hand somehow managing to clamp on the abra with a painful, all-consuming grip.
Unfortunately for Degenerate, Psyfox is by this point resigned to all this metronome nonsense and doesn't even struggle as the crush grip settles on him, simply waiting for the attack to be over. Degenerate squeezes as hard as he can, but ultimately can't inflict much damage and shoves Psyfox away again, disappointed.
Goldeneye, meanwhile, has been struck by a paralysis attack, which leaves her stuck and twitching in the sludge, wishing desperately to get away but physically incapable of it. Meanwhile, Jonathon, who caused the trouble in the first place, quietly collapses in exhaustion. He'd been waiting, barrier at the ready, for just such a sweeping attack as the sludge wave he himself conjured, but ultimately couldn't hold it in place in the face of his weariness. His opponents are preoccupied--it may be a while before they realize he's out of the fray.

A huge crater marks the center of the battlefield, which is now engulfed in truly foul mud and toxic sludge, the standing water left behind by surf contaminated and a thick coating of slime clinging to tree trunks, bushes, and lampposts. The earth is uneven and cracked, and many of the remaining trees are leaning at drunken angles. Sodden petals are everywhere. A strange rift in spacetime hangs in the air, shimmering and warping reality around it. Looking at it head-on invites madness.

With the crush grip unable to finish Psyfox off, Random Number Degenerate is gratified that his next metronome offers him an even more powerful option. He can feel the air around him growing colder as his fingers tick back and forth, cold within as well as without, his shell hung with icicles and the grass around him crinkling and disintigrating into slush. Psyfox hugs himself convulsively as a bitter chill grips him, and it only keeps getting colder, and colder, and colder still.
He's simply lucky that his own metronome gives him an out in the form of a mat block attack. Psyfox throws his hands forward, a screen of golden-glowing fighting energy extending from them, forming a solid wall between him and Degenerate. Frost sweeps across its surface, followed by a steadily-growing coating of ice, which thickens to several inches deep before Degenerate is forced to give up and take a rest. Psyfox shivers on the far side of the barrier, where the air grows cold enough for him to see his breath in little puffs of white, but fortunately no colder than that. When the mat block finally fails the wall of ice shatters with it, littering the ground with thick shards and exposing Psyfox to the full fury of Degenerate's stymied glare.
Dreamling was content to watch the drama play out between Psyfox and Degenerate, but now that the fun's over it's back to business. The abra sets her now absurdly tiny fingers twitching, then leaps at Goldeneye, snapping a pair of powerful kicks straight through the sableye's head.
As usual, the ghost pays no attention at all to the harmless corporeal attacks, humming to herself as she cavorts in a circle, waving her arms and enjoying herself immensely as the power of the swords dance flows through her, temporarily ablating her paralysis.
Turning away from Degenerate with a shudder, Psyfox starts in on another metronome, one that thankfully has him focusing on someone other than Degenerate. Less fortunately, the attack it selects involves him hacking up a rather foul mixture of bile and toxins that's nearly as unpleasant experience for him as it is for Goldeneye. And it doesn't even slow the sableye down--she's already had her ability stripped away, after all, and while the slime is gross, it's not actually hurting her in any way.
Degenerate stomps a tiny foot in frustration, once, and then again and again, stoking the broken earth to new seismic convulsions. The magnitude the cleffa summons isn't as powerful as the earlier earthquake, but it at least rattles all of his opponents, most notably Dreamling, who watches with dismay as her painstakingly-constructed clones wink out of existence as one. The shaking is also particularly vicious to someone with her newly minute stature, shockwaves throwing her this way and that with abandon. As the rumbling magnitude dies away, Dreamling's left lying alone on the ground, barely clinging to consciousness.
Before Degenerate can close in and finish her off, though, Goldeneye hits him in the back with a strobing ray of rainbow light. Degenerate seizes up, a weird feeling passing over him. It doesn't feel bad, really, certainly doesn't hurt, but the world seems to shrink around him, to flatten somehow. And he does feel weak: horribly, cripplingly weak. Unnoticed by all, Dreamling curls tighter into a ball on the ground, disappointed. All this time she was waiting for Goldeneye to do something the abra could top, but unfortunately, a simple beam just doesn't give her anything to work with.
While Degenerate's distracted, Psyfox seizes his chance to take a shot at the cringing Dreamling. The shards of ice from the cleffa's own attack provide convenient weaponry. Psyfox sweeps several of them into the air with a wave of his hand and a burst of psychic energy, then fires them towards Dreamling at wicked speed. The spike cannon finds its mark, and though it only takes one spike to knock Dreamling out of the battle completely, the poor abra ends up getting pummeled by all five nonetheless.
That brings Degenerate back to the battle with a tiny shriek of outrage. That was HIS KO. His. Psyfox dares?? Pysfox keeps daring, honestly, and Degenerate's had enough. That is it.
Degenerate shapes his mouth into a petite "O" and spits a swirling water pulse towards Psyfox, scoring a direct hit. Unfortunately, the recent simplification of Degenerate's worldview has put his special abilities through the floor, and the attack comes out with all the force of a water pistol. Psyfox is left little more than damp.
Meanwhile Goldeneye quietly topples over sideways, gripped by paralysis once again.

Psyfox and Random Number Degenerate set their metronomes ticking simultaneously, both of them weary, both dreading what the attack will morph into more than anything. They want to win, yes; they want to get revenge, in Degenerate's case; but they're both tired, so tired, and they know they don't have more than maybe one good attack in them. Meanwhile Goldeneye can only watch, still held in place by paralysis, and wait to see whether she'll be a target.
No--at least not at first. Psfox coughs, and coughs again, noxious clouds of gas drifting from his mouth as he rocks in the grip of his own attack. Degenerate would run, but he can't, held by the power of his own metronome and the slowly-growing orb of golden light forming between his ears. The cleffa's engulfed in whitish fog, which stings his eyes and sets him coughing, too, though he never loses his grip on his attack. Strangely enough, though, the toxic cloud actually makes him feel stronger, somehow, or at least snaps him out of the mental fog that's closed in without him really realizing it, that's been affecting his judgement while he just kept on attacking, oblivious.
The glowing ball above his head grows even faster now, shining bright through the clear smog, vaporizing its dregs. Psyfox knows what's coming, but he can't even bring himself to move, to try to dodge. He barely has enough energy left to remain upright. The abra closes his eyes, but he can still hear the hyper beam gathering strength, a crackling hiss that rises and rises until it's a drawn-out shriek, until he can see the fearful golden light glowing even through his eyelids, until finally Degenerate lets the attack go with a yell and the hyper beam engulfs Psyfox. It seems like the whole world catches fire, a sheet of light through the abra's closed eyelids, every centimeter of his carapace burning, scoured by pure energy, the air scorching in his lungs, ears full of the screech of superheated air--and then nothing, as at last the proud abra collapses in a faint.
Degenerate slumps forward on his pointy arms, panting. He's dazzled for a few seconds by the light of his own attack, the massive column of energy that struck Psyfox before continuing on to vaporize a few yet-standing trees. The cleffa struggles to find Psyfox around neon-colored afterimages, around swimming black spots that seem to grow and multiply as he struggles to draw breath. The cleffa only sees it for a second, the black-streaked yellow of Psyfox's carapace, the abra sprawled in a dead faint, but that's enough. When Degenerate pitches forward in a faint himself, it's with a smile stretched across his tiny face.
And just like that, Goldeneye's the winner of the match. The sableye struggles to grin, still twitching and struggling to rise. It's not the most glamorous victory, and honestly she can't say she had a big part in it, but still--a win's a win, right?

All's quiet in the remains of the Central Plaza. Zero Moment recalls Goldeneye in a flash of red light, but though a couple battstlers laugh and joke a bit, congratulate ZM and fall to chatting, there's an edge of tension to their voices. The victory celebration feels hushed, subdued. Out in the park at large, a couple people who'd taken shelter behind trash cans or trees or an overturned hot dog cart cautiously get up and race off before they find themselves caught in another earthquake. Ice still glitters on shattered tree stumps and the remains of the pond, gone muddy and now hardly distinguishable from the various other puddles filling craters and new depressions in the ground. A faint breeze stirs the few flowers remaining in their beds.
As is typical at the end of a metronome battle, the trainers decide it would be best to leave swiftly. The police sirens wailing closer might influence that decision, too. Several of them pause, though, before sending out teleporters or linking hands with those that do. They usually don't look straight-on at the spacial rift shimmering in the air near the middle of the plaza, but they might catch it in their peripheral vision, glance at something just beside it, or just below. It's unsettling, getting a sideways look at some not-quite-right landscape on the other side, the bare essence, perhaps, of time and space. And, why, leave a door standing open like that, and who knows what might come through?
No time for contemplation now, though. The group departs before the police can arrive, but the organizers, at least, don't get off scot-free: within a week a very official-looking notice arrives in the mail, one that spells out in large, block, bolded letters that none of them are ever, ever, E V E R to set foot in Castelia City again.

Okay, that's a wrap! Huge thanks to everyone for playing along and getting your commands in again and again--it was awesome to be able to finish this battle straight up, without any DQ's along the way. I apologize for the sometimes large wait times, but I hope that everyone had fun nonetheless. And of course, a big congratulations to Zero Moment for taking home fist prize! You are officially blessed of the RNGods!
Now that this battle's over, I'm going to be focusing (alongside normal battles) first on advancing the Battle Royal tournament, then on getting those ancient 2015 tournament battles wrapped up. Depending on how those progress, I'm hoping to start up a new event before the end of the year, which I hope you'll all enjoy. Unlike this one, though, it's going to involve multiple concurrent battles, so I will probably need other people to help me out with the reffing. If you're not already a referee, please consider checking the Referees Wanted thread and getting certified so we'll have some manpower to run the next tournament smoothly.
Now, as promised, prizes! For winning, Zero Moment gets $64, and everyone else gets $32.
In the end I believe this is how the KO's stand; they also give a pretty good illustration of why we don't normally give EXP for these battles, because a lot of the KO awards are pretty silly:
Psyfox: 2 (last one to damage Alex before she went nuclear)
RND: 2 (last one to damage USB Charger before energy KO)
Goldeneye: 2 (last one to damage Jonathon before energy KO)
Jonathon: 1 (last one to damage RND before energy KO)
It occurs to me that it might have been better not to have made this an official battle in the ASB database and simply have asked Zhorken to hard-award the various prizes at the end, since as it is it's going to show up as a loss on most people's records, which seems unfair. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this, I think it should still be possible to delete the battle and just award EXP etc. manually.
Whoo! Second place, such as it is, isn't bad at all in a match this big and chaotic. Hyper beam is not magma storm, RND, so let it be known that I am still disappointed, but at least it's a suitably showy way to wipe a challenger off the field, so it's acceptable. Needs improvement, but now that (I think?) you can be a clefairy we've got ample opportunity to work on it!
Congrats to ZM for winning! That paralysis turned out to be pretty lucky in the end, heh, if a bit anticlimactic. Well done to everyone else—it was fun being silly with all of you and watching everything fall apart, haha. And huge thanks to Negrek for wrangling all of that nonsense and keeping it entertaining all the way through!
As for the prizes, I'm not really sure how all that works and have no real preference—whatever's easiest for you and/or Zhorken to manage works for me!
...as long as I get my clefairy, I think, probably.
Nice work, Psyfox! Top three is a big feat in our book, and you get to be a Kadabra now! *cuddles poor burned broken Psyfox* We shall get you fixed up in no time~
Congrats ZM, and very clever commands, everyone else! I was blown away by the ingenuity.
Thanks so much for organizing all this, Negrek! This was a ton of fun and wow, I can't even begin to wrap my mind around how you must have kept track of all that. Serious congrats to you too!
Whatever way is easiest for prizes/records is fine with me. If the "loss" can be manually edited and if it's not a lot of work, maybe they could be turned into draws or nulls instead of losses? It also is technically a loss, so. Anything goes.
