The Second Anomaly

The Second Anomaly is, as its name suggests, an Anomaly. Arceus only knows how the battlers got there or how they'll get out, but such is the way of the universe. Also unknown is how anyone can see, being as there are no visible light sources, but it is as bright as a typical midsummers midday. It is, at least to begin with, an infinitely large plain white platform floating in nothing. As the battle goes on, however, that platform changes to whatever is required by the battle - if, for example, there is a fish Pokémon on the field, there will be a large pond to swim in. There will be air for everyone can breathe. If Sandstorm is used, sand appears. And so forth. The gravity there is only half of Earth's, so each Pokémon is only half as heavy for things like Grass Knot. This also removes any energy cost that Flyers or Hoverers would need to fly or hover, be they Inherently or Consentually.

The most important effect of this Anomaly is that at the end of each round, both Pokémon in battle will randomly 'evolve' into any other Pokémon. This can be any Pokémon in existence, including Legendaries. This means they gain the new species' ability, moveset, types, everything. Also, the Pokémon are dazed and confused after this 'evolution', so as soon as the first round is complete and the first 'evolution' has taken place, the Pokémon can't listen to any commands and their moves are selected randomly, similar to Sleep Talk.

Another of the major effects of the Second Anomaly is that at the end of every round, at the same time as the 'evolutions', both battlers' energy is restored to 100%. Not infinite energy, note, so if a Pokémon uses incredibly energy-intensive moves, it could, at least in theory, faint from energy loss. As though to compensate for this, and healing moves will automatically fail or, if indirect like Giga Drain, will only cause damage.

The last effect of note is that at the beginning of every third round, a random object will appear. Any object, from sardines to submarines, and they can appear in any manner the ref wants. What they do is also entirely up to the ref. They vanish at the end of the round, again in a manner of the ref's choosing.

Han Tang clings to his tail protectively; though she knows it won't die in the rain, she's still a bit fearful. Perhaps to add some extra protection, she coughs out a burst of bright-white flames, which take the shape of another charmeleon; the flames dance to life, but they collect mud and dirt and even the rain inside them, and quickly seem to solidify into something more life-like. Although still not as solid as Han Tang, the substitute is clearly strong enough to take a few hits.

Han Tang is not the only one to think of this idea, or at least something similar. Dorothy, though not the fastest of pokemon, floats through the pouring rain with ease and elegance. She picks up speed quickly and dashes around Han Tang and her double, zapping around in circles so fast that the rain just bounces off her - so fast she appears to double, triple, Han Tang can't keep up. She can't keep the speed up though, and she has to stop pretty soon - but the results are clear. Instead of one eelektrik, four now float before Han Tang.

Unfortunately, it's pretty clear which one is real. The rain pours through three of the eelektrik, and they flicker in and out of existence. Only one of them stays solid in the rain, making the doubles a moot point.

Han Tang grins, knowing full well which eelektrik to target; she a claw and dashes towards the floating pokemon, jumps into the air, and mid-way to crashing into the eelektrik her claws flash metallic. She slams her claws into Dorothy - upon contact the clones disappear at last, and although Dorothy seems largely unharmed by the attack aside from a slight scratch on her side, Han Tang backs away with renewed confidence. Her claws are sharper, for sure, more deadly.

Dorothy groans at the loss of her clones, useless as they were. Not only has she lost her protection, but she's growing pretty weak, pretty fast. Though that last attack from Han Tang was weak, it just added to her long list of injuries, all of which hurt. She's not the angriest pokemon, but she sure is annoyed. And she wouldn't mind at all taking that out on Han Tang.

She lashes forwards at the charmeleon, jaw aching to tear into the fire type's stomach, but the substitute jumps forward and takes the blow. Dorothy keeps lashing out, all her anger fueling her attack as she tears at the substitute with fins, tail, teeth, anything - but she isn't angry enough to break the subsitute completely. When she backs away, panting and pleased to have released her fury, the substitute looks worse for wear but still hanging on. And Han Tang looks very thankful for having her sub to take that hit for her.

A bit warier of her opponent after that craziness, Han Tang raises the same claw as before and runs toward the eelektrik. The claw glows greenish-blue this time as Han Tang slashes into the eelektrik's side; and different from before, Han Tang rips deep into Dorothy, leaving a gashing wound and a gasping eelektrik. Dorothy stares at her side - the rain is washing away the blood as it seeps from her, easing the pain a bit but she still feels the pain, and dear god it hurts - and turns back to look at Han Tang, who backs away slowly, grinning.

Well, Dorothy knows she's running out of time, and she has to do something. Something big. She takes a deep breath; sparks of electricity zap around her, building up and forming a wild ball of thunder before where she floats. She headbutts it towards Han Tang, who stares in fear, but as the lightning arcs forward it zigzags wildly, as if unsure of its target - and even though Han Tang's subsitute is ready and willing to take the hit, the electricity flies upwards and then flings itself down on the mud, sparking all of its energy into nothing and leaving a deep singed arena where it hit. Han Tang and Dorothy both stare at the ground, one in bemusement and one in silent fury.

Neither of them have time to express their emotions, though. Bright light envelope the two and their shapes begin to change immediately. Han Tang shrinks slightly, turns circular; she sprouts smallish tentacles, and when the light fades, she's blue-and-brown, covered in protective armour - an omastar. Dorothy, on the other hand, slowly lands on the ground; her bottom half splits into legs, her fins into long, thin arms, and her head sprouts huge pincers. The light fades and she's revealed to be a pinsir - she gnashes her new weapons with glee.

Ironically, Han Tang's substitute is still a charmeleon. Han Tang pokes it with a tentacle, still bemused.

Before Han Tang can do a thing, Dorothy displays just how brilliant she is - she's been hiding it, after all. She grins, letting us all in on the fact that she was watching the charmeleon very closely before she changed her form, and the pinsir rushes towards the now-changed omastar, raising her fist as it glows blue and slashes down - and of course, Han Tang's subsitute jumps forward to take the blow. The substitute implodes on impact, unable to sustain the damage, and of course Dorothy grins at her display of power and brilliance.

Han Tang grimaces, wary now, but takes a new calculated risk. She crawls up towards Dorothy, rubbing gently against her all lovey-dovey. Dorothy stares at the omastar, more than a little freaked out, and pushes the pokemon away from her. What the hell is wrong with that thing? Dorothy wants none of that. Ew. Han Tang crawls away, feeling miserable and rejected and confused about what she did wrong - why wouldn't Dorothy love her?

She's about to feel even worse. Dorothy grins and gets down low, then pushes off the ground with all her power and practically explodes unto Han Tang. The pinsir's force is overwhelming - Han Tang is knocked backwards, Dorothy's pincers knock and dig into her armour and even after she backs away, there's a clear dent in Han Tang's shell. Dorothy looks a bit weakened after the attack, as if she put her entire force into it - but not as bad as Han Tang.

The omastar shrivels up before getting back upright; the battle's tide is turning, and not in her favour. She frowns for a second, but then her frown turns completely upright. She squirms around Dorothy in the downpour of rain, swimming around and boasting about how beautifully awesome she is and how pathetic the pinsir is - Dorothy simply has no hope to compete. Dorothy feels her fists clenching at the omastar's words, the bile rising to her mouth - she'll show her who should be boasting!

The pinsir dives towards the omastar pincers-first; she swipes her pincers across the omastar's shell, leaving another slight but noticeable dent to go with the previous one. Han Tang starts from the impact, but only for a second, before retaliating by kicking up some mud into the pinsir's face. Dorothy coughs and sputters at the attack, rubbing madly at the mud to try and get it out of her eyes; the rain helps to wash it out, but she's still got some of it stuck in her eyes. She blinks furiously, unable to see quite as clearly as before.

And of course, within seconds both pokemon are enveloped in white light; Han Tang's form changes entirely, growing wings and legs and a head and a tail - not to mention shrinking quite a bit. When the light fades, she's all shades of gray, a tranquill. Whereas Dorothy grows quite a bit - she loses the pincers though, growing fur and hair, and when the light fades she's all black and red, a zoroark.

Still wary of her opponent, Han Tang raises her wings and forms a bright protective shield around her. She stares Dorothy down, ready and waiting for whatever the zoroark has for her - but Dorothy is too busy fumbling around drunk-like in the rain to even notice Han Tang. The zoroark is quite preoccupied by her own hands and how strange they look, so big and funny, haha! And covered in rain! Weiiiiird. She's no where near steady enough to attack Han Tang, so the tranquill lets her shield fade, still glad she'd set it up just in case.

Han Tang waits a minute to see what the zoroark does - she's not as fast, if Dorothy were in good enough shape to fight, to outspeed the zoroark. But Dorothy is still fully drunk on her own hands and in no shape to attack, so Han Tang smirks and jumps into the air, twirling her smallish wings and slicing through the rain; she cuts through the air, so sharp the tension is completely visible and the strike arcs towards Dorothy - the current of air cuts through Dorothy's skin, leaving a rather sharp cut on her gut. Dorothy gasps, suddenly fully awake, and grasps her new cut with her claws. That really, really hurt, and it struck her completely unaware; she stared in stupor at Han Tang, furious.

As Han Tang landed gently on the muddy arena ground, she was hit with the most disgusting words she had ever heard. Dorothy held nothing back, as if her new dark form seeped into her soul; she insulted Han Tang's technique, her previous attempts at attracting another female, as if Dorothy would fall for that, her complete lack of any sort of tactic. Han Tang stared in complete shock - was she really that bad? She couldn't be - she was hurting, but she seemed to be on the winning end, at least by a bit!

She gritted her beak before opening it wide and letting out a beckoning caw; her cry echoed throughout the arena loudly, but no one echoed it back. Still, it was loud and powerful enough to seep into Dorothy's skull, hammering its way in; Dorothy moved her claws from her slash wound on her gut to her ears, protecting from the noise until it faded; the cut on her gut hurt more, but collectively, the damage was so much she ended up on her knees.

The two pokemon were again enveloped in white light; Han Tang flapped her way into the air before her wings shrank into her body and she floated in place; she grew and stretched, and became all hard edges; her neck shrunk into her body and her beak stretched out, forming a much larger, more square-ish beak; everything about her was square, sharp, rough. The light faded - she was blue and pink, and most confusing of all, she wasn't a she. She was a porygon. She blinked in confusion, but she seemed pleased.

Dorothy remained on the ground, resting on her knees as the light enveloped her; she kept roughly the same shape, but her legs grew much longer, stretchier, as did her arms. The rest of her became very potato-like. And when the light faded, her gender changed as well - she was male. She blinked, pained and confused - a hitmonlee.

Before Dorothy could move, Han Tang lowered her floaty head closer to her body, as if preparing to take a blow. This proved to be a godsend, as Dorothy rose from the ground, jumped into the air and landed feet-first onto the porygon, knocking them both into the mud. The impact was overwhelming for both battlers - Han Tang felt her/itself on the edge of fainting, barely able to float back into the air, and even Dorothy took some damage from the attack. She took an unsteady step backwards, shakily looking at Han Tang to see what the porygon would do - she'd done her best. Or he had. Whatever.

Dorothy could barely even see as Han Tang rocketed towards her; her skull was still lowered into her body as she slammed into the hitmonlee, the smaller porygon tossing Dorothy into the air. Dorothy felt the life flow out of her with a gasp - she hit the ground, her eyes closed, and the battle disappeared as she was withdrawn in a flash of red.

Han Tang sighed. She was barely hanging on, but she won. She actually won.
