Open State of Bliss

Shana looks over at Arthur and nods her head in thanks, giving him a smile.

"Thank you for the concern, Chief. We should be fine...I hope."

She then lets out a sigh, petting Vapor's head gently.

"I know that the best thing to do is to pull the pilot out when it gets too bad...I've lost a pilot once before. I'm not sure if you recall her, Chief."

Arthur shook his head sadly. "Yeah, there have been many losses from the damned Bliss. I'd probably be going the same way, if I wasn't keeping at it to end this with you kids."

Shana lets out a sad laugh, placing Vapor back on the bed. She get up and faces Arthur, looking as calm as she can. She prided herself on looking professional at all times, doing every task to the best of her ability and keeping a calm air to her.

At the moment, she looked like she's aged considerably despite her young age from her line of work. She bows her head in respect.

"Thank you for taking you time to help me calm Vapor, Chief. I hope we will have another time to chat...when it becomes calmer around here."

"Jeez, how clumsy can i be... I'm sorry, I..." Paul started to say, sitting back up quickly after his slip... then he realized the dragonair was also apologizing. "... huh?" That's when he suddenly burst out laughing. "You don't have to be sorry, miss Karae.. Well, apologizing and shying away from each other really is getting us nowhere. Maybe we should try something else... hmmm..." He then began to speak in a really fake, sarcastic voice. "Bwahaha! My very own pilot! I shall now rule the world!" Paul went back to laughing, then tried to calm himself. "Really though, I have never had a pilot before, and I'm just not sure what to do. So, why don't you tell me then, if there's anything I can do for you, to make your job and experience easier, please tell me, and I'll do it... just..." He grinned a little sheepishly, scratching his hair behind his back. ".. please don't eat me... at least until I've saved my brother..." Paul pointed to the closet.

Arthur nodded, smiling slightly. "You don't need to force yourself to grow up, you know."

With that, he turned around and started walking to his office.

Shana watches him leave, thinking of what he said. She sighs a little and sits back on the bed, stroking Vapor's head. She closes her eyes as she lets out a slow breath.

He's a really nice man...that Arthur.

She coos down to Vapor, leaning down and placing a soft kiss on her forehead.

Arthur strides into his office, stretching slightly, and glancing over some papers scattered over his desk. Plans, studies on Bliss, Pilot information... he left them where they were, thinking of attending them later. Walking over to a drawer, he glanced at the picture on top. A picture of his wife and daughter... long ago he'd learned to stop breaking down in tears at the sight.

Filing through the cabinet, he grabbed a folder labeled Current Pilots and Anchors, and grabbed the file on Vapor. Grabbing a pen, he wrote down what happened, and gave himself a note that further action should be taken. Putting that file on his desk, he sat in his chair and leaned back for a moment.

"Ah... What do do next..."

Karae blinked as he suddenly began to laugh. Tilting her head, she watched with some bemusement. At last, he asked her to tell him what to do, and she twitched her tail as she thought. "I... I haven't had an Anchor before, but I have seen other Pilots interact with them. I have a high level, so if I had trained more I would have been in Bliss already." she murmured, half to herself. "I might be in more danger than the others when using the ANIMa, then. Really, I should accept no help at all. I need to be able to do my best..." Her voice trailed off, and she shook her head, distracted. How could he help her? She would be weak, if she needed his help...

"Just... be here. Don't leave." she eventually muttered quietly, hoping he hadn't heard it.

((Failpost, rushed. D:))

The bitter Jolteon paced the floor. The others were already in there fighting, and she was still waiting for that fool. That foolish fool. She wondered why she had ever decided to trust him. That, and she hadn't ever gone into the Bliss before...

No, this was worth it. Anything to wake Amethyst. She'd keep waiting, for her.

"Ohhh, hurry up Marik... the sooner you get here the sooner everyone is free..."

Paul just watched her display of resistance for a while, and began to smile. He was beginning to feel a little more comfortable around her, for one simple reason... "You know, you sound just like my brother, Karae," he told her, and reached his hand down to her back to try petting her soft scales. "He always tried so hard to do everything himself, telling me that I needed to stay 'young and pure' to avoid the same fate as mother and father..." Paul suddenly grabbed a hold of the Dragonair around the middle, wrapping his arms around her and pulling that part of her body up to his chest to give her a hug. Tears began to flow down from his eyes, and he cried out, "And now he's gone, and there's nothing I can do about it! Please! Don't try to do everything yourself! It just won't work! Let me help you! I have to do.... something..."

Paul took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "If you're going to be off fighting those monsters all by yourself... at least let me make it so that that's all you have to worry about. If you're hungry, tired, or just want anything, just let me know, and I'll do it for you. Even the strongest knights have their squires, the kings and queens have their servants. At least let me do that much for you."

(Ah...Erindor's a fail. Makes you post three times without a response... XP)

Skazz thought for a bit before answering. "Well, if no one else is around, you can come back, or you can stay there for a little bit. Your call, though there doesn't seem much else to do."

"Besides, I'm hungry." he grinned. "I'll bet you are too."

Karae tilted her head. "...Oh?" She tried to sound interested at first, but that facade broke as soon as he decided to hug her and cry. She twisted a bit, surprised, but quickly calmed down. It felt... weird, but he was crying. Had she done something wrong? Right now, she had to somehow make him feel better... "Alright. I - I'll let you help me, and not do everything myself." she said, more to try and get him to stop weeping. It was unnerving her now - he seemed so much younger than her.

The idea of him serving her was equally odd, but she had to do something. She had the startling image of him crying himself into a puddle - and though it was ridiculous, well, she was no expert on tears. Nudging him gently with her muzzle, she sallied forth once again. "Well, I would like you to stop crying. It's... it's upsetting. I don't like seeing others cry around me." That was a lie, as usually she didn't care so much, but if it helped, she would say anything.

Hearing her comment about his crying was a bit of a surprise to Paul, but he did his best to try to conform to her request. Paul let go, placing the Dragonair back down on his lap, and used one of his hands, particularly two of his fingers, to try to rub and dry his eyes. "I shouldn't be crying... I need to be brave too. Otherwise, we all could lose, and that's just not an option. " His heartbeat was slowly returning to normal as he calmed down. "Geez, getting all worked up like this, when we've hardly even met... I don't know, I just don't know what's going on. Say, would you like some food? Maybe that would be good for both of us... It's so convenient here. Um... just what do you eat anyway? You're a snake, right?"

Karae was quite relieved when he stopped crying. Since he was no longer hugging her, she settled back on the ground, far enough that her own personal space wasn't violated, but not entirely out of reach. His reaction to her keeping her usual distance had been bad, and she resolved to try and be more... caring, because he obviously couldn't understand why she hadn't been close with him immediately. The thought began to nag at her - what if he decided he didn't like her, that she was too cold? He would have every right to leave her, to cease being her anchor, if she wasn't good enough...

When the question of food came around, she blinked. "My kind are omnivores. We eat nearly everything. I have no specific type of food I prefer, so some of whatever you have will be fine." There was no need to be snobbish or picky and demand something he would have never gotten otherwise, after all.

Arthur got up, checking his watch, and walked out of his office, and went to a crate labeled food. Reaching in, he pulled out some wild leeks and some eggplants, and gave a resounding shout. "Shana, Paul, come help me make food!"

Paul sighed a little bit, seeing the dragonair slide away a little bit. I can't blame her, he thought. She must be just as timid and new at this as I am. Maybe she'll open up more if we do more together. I just have to make things easy on her, yet, not make it seem like I'm babying her... Paul then heard his name on the comm... Mr. Arthur wanted him to help with food. "Ah, perfect timing too... Come on, why don't we go fix food for the others, Karae." He knelt down and held out his arms to her. "I'll carry you if you'd like."

Karae tilted her head as she heard his name called on the comm. Food? What impeccable timing. However, Paul's suggestion made her blink again. Was she hearing right? Surely he knew she could float! Yet... more physical contact would surely strengthen their relationship, and who was she to refuse something that would make her stronger, more useful? "Very well." She waited for him to pick her up, planning on wrapping her tail around his waist so that he didn't trip over it - but then she belatedly realized that she hadn't taken her own weight into account. Would she be too heavy for him?

((Another failpost. >>))

Shana looks at the com system when the Chief called for her and someone named Paul to help cook food for the others. She looks down at Vapor and notices that she's relaxed herself. She smiles and pulls a blanket over the water-pup before leaving the room.

"Kitchen...kitchen...down the hall"

She slips down the hall and makes her way to the kitchen, wondering what they would be making for the troops today. Once entering the kitchen itself, she saw Arthur holding leeks and eggplants. She clicked her tongue and started to list dishes that could be made out of those two i her mind.

"...we could make stew...anything works in stew..."

She then closes her mouth when she realized she was thinking out loud. She takes on her usual serious look and address Arthur.

"Here for Kitchen duty, Chief."

Arthur looks at Shana for a moment, than bursts out laughing. "You act like your about to go to war or something. It's not a crime to relax once in a while."

Setting down the eggplants and the leeks, he grabs some cutlery and makes sure they're sharp. "Alright then, we can make some soup with the leeks, and then I'll sautee these eggplants. Shana, your in charge of the soup, and Paul over here's in charge of slicing these eggplants, while I go find some oil and seasoning."

Nodding at them with their tasks, Arthur begins rummaging in a pantry.

((I just googled leek soup, and it actually looks good. o.o))

Shana blushes a bit, embarrassed that he laughed at her. She lets out a sigh, brushes her bangs out of her eyes.

Alright Shana, relax. He's right. We're not going to war at the moment...just cooking soup.

She walks over to where the leeks laid and picks up the knife. She tests the edge like her mother used too and goes straight to cutting the leeks for the soup. as she cooks, her mind wonders to a time when she'd watch her mother cook, holding onto her apron strings.

"mom...."

She shakes her head and returns to cooking.
