Success with the Poké Radar?

How much success have you had with the Poké Radar? I use it every now and then but not often seriously; sometimes I start chaining just because I feel like it, but end up breaking the chain for a careless reason. I have, however, managed to catch a shiny Phanpy at either 50 or 51 Phanpy in a row. :D And then I went up to 52 and, er, broke the chain. But it was fun. My second best chain is 23 Phanpy, and my third best is 17 Eevee. This is all on my Diamond version - I haven't bought Pearl and Platinum isn't out here yet.

Phanpy's the only shiny I've caught by using the Poké Radar, but I hope to catch more. I just need to be bothered to do it. x3 I dunno how long it took me to chain around 50 Phanpy, but it's pretty hard to concentrate for that long. It's rewarding, though.

So, how about your experiences?

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I don't chain very often, but I've chained for a few things--skitty, starly, nidoran male, and phanpy are all ones that I've caught multiple shinies from. For the most part, though, I don't bother with chaning; it's rather boring and frustrating, and nowadays there are much better ways to get shinies.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

The longest chain I've ever had was 17 or 18, and I've never even seen a shiny in the wild in any of the 4th-gen games (from the Poké Radar or otherwise.)

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I've only seriously tried to chain Ledian, and got about 12 before my chain ended.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I don't see how you people chain. It is frustrating and boring and near impossible for me. I group it in the same group as EV training: I want to do it, but is too long and/or frustrating.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

My longest chain is eight. D=
But I've never seen a shiny in the wild, though have seen a red sparkle... goshdarn other wild Pokemon D=

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

Chained 36 Kricketune (I didn't really care just what I was chaining; I was just chaining so that I could practice my chaining skills) before it got broken. Never seen a shiny through chaining, and frankly while I'd like a shiny of something I like I don't care enough to go chain for one.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I think my highest chain is like 23 Corsola or something. I really wanted a shiny Corsola.

But alas, I have no shinies to speak of. :(

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I got a shiny Bidoof after 13 of them.
But on every other Pokemon I try to chain, it breaks.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I broke my old record yesterday (not even an hour after posting here, too. XD)

So now I've chained 24 Bidoofs in a row. Still no sign of a shiny anything, though.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

Not really. I've chained 56 Pidgey and 45 Phanpy, yet no shiny for me D:

Third best is 36 Geodude. Currently I am borrowing Cryptica's Pearl version so I can look for a shiny Purugly or Glameow. I've already got an Absol.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I managed to actually get a Tyrogue after millions of tries. I also got a smeargle and plusle from the trophy garden. After that....nothing worth my time.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

i was looking for a porygon without my pokeradar, and then i decided to use it. the first pokemon i ran into using it was a porygon. i guess you could consider that a success. i haven't tried chaining yet. i might do that for a shiny i really like.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

Well, I havn't chained anything, but I did use pokeradar to find a Piloswine to evolve into mamoswine, but it was a failure...

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

^Is it that hard to catch and evolve a Swinub, which isn't exclusive to Poké Radar?

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I don't chain unless I'm looking for a PokeRadar-exclusive, which really doesn't make it chaining. Once though, I found a shiny Mantyke when I was randomly training above Sunyshore. -prods user title- And it was on my birthday, too. ^^

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I had a chain of 39 Pikachu die on me, mostly out of my own stupidity.

I was pissed. :(

Going on a car trip tomorrow; I'm hellbent on catching a shiny Croagunk now that they can be caught outside of the Marsh. We'll see where that goes.

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

I've never tried chaining yet, but I want to as soon as I've gotten a gold trianer card in Platinum and the Battle Frontier starts getting old and annoying. (I'm currently in Victory Road, so it won't be for a while -_-)

When I do chain, first I want to try a Machoke or something, and then I'm planning on going in for an Abra (with Absol's Mean Look/ False Swipe, of course). Is this too ambitious for a beginner who has only watched some online tutorials?

Re: Success with the Poké Radar?

Um, I got a shiny Bidoof after a chain of 13 on Pearl...

I fail at chaining. I use all of the tips (farthest patch, same type of rustling, don't get stuck in corners etc.) and my chains still die on me. Or there just won't be any rustling grass and I'll have to waste half my Repel to start over. How does everyone get chains of, like, 50?

Any tips for a bad chainer?
