The small group of summoners were gathered in the children's area of the temple, a circular patch of land carpeted with lush green grass and surrounded by tall rocks. A stone platform stood in the middle, large enough for several people, but only one man was standing on it - a short, thin man with a tangled beard and roughly-cut hair. He looked down at the summoners, glancing around to make sure there was nobody still coming, then smiled, immediately getting to the speech they were all waiting for.

"I realise that most of you probably know enough about werepokemon and pokepires to fight against them, and you've probably read some of the myths about wereanimals and vampires and can connect the dots yourselves. Or maybe that only goes for people that haven't been raised by the Temples, since they probably only want you reading their myths involving characters who are one hundred percent pokemon or one hundred percent human. Whatever, I'll pretend you're smart. And I know that most of you have heard the reports from the villages out west. But the Shaymin summoners don't. Or maybe they do, but they want to make sure that you're all up to date. So I, Silver, am here to tell you everything you should know but don't, remind you of the stuff you should know and do, and repeat a lot of crap that you know because it's been pounded into your brains.

"I'm sorry that you're going to have to suffer several minutes of boring exposition, but I'm being paid well for this. By our standards. You summoners have an insane amount of money from those taxes and everything, but a lot of us out west are the people paying you. It's about time we get to see some of that coming back to us, even if it's just me.

"This probably won't be much help, because, a) you should know all of this already, b) this is information of questionable accuracy that I've gotten from villagers, through means like threats, torture, bribery, and blackmail but not really, and c) I was only able to interrogate the people that survived, and it stands to reason that they're the ones who haven't seen very much. So, you know. Take everything with a grain of salt.

"Werepokemon are some massive tribe in the northwest, made of mages that can transform into pokemon. And, you know, that magic isn't supposed to exist, and you Temple bastards will make restore everything to how it should be, in case they threaten your rule.

"They've attacked both night and day, but on nights with full moons, they tend to leave the bloodiest injuries... except they also tend to leave their victims alive, so we know more about their activity on the full moon than any other time. They act like animals, except several times more vicious, but only on the full moon. Otherwise they act mostly human, even in pokemon form, and are generally more successful at this killing thing. They've gotten closer to the Temple of Shaymin than the pokepires have, so you'll probably be seeing them first.

"Pokepires, meanwhile, in the southwest, only ever attack at night. They're stronger and faster than people, but not always pokemon, because they also seem to be part-pokemon. They retreat whenever the sun starts rising, for whatever reason, even the fire- and grass-types, but they don't go up in flames - which probably wouldn't hurt all of them, anyway. A lot of people tried just waiting it out, and the pokepires were fine. They attack people and drink their blood. The first few attacks only involved a small group of pokepires, but more recent attacks were made by a larger army. They can use some of the elemental magic that your pokemon do, depending on their subspecies. They tend to have short swords and daggers and knives, but they don't always use them in a fight.

"Now,"
Silver said, looking over the summoners again, "you may be wondering what these werepokemon and pokepires - which is a stupid name, I must say - look like. How can you tell if someone is a werepokemon or pokepire? Pokepires are obvious. They'll look like a human with very obvious characteristic of a pokemon species. For example, imagine me, except I'm covered in brown fur and have long, tapering ears coming out of the top of my head. I also have a long, fluffy brown tail that's white at the tip. Maybe I walk a little weird, maybe my legs are strangely shaped. You have just pictured a pokepire. And yes, I have seen one with those characteristics.

"Werepokemon are harder. They'll either look like a normal human or pokemon, with nothing in between. Maybe they act more like an animal in their human forms, or more like a human in their pokemon forms, but sometimes actual pokemon and humans do the same thing. So if you want to know if someone is a werepokemon, well, it just sucks to be you. Because you can't. You just can't. You can scan a werepokemon in human form and you'll learn that he just happens to have a level, perhaps, but maybe you scanned a mage instead. And no matter what, if you try to capture a pokemon-form werepokemon, it'll fail, but how do you know they didn't just escape? Well. You don't. You have to see them transforming.

"Shame, isn't it?

"And that's your quick lesson on werepokemon and pokepires. If you're still paying attention, congratulations. Maybe you won't die when you're unexpectedly faced with them, if you weren't paying attention to what you were told before. That's pretty much it. I have nothing more to tell you, so you can stop paying attention now. Oh! Wait. There's one more thing."

Silver grinned, leaning forward toward the crowd. His face and skin was rapidly turning pale.

"I wasn't kidding when I said you can't tell if someone's a werepokemon."

He suddenly grew outward, falling forward, ragged clothes tearing apart and falling to the stone under his feet. Strange patterns were growing on his chest, and then he was a togekiss, already several metres in the air and disappearing fast.

Spearow, perched on Ilene's forearm, screeched in alarm, and Ilene stared after Silver dumbly.

"Gwuh?"

It took several precious seconds for Ilene to fully process anything, and with a muttered curse, she looked beside her to make sure there was empty air. She focused her magic power, saw and felt it appear as a blue dot, and quickly drew the Calling circle, large enough for her pokemon to emerge from it.

"Charizard!"

The circle was filled with a swirling white light, and the orange dragon shot out of it, flames filling his mouth...

...and the flames died as he looked around, finding nobody that looked like any real opponent; the weretogekiss had already flown too far, and although it probably wouldn't be impossible to catch up, Silver had a substantial head start.

"That was... rather disturbing..." Snow muttered quietly from the back of the group.
Now that Silver's gone, and we know he's a werepokemon, what will we do... I don't know anybody here, so I can't think of who would be the best in the group to travel with... that woman with the Charizard... her name was...? Irene? Ir... Ir... Ilene! She looks strong but...

Snow, completely lost in thought, began absentmindedly drawing pictures in the air with his power.

Esther was horrified at the scene she had just witnessed. Paralyzed with fear, she watched as Silver flew off into the distance. Trying to get the image of a man suddenly turning into a Togetic out of her head, she tried to focus her power. She drew a hasty Calling circle, and a large bird materialized from it. It let out a shrill cry, staring menacingly at the fleeing Silver.

She glanced over the other summoners, wary of anybody who didn't seem to be shocked or drawing a Pokegram.

A quiet voice came from behind her, and Esther turned. Not someone she knew, probably from another temple.
"That was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life," she muttered.
She paused.
"So... should we go after him? Or what?" she immediately cringed, hoping that nobody would say 'yes'. Shaymin temple could handle themself, right? They were all good summoners, too... right?

Isis listened carefully, blankly staring at the man with concentration. When he became pale, she thought it was out of fear. But then she realized that the man had become a Togekiss, just like that. It was fascinating and frightening at the same time, but she didn't show the latter emotion and stood her ground. Honestly, she was rather relieved when he flew off, and held back a sigh.

"I don't quite know what to do next either," Isis confessed, shaking her head. Her black hair went all over her face, momentarily covering her now-dull blue eyes, but then they were clear again. This time, she let a deep breath escape her mouth, and then she stood up straight again, looking off into the distance for a few seconds.

Kcilak had been leaning back a bit the whole time. Most of the information got into his mind, but some of it was rattling words and sentences that he didn't understand at all. He was about to ask what the variety of werepokemon was when a Togekiss flew away.

"Dang it," he said. "He was right. I couldn't tell that he was a werepokemon. Oh, well. At least I learned a valuable lesson: never trust anyone with weird names."

Ancia pretended like she knew that would happen, not showing any surprise on the outside, although in her personal refuge (a.k.a. her mind) she was rather shocked.
She muttered under her breath, "I'm going to strangle that guy if we ever catch up with him."
She then heard Kcilak, who she was sitting next to, say something as well.
"Never trust anyone with weird names."
You can't really trust anyone safely, weird name or not, she thought.
"Except me," she added, aloud this time.

Kcilak looked to the side. "I don't know your name, so that means I don't know if I can trust you or not. But for now I will, since you're here." He looked in the direction of the werepokemon--or whichever way he had gone--and then back to Ancia. He shrugged. "You're trustworthy."

Valkrie shook her head sharply and started the Calling circle. A second later the Togekiss was gone.
"Damn," she muttered and waved a hand. The Pokegram in the air disappeared, and she smiled slightly to the Charmander near her leg. "That was unexpected."

((If anyone sees any spelling mistakes, please correct me ^ ^; I have to use IE right now))

Aoibheann had been paying attention, albeit not very much, but she had. It was a pretty boring speech. Sigh.

She snapped to attention, however, when the man speaking started to change. She hissed and started two summoning circles. They materialized at her sides, first as the tiny dots, and then quickly expanding into full circles. A second later, a Glaceon and a Jolteon had lept out of the circles and were at Aoibheann's sides.

"Blizzaga, Thundaga, get hi-"

She cut off when she noticed that he was gone.

"Damn."

Ilene swore and waved at Charizard, cancelling her previous order. It was too late, so there was no point in chasing after the togekiss. She hadn't known togekiss were that fast, though... they probably made better flying pokemon than fearow did...

She shook her head, finally turning away from the disappearing weretogekiss. "So," she murmured. "What now..."

Charizard wasn't necessary right now, so she drew a Recalling circle in the air. A red beam shot out of the much smaller circle in the middle, striking the pokemon before he realised the circle was there. Transforming into the same red energy, Charizard was sucked back with the red beam into the circle, which promptly flashed red and disappeared.

"We'll... let's tell someone from this Temple about that guy, and we should get going..." Ilene looked around at everyone, wondering if any of them happened to be a werepokemon. A werepokemon might've snuck in, and Silver - assuming he'd been telling the truth throughout the whole thing, but it didn't contradict anything she knew about werepokemon and pokepires - never said that a werepokemon couldn't also be a summoner. Or what if a werepokemon had been a disciple of a Temple this whole time, hiding their extra ability, so nobody would ever know?

She'd be careful, that was all, and she wouldn't voice her suspicions in case she was right. And if she was wrong, there was no need to say it.

"If we just start to leave, there should be some people at the entrance, right? So, let's go, unless someone has another idea."

Esther nodded. She put her hand on the great bird's back, feeling the reassuring texture of his feathers. She draw a smaller pattern inside the first one, and the bird sank into it.
She then turned to face the entrance and began walking, hoping that no one would get an idea to do something stupid or dangerous. She glanced around the group of summoners, looking for anyone who could be deemed suspicious, and picking up scraps of conversation.

((You can de-evolve your pokemon without resummoning them, right?))

Ancia considered sending Blavabol after him, but decided against it. Zubat weren't the best of fliers, and didn't fare well in sunlight.
"Sorry," she said to Kcilak. "I forgot to introduce myself. Ancia of the Lugia Temple." She extended her hand for a handshake.
Her eyes flickered to the girl with the Charmander close by. Probably not listening when he said werepokemon couldn't be captured, she thought.

Ima, her claws tightening her summoner's shoulder, screeched upon seeing the weretogekiss, but didn't pursue him after a sign from Viriat. He saw the reaction of all of the other summoners, and how they were starting to talk to each other. Viriat walked up next to them, ready for suggestions.
