Open Super Smash Bros.: Conspiracy

The combined shots sent Saturn flying backwards. Moments after that, his fists slammed above him.

Enough of this. I've been held up by these weaklings for far too long. I'd better use that and finish this.

With that, his body remained in battle mode, with one addition: the glowing ring was absorbed by the chest cannon.
----
Mecha Sonic was caught by the knight's tornado charge. Having been pushed back, he found himself on the building's edge.

That's when he saw it.

Saturn, in full battle mode, ready to fire.

Oh, no. Not good. Definetly not good.

He jumped down, even as Saturn began to speak:

"As a reward for pushing me this far, weaklings, I will show you my greatest power."

The huge robot aimed his entire body at the robots, with every cannon and fist ready to strike.

"END OF-!"

Saturn suddenly found himself faced by Mecha Sonic.

"I wouldn't use that attack, Saturn. Or did you forget what I told you?"

Saturn looked taken aback. Then, showing clear reluctance, he deactivated his cannons.

"No," he snarled, "I didn't forget."

"Huh?"

As you could guess, it was Megaman that let off that sound. He lowered his buster. Why did that guy just stop? Bass glared at him.

"Stop spacing out, you moron! You're in a middle of a battle! Have you forgotten who's being kind enough not to kill you on the spot?" Bass yelled. Of course, the hypocrite had too lowered his weapon and had his mind elsewhere. Bass glared up at Saturn. "And what kind of warrior would just stop? I thought you said that I was the weak one!" Megaman looked at Bass worriedly.

"Bass-" he warned but was then cut off.

"Shut up before I drop you, blueberry!" Megaman sighed.

Bass, you are the oddest person I know sometimes.

Meta Knight watched with interest. What did he mean, 'that attack'? Why was he preventing his ally from attacking? Wings out, he went over.

"You shouldn't let yourself be distracted like this. Why do you always cower with that larger machine every chance you get?" Though Meta Knight was provoking him in order to get his attention, he was curious as to who this 'Saturn' was. Already, he didn't like him.

"He doesn't have to give his reasons, weakling," Mecha said, knowing that Saturn could easily attack again, "We play for a higher game, Saturn and I. That is all you need to know. Consider yourself lucky I interfered when I did."

He turned to Meta Knight. "You too should think yourself lucky. Had Saturn killed those two, you would have been next. And I wouldn't be able to stop it.

"You may continue, Saturn. But do not go into the Saturn Final mode."

Is this battle over now? Megaman wondered to himself. He disengaged his buster. Bass glared at him again.

"Don't assume things!" he snapped, once again holding his buster up, ready to fight.

((Wha--I never saw your post until Ketsu posted, Exo. Apologies for not responding sooner.))

'Higher game.' Perhaps... they are?

"But I still don't understand. Why don't you want him to... go all-out on them? If this one is your ally, then what do you fear? Why are you holding him back?" Meta Knight turned to Saturn. "Do you understand?"

No. There is... only one. Now I know this.

Something seemed wrong. The big robot stopped. Yuri slowly rose. Everyone else seemed to take a brief respite.

"What are we doing...?", she asked in a low voice to herself.

Seeing the blue man ready his gun told Yuri to remain vigilant. She took a deep breath and got back into fighting stance.

((Sorry for not being able to post sooner, but unfortunately, where I am, there is very little Internet access. This might be one of my only chances to post until late Saturday/Sunday))

"I have my reasons, warrior," Mecha Sonic said, "As I just said, Saturn and I play for a higher game. Allowing him to attack while in the Saturn Final mode would be a... terrible mistake."

"I understand perfectly," Saturn said, "I understand that it would indeed be a mistake to use my greatest attack. I understand that now that you know this... well, Mecha and i can't let you dig any deeper."

The huge robot turned to Mecha Sonic. "What say we have a little opponent shuffle?"

Mecha Sonic took aim at the humanoid blue robot. "I couldn't agree more."

They attacked as one; Saturn sent his fists at Meta Knight, and Mecha Sonic opened fire at the blue robot with missiles

He acts as though.... Surely Saturn can't be that powerful? He's only a fighter.

Meta Knight was not allowed to think on it further. Already airborne, it was difficult to dodge; he went to put away his wings and draw his cape, but a flying fist smacked him down, knocking him through the roof of yet another building and leaving a splintered hole about Meta Knight-sized.

After a few dazed moments, he burst out through the roof again. Of course, he missed his mark--he had just had a hunk of metal slam his brains--creating a new hole in the roof. Either way, he quickly made up for what momentum he had lost on impact and flew at Saturn, attempting to get in close and aim one, powerful slash at his head.

I will soon see.

((Troublesome unidentified buildings! Please, do your best to destroy them in the midst of the fighting so I never have to describe these vague constructs.))

Clang.

The Knight's sword struck Saturn's head. The huge robot pulled back before the blade could push through the metal- unlike Mecha, Saturn had no regenerative ability.

I know I can't go into Saturn Final mode, but a warrior such as this one requires more power than just the hammer. Too bad he's seen all but two of my attacks.

Oh well; it's not like I had much variety to go with anyway.

The two tanks on his back reopened, and Saturn sent all eight missiles after the warrior.

The sight of the oncoming missiles did not worry Bass at all. Instead, he smiled stupidly and yelled to Saturn: "Hey, you!" Bass lifted Megaman up at this. "Think fast!" Megaman looked at Bass worriedly.

"Bass, I've changed my mind. This is a terrible ideaAAAAAHHHHH!" The sentence ended in a scream because, at that moment, Bass, in an odd show of strength, had thrown up over the missiles at Saturn. Said missiles then hit Bass, knocking him back a few good meters and making him pass out.

Megaman, on the other hand, continued to sail through the air. Saturn's legs were coming up. Fast. All Megaman could do was hold his arms out in anticipation and hope for the best. Finally, with a resounding "CLANG!", Megaman hit. He clung onto Saturn's leg for dear life.

I hope this works, he thought. This guy's systems could be incompatible and I'm never taken data from a undefeated enemy before. Megaman gulped. Well, here goes nothing. And with that he engaged the VWS and hoped for the best.

((That said, Exo, what would you consider to be Saturn's basic Special attack?))

((Probably the "launch the disembodied fist at enemy" bit))

Saturn had no time to see if his eight missiles struck home, as he found that his disembodied "legs" were grabbed onto by the blue robot.

"Didn't I say that we had switched opponents?" Saturn snarled, activating his leg cannons as he did so. The beams blasted out of the "legs," and anything unfortunate enough to be near the "leg" would at the very least be struck by the shockwave that the cannon let out.

On the ground, Mecha Sonic took aim at the black robot, and opened fire with the missiles again, this time also firing some bombs.

((Depending on what happens, this could be my last post for a long time.))

((Hey, Exo? We should think about initiating Plan B to keep the plot going (as in, not an endless slug-fest)--whatever that may be. Nobody's going to die, methinks.))

Seeing the blue one latch on to Saturn made him delay for a moment. The missiles fanned out, four on each side, and prepared to converge on him. Reflexes overriding all other thought, he withdrew into his cape. It was close--as he warped away, a missile scorched the fabric--but he had gotten away relatively unharmed.

When Meta Knight emerged, he wasn't sure of what he'd see. In his rush, he hadn't given where he would end up much thought. He wasn't given time to think afterwards, either; immediately, he was forced to grab hold of Megaman's leg. This was probably good, as he was tiring from flight.

Since it had crossed his mind when he first saw Megaman clinging to Saturn, he inquired, "What are you doing?"

Megaman called out as he was blasted by the leg cannons. He landed a good few meters away, and from there he continued rolling for a few more. He groaned as he pushed himself up. Then, he caught sight of the missiles and the knocked-out Forte. "Forte!" he called out, but realized that he was out cold. I hope I had enough time... Megaman tried to use the weapon he gained from Saturn. He turned gray and shot off his fists, which managed to hit a few of the missiles before returning.

Of course, some survived and hit the already battered robot. C'mon, get up, Forte!

((They say plan B is always the better one. High time we start going into the reason of the title, wouldn't you agree, SE?))

Saturn shot downward until his chest cannon was facing the black robot

"You've entertained me for this long, weakling. But it's game over now."

His chest cannon began to glow.

"Time to die!"

That was when Mecha Sonic teleported in front of Saturn before he could fire. Needless to say, Saturn took this badly.

"I'm not in the Saturn Final mode, Mecha. Are you telling me I can't use my chest cannon either?"

"Did you forget what else I told you, Saturn? We didn't come here to allow everything to go into absolute war, as nice as that would be. You remember the higher game, don't you?"

If Saturn could show emotion, he would no doubt be showing barely restrained fury.

"I didn't forget. But this one's a traitor. Surely a worthless fighter such as he could be killed."

"Not yet. Believe me, the right time will come soon. But that time is not now."

The blue robot turned away. "Now let's go."

Without wasting another word, he teleported away. Saturn paused to look at his enemies.

"You got off lucky this time, weaklings. But round two will end in your death. That's a promise."

With that, the huge robot shot upward, and then floated away.

((I would agree, Exo, most emphatically.))

Meta Knight rolled on the ground, still holding on to Megaman. He had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Standing, he listened to the machines' exchange. If he had decided to put anything in, it would have been too late; they were gone, having left burned and battered buildings in their wake. Meta Knight saw Duftmon, back in his Leopard Mode, dart past, chasing after his companions.

He turned to Megaman, though when he spoke, he wasn't addressing anyone. "I didn't want to get this involved, but I suppose this is the only way. I still don't want victory for Master Hand." Meta Knight glanced after the three, who had become shadows against the afternoon light. "I'll see myself off."

With that, he flew off.

((If no one else is posting, then despite my words to Ketsu, it is the Masters that are shorthanded. Either way, just disperse. I'll see that something happens if necessary.))

Not five minutes after the battle had ended, the same fighter that had met with Crazy Hand earlier appeared in front of the glove in the same shadowy corner.

"So tell me what was the outcome of the battle... of the skirmish... of the clash?"

"Better than I could have hoped," the fighter said, "Those serving your counterpart only have an inkling of my true plan... but that was only on account of it being revealed."

"What?! That's insane... stupid... foolish! What if they find out... catch on?"

"They won't," the fighter said, "Mecha Sonic only said one small detail; barely enough for them to know of what will truly happen to this world!"

"Even so, he should not have let that slip... said that in the first place," Crazy Hand said, "if one of the fighters decides to stick their nose where they don't belong... try and find out more-"

"I won't let that happen," the fighter said, "trust me, Crazy Hand. Anyone who learns more than they should will be killed."

"I find it difficult to take your word... trust you... believe you. They could very well find out more... discover the truth, and then what?"

The fighter shot forward until he was face-to-face with Crazy Hand

"Even if they discover the truth, they will really only be discovering the partial truth. I will personally ensure the greater game is not revealed."

The fighter began to laugh. "Rest assured, Crazy Hand, nothing will stand in your way... and more importantly, nothing will stand in the way of mine."

The fighter began to exit the shadow, but then turned around and spoke again:

"You should also know one more thing: Bass is no longer our ally."

Without waiting for a reaction, the fighter departed from the shadow.
----
Elsewhere, Saturn was lost in thought.

I know that Mecha and I are playing for a higher game, but does that give reason to keep those weaklings alive?

Realistically, Saturn knew that it was. In order for he and Mecha to win in the grand scheme of things, they would have to bide their time, and keep as many fighters around as possible.

Even that traitor Bass... when he's outlived his usefulness, I'll ensure to kill him first! He along with anyone that stands in the way of our goal!

((Heh, heh. Ominous foreshadowing is ominous))

Yuri just about collapsed onto the ground when the big scary robots flew off.

"Glad we resolved that one...", she said in exasperation.

The short warrior disappeared as well, leaving only those on her side. Or so she hoped.

Sitting down, she spoke again, this time to herself, "Yup, gotta get a lot stronger."

((Need... character ideas... but... haven't done anything... Nintendo... in ages...))

Megaman stared at the spot that Meta Knight had been in before he flew off. "Alright then..." he mumbled to no one in particular. He once again glanced at Bass before dragging himself to the black robot. I can't just leave him here... This is more than his auto-repair can handle. Megaman sighed. I haven't used this part of my programing for along time... He looked up at Yuri.

"Do you have any idea of what we can use for makeshift tools? I've got to fix my leg and Bass," he said.

Yuri stood up at the sound of someone talking to her. It was the human-like blue robot. Asking about tools and whatnot to fix himself and the black one... Wasn't he fighting against us?, Yuri mentally questioned.

"Ehehe, not really. I'm no good with these sorts of things.", Yuri replied, "Bass... that's a funny name."
