Pretty pictures aside, I believe the point is:

If Pokemon was done realistically, the whole situation would be much more dangerous for the humans involved. The makers of the videogames and of the anime do a real job of 'dumbing down' the concept and a lot of the situations, to keep them suitable for children. Real Pokemon would be very dangerous, even to the most experienced of handlers and trainers. They are at their heart, wild creatures. They think differently than humans, and they have their own instincts as well. Overall, if you want to try capturing wild, powerful creatures, to use in battling with each other, good luck, be sure to write me in your will. ;)

Pokémon just don't want to attack humans. In Colosseum, they say that shadow Pokémon aren't afraid to attack people, implying that normal Pokémon wouldn't attack or anything? I dunno.

well, that last part is true, but i still think the series was better off with misty.
