• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

    Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

    Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

    Sir was actually satisfied with the art. He just wants me to print off a bigger picture.
    Heehee, I guess I am too then =P But I won't try for it. I'll nominate you if you nominate me ^^

    Nominating yourself for one of the things....well it never said you couldn't but....I dunno.
    I want to be an Ascended Fanboy/girl in the fictional sense. So bad. D:

    I think what helps in learning new types of characters is--and this is going to sound silly--having empathy for them. And an important factor in that is first coming up with their motives, then their backstory, and then come up with their personality. It's a matter of cause and effect; their backstory should reflect upon their motives, and their personality should reflect upon both, which is why you do it in that order. If you know the reason why they behave the way they do, it's easier to relate, and easier to determine how they would react in any given situation.
    Lately I've been doing a similar thing with my in-the-works Digimon fanfic. I can scarcely come up with a backstory and/or significance for each character that hasn't been done in previous Digimon media. I'm starting to recover from that, though. Building upon what has previously been done is pretty much what a fanfic is; therefore, I have found ways to combine and put twists on such things when I just can't think of anything original. Realizing you can do that helps a ton.
    I think it's a bit late for me; when coming up with a cast of characters, I can compare the vast majority of them to at least two tropes, just off the top of my head. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not.
    Okay?

    TVTropes. D8 Never, never, never let me on there while I'm planning a fanfic. EVER
    It's alright. I have been working on it in bits. The fact thatschool started is the only reason it is so delayed. I have to make this work either way though. I'd like to win that best ref thing in ASB so to do that I cannot disappoint^^;
