Open Green Hills and Blue Skies

Kiara couldn't help but giggle at the boy named Ogio who was trying to gulp down the Moomoo milk. She then began to frown at the sight of Alex cringing from looking at Ogio's scraped. Kiara then turned to her bag and got out another bottle of Moomoo Milk. She looked inside her bag. Not counting the one in her hand, there were three bottles left.

She gave the bottle in her hand to Ogio. "Here's another bottle. You seem to like this Moomoo Milk."

Dink grunted with a bit of amusement as the boy on the bike rushed past them. When he crashed, Dink just muttered, "Ouch." Eventually, he was guzzling down Moomoo Milk, and Dink finally felt like approaching. Dink must have been about two thirds this young man's-this "Ogio's"- size. He was very large for his age. Dink was very small for his age. He considered befriending him, but decided he'd have no more luck than he had with the rest of his companions. So he just sat down in the little circle around him, muching quietly on his tree bark.

And he stared at Ogio. He stared at him like he was trying to burn his soul. Obviously, he wasn't, because that would be ridiculous, but it was a good way to focus on one person. While one hand held onto the tree bark, the other automatically plucked at single blades of grass, and set each one on Dink's thigh before going for another. He hummed the tune nursery rhyme "Solomon Grundy" under his breath and through the bark. And he continued to stare at the newcomer.

Ogio muttered something about the Natu hating everything that wasn't a bird, but the Pokémon didn't seem to be attacking any of the others, so Fletcher labelled it harmless and thought no more about it.

He felt like saying something, but Kiara and Alex seemed to be doing a nice enough job of playing nurse, even with the latter's somewhat absurd fear of blood. He wondered what kind of blood trauma one had to experience to have the very sight of it scare you, and figured that whatever the amount it was probably not enjoyable. Or perhaps the kid just had an irrational phobia. He'd ask him about it, later.

For the time being, he sat somewhat near Dink, waiting for something to develop. Ogio, for all the speed he was going at, probably had somewhere important to get to. Or maybe he was just an impatient trainer. He thought of a joke, chuckled at it, and then had the desire to share it. Dink, being the closest, became its receptacle whether he was willing or not.

"How long do you think it will be before Alex offers this new guy a place in this travelling circus of ours?"

Dink flicked his head at Fletcher quickly so he could move a bit of hair from his eyes. He stared at Fletcher, now, still munching quietly on tree bark. He eventually spat a piece out, and clicked his tongue. "Well, Fletcher..." He started.

"That is a very very stupid question. When he feels the need to, obviously. Or not. Maybe he'd rather swallow cheese on his own. If that makes any sense. I don't suppose it would, but it still works, or not. I don't care. Point is, if he comes, we have a big man to scare away the other big men, and if not, we always have this toenail I found in my pocket. I think my dear old Auntie left it here before I left her house a month ago." Dink pulled a disgusting and yellow nail clipping out of his jacket, and waved it an inch from Fletcher's face to show him.

Eating tree bark was one thing. But even Dink wouldn't let this thing near his lips. Some things were just too nasty for anyone who called themselves human to do. Eating Aunt Tracy's toe clippings was one such thing.

Before thinking, basically replying to Alex asking him to cover up the scrape, Ogio places the badage across it. He din't thimk the scrape was that big, but the 'Alex' boy must not like it. He then looks at the girl offering him the Moomoo Milk, didn't he just drink a bottle? "Thanks. Back in Johto, Moomoo Milk was common around our house. I love it and mom... mom used to..."

Tears begin entering the corners of his eyes and he recalls his Natu, who doesn't seem to like all the people around but isn't doing much else. Ogio then sends out the Swinub that his mom gave him. He picks up the Swinub, "Mammy help," and holds him close. He feels better, Mammy's touch always comforting when he thinks of his mom, and lets go of the Swinub. The Swinub crawls towards the girl with the Moomoo Milk, sniffing her leg when he gets there, and rubs against her leg.

Kiara rubbed the Swinub on its head when it rub against her leg. She then looked up at Ogio, who seemed to be crying before hugging his Swinub. He said his mom used to, as in past tense... Kiara thought. The only conclusion she could come up with with him crying and talking about his mother in past tense was that his mother was dead. It saddened Kiara to know that an innocent person was dead.

Not wanting to sadden him anymore, she decided to not give anymore Moomoo Milk, afraid he might start to cry again. "My name's Kiara, by the way. You came from Johto? So do I. I'm from Cianwood. What city are you from?" she asked, slightly frowning.

Fletcher balked slightly as Dink waved a toenail in front of his face (but, fortunately for his stomach, didn't eat it) and said more things that could roughly be construed as sentences. Fletcher turned to get up, not exactly liking being called stupid, but before he could move away from Dink entirely he saw Ogio cry, take out a Swinub and then use it as a living comfort blanket. He rolled his eyes.

"The big man is more likely to get kicked to death by any other big man worth his salt than to scare them away. Hopelessly clumsy, an emotional wreck...Should fit right in with us."

Fletcher then moved away from Dink, not really caring for the kid's response, and wondered over to Kiara and the Swinub. He bent down to rub the little guy, and would ask Ogio his name when he was finished telling his story. He always liked Swinub as a Pokémon, and wondered why he hadn't gotten one for himself of Alex's Dad. He released Flick, Dozer, Cher-Bear and Snub from his pocket, to allow them to enjoy the sunlight and socialise with Ogio's Pokémon.

Alex peeked through his fingers to see that the injury had been covered up.

"Thank you for covering that up. I'm sorry about making a fuss about it, I, for some stupid reason, can not stand the sight of blood." Alex noticed that Ogio was comforting himself with a Swinub, having grown upset upon the mention of his mother. Alex didn't like it when others were depressed, and pulled a PokéBall from his waist, letting out Gallahad.

"Gallahad, Ezaia, could you emit happy thoughts and feelings." Alex whispered to his Pokémon, hoping that their efforts would reach out to Ogio, and make him feel better. Alex then looked back to Ogio and said,

"Ogio, was it? If you were headed to Oreburgh you could come with us, if everyone else is ok with it, we were headed that way ourselves, and as I like to think, the more the merrier!" Alex had looked over to the others in terms of the inquiry.

Atem hadn't really paid much attention to the scene happening over yonder, though she did glance over at the guy that screwed himself up. Tch, nerd, she thought scornfully, glaring over at the boy, who later introduced himself as Ogio, and almost audibly scoffed as the rest of her group went over to help him. Honestly, he couldn't have hurt himself that bad for two bottles of that MooMoo-whatever stuff.

"Of course, of course, more people," the Goth sighed irritatedly as she looked at the others from the distance, her frown deepening. "And one who openly cries, too. Oh, the joy of having new 'friends.'" Atem crossed her arms again, her head slightly tilted as she looked over Ogio. He wasn't anything special to her. None of them were, for that matter, but just having another one have to come along made her angry. "Whatever." She looked at Alex, rolling her eyes as she stated her answer. "But I swear, if there is another person after this guy that joins us, I am just going to stay put in Oreburgh. This isn't a party, mind you."

(Eek, must post to make up for business. ._.)

Cassy was a bit in shock at the whole situation. Normally, she'd have been right up there with Alex and Fletcher at the beginning. She thought it was odd that Fletcher was the first. Either he gave very bad first impressions, or was just very very unpredictable. No, that creepy little Duncan kid was unpredictable. Fletcher was different, somehow. Aside from his hair, anyway.

Atem made some rude comment. Cassy frowned. She was getting to the point where she was determined to bring out the friendly side of Atem. "Is there any particular reason you have such bitter resentment of the human race?" She asked. "I mean, I could sort of understand that kind of talk if the group had three more of him," She whispered, gesturing towards Duncan. "But honestly, don't you think anything positive of anyone?"

Atem glanced over at Cassy, and her pale eyes narrowed. A positive view of someone for once? Certainly. She gave all her respect to Areotté and saved enough for herself. And even though her brother was gone from the world she lived in, her pride and respect still rested in him. He was the only one she could truly trust, after all. The only one she could confine in. And the fact he was dead didn't change anything.

"If I find someone that proves worthy of my respect, I'll be sure to let you know," the gothic girl answered, though no anger remained in her voice. It was flat and boring again in tone, most likely because the though of Areotté passed through her mind. Not to mention she knew what type of scary world she lived in. You learned a thing or two about people in the business world, and the worst in people seemed to show in her line of work when a bad deal was closed, or perhaps some dirty deeds were done. Her view of people wasn't very expectant, and Atem was certain that wasn't going to change anytime soon with the group of people she had to travel with.

Fletcher cringed as Alex did as he predicted and invited Ogio along. He was glad their de-facto leader hadn't invited him as a permanent place, but was certain he would soon. Not that Fletcher had anything against the kid, but ugh, every Bidoog, Shinx or Budew was likely to be invited along at this point. Was Alex trying to create an army or something? But Fletcher knew better than to voice the opinion that Ogio's access should be denied, because no one would agree with him and it would only burn a bridge.

Strike that. Atem, at least, was getting a little tired of Alex's constant recruiting as well. He smiled, happy to have someone share his opinion even if it would amount to nothing, but Cassy leaped down her throat immediately, apparently hating her negative demeanour, and Atem threw back a "If I find someone that proves worthy of my respect, I'll be sure to let you know,".

"Who said anything about respect?" Fletcher called, leaving Kiara and the Swinub to join this conversation instead. "Seriously, what's your fixation with it? Even if you think someone is a selfish, arrogant, egocentric prick, you can still say that they have great hair, or are amusing to watch, or maybe that they're grounded enough to actually make sense occasionally. You don't have to respect someone to notice one positive thing about them, and you certainly don't have to hold everyone you don't respect with utter disdain. You can just not respect people, you don't have to disrespect them. It's not a quality that would bring you much respect."

"Well, you could at least fake a smile." Cassy muttered under her breath. She looked up as Fletcher hopped in. He talked about respect. He also acknowledged many of his own qualities. And for some reason, must have been imagining someone with great hair. He might have been talking about himself, but Cassidy didn't want to believe that since his hair was utterly frightening. And smelly.

She blinked at him. "Well, I guess that makes sense." She fidgeted with her hair, staring at the bill of her cap. "You really like talking, huh? Seem like the type to take Speech and Debate classes. Either that, or you just had a very strange home-life."

"Alex, thanks I will join y'all. At least until I can find another bike." Ogio gets up, still a little unsteady on his legs. He walks to his bike and opens the tent bag. To the group around the area, he says, "There are three tents here. If we ever find ourselves sleeping on a route, we can sleep in these."

"Kiara, I am from Ecruteak City. The gym leader, Morty, and I are good friends. That's Mammy, by the way." He points to the Swinub, "My mom gave him to me before she... before she..."

"Anyway," he turns his attention to the few arguing, "I don't need your all's respect. In the sense that I don't respect those that don't respect anyone else. I wrecked into a tree, I didn't ask for it to happen."

He waits, takes a breath, and continues. "There are three of you all that ran here when I wrecked, but only two actally tries to help. Okay, those two have proven that I can trust them. You," pointing at the goth, "however havn't proven anything. You don't seem to like anybody and certainly don't deserve the little respect you may hold in this group. Okay, we are all people that have had fate bring us together. It looks like we will be together for awhile and may as well learn to put up with each other."

Ogio pulls a bottle of water out of his messanger bag, takes a drink, and looks around. He is quite winded after that long of a talk, having not talked that much in a single time.

Fletcher smirked both inwardly and outwardly at Atem's silence. Perhaps is words had hit home. Or perhaps she was too tired with him to bother speaking to him any more. He would consider either one a victory.

He now turned to Cassy; "Uh, no, no Speech or Debate classes, nothing like that. And of course I like talking. Talking with people is my favourite thing to do in the world. It's a lot more interesting if the other person has interesting things to say back, but if not, I can make do. Tell me, why does having a like of conversation necessitate, mean I have to have had a strange home life? People don't ordinarily talk to their families?"

And then he turned to Ogio. "That's pretty flawed. There could be any number of reasons why two of us would rush over to you-perhaps, if you'd died or fallen unconscious, we'd have taken everything you own, but when they saw how big and relatively unharmed you were, they decided against it. Maybe we wanted to see your injuries and revel in your pain. There's a ton of less-then-savoury reasons why we may have ran, and trusting us blindly because of it is a good way to get yourself hurt. Likewise, maybe some of us didn't run to you because we have slow reflexes or saw that the others were helping, and didn't want to get in the way, and these people could be totally trustworthy. You can't form an accurate image of someone from one thing they did. Everyone does bad things. I do them all the time. Doesn't mean we're bad people, because in relation to all the good things we've done, they're a tiny, tiny proportion of our actions-but to judge our entire character on them might not show us in the most favourable light.

"Or, if you don't like speeches: don't be so quick to judge us."

Atem was growing so tired of all these simple-minded know-it-alls ganging up on her, probably not even once sparing the thought that there was more to the Goth than the bitter exterior they saw with their blind eyes, and rolled her eyes. She glanced over at Fletcher as he gave Ogio a long speech revolving around the concept of not judging a book by its cover, which the boy clearly did to Atem not a few moments before, and felt her frown undo itself the slightest bit. If those words could sink into Ogio's mind deep enough to where he could at the most accept her, that was enough to keep Atem happy. Not enough to keep her quiet, no doubt, because her tongue was alarmingly sharp, but content, nonetheless. In fact, she would probably be warmly smiling like the kindest of souls ever to walk the face of the Earth if everyone on her team would do the same, though the Goth didn't give the thought another second as she let her arms fall back by her sides. As if the world would be that generous.

"I daresay I'm being hypocritical when I say this, but perhaps you should recite your speech to everyone individually," Atem muttered under her breath, pulling out her Pokétch again to occupy herself. She wound up back in the settings, and decided to change the color of the device to a dark army green instead, then slipped it back in her pack. She turned to Alex. "I assume we'll be going, then? We haven't all day to mindlessly stand and talk," she noted, pausing for a moment. "And there is a Gym Leader to challenge," she added, not letting much eagerness pass through her front.

Cassy sighed at Fletcher's slightly over-the-top 'I love talking to people, don't most people' thing. "I didn't say that. I just said you seem to enjoy jumping into a lot of conversations that don't exactly concern you, or rather, your opinion. That's all. Everybody likes a good conversation, but you're almost intrusive with it." She shrugged, winding some hair around her finger.

Fletcher went on to tell Ogio not to judge them. Cassy probably should've added something, but not only would that be pointless, she'd be contradicting everything she'd just told Fletcher. She felt a need to question Atem, to get into this girl's mind and see what made her so dark, but everyone was being really harsh. Ogio's whole idea of respect essentially said that only the people who helped him on a personal level would get any respect, and Fletcher, though he talked as if he knew otherwise, was just as disrespectful.

Cassy looked at Atem in the eyes, and wondered why she would want to be so rude to everyone. Possibly to establish some form of independence. Cassy had thought of that when her sister really started casting her shadow over her, but had decided she'd stand out more if she was bit more bubbly. Atem could be in a similar situation to her, and just be handling it differently.

"Well I'm certain we'd end up making use of them tonight, as there's no way we're getting to Oreburth before nightfall. That I already knew, but now it looks as though we won;t be challenging the gym until late afternoon or early evening tommorow." Alex replied with sigh. He saw that his other freinds were starting to bicker about things, well other than Duncan, but being in a disagreement with him seemed like it'd be a hard thing to do.

"Guys, Atem is right, we really should be making tracks, we've got a long walk ahead of us, and we don't want to do it on a grumpy attitude, right?" Alex questioned in a louder the average voice. Gallahad jumped a bit at this, in his short time with Alex, he never found that his trainer was the type to raise his voice, usually taking a more subtle or fentle approach to breaking up problems, but that may have been just Pokémon. alex strapped his sack over his shoulder, and turned to the group.

"Come on, we should really get going." Alex said with a smile, "Don't we want to see the natural beauty of the route before dark?"

"I agree, we should probably get going now." Kiara said in response to Alex's question. Though Kiara wanted to get going mostly because she didn't want to listen to Atem, Cassy, Ogio, and Fletcher arguing.

Kiara turned to Ogio. "Ogio, do you want some more Moo Moo milk? I still have a few bottles left, and I can always get more shipped by calling my parents."

Kiara turned to the group. "You guys go ahead; I need to make a phone call." She said as she got out her PokeTech. She dialed the number to her home phone number. After two rings, someone picked it up.

"Hello?" A female voice asked. This was Kiara's mother.

"Hi Mom, It's me." Kiara said.

"Oh Kiara! I'm so glad you are OK!" Her mother said joyfully.

"Of course I'm OK! Anyway, could you please send a dozen bottles of Moo Moo milk to the Oreburgh PokeMart?" She asked.

"But honey, you don't like milk." Her mother said.

"Well, Moo Moo milk can make a person feel better if they are hurt, so it'd be better to have some just in case." Kiara replied.

"OK sweetie. Be careful on your journey, OK?" Her mother asked, with worry in her voice.

"I'll be fine!" Kiara said. "Bye mom, I'll talk to you later," and she hung up the PokeTech.

Kiara then raced over back to the group.

(sorry, didn't mean to start this. gotta slip into character instead of worrying about home-life)

"Yes, we will probally need to use them." He puts the water bottle back in the back, accepts the MooMoo Milk from Kiara and sticks it alongside the water bottle. He picks up the tent bag, picks up Mammy, and walks towards Oreburgh.

His PokeGear begins ringing and he sidesteps to answer it.

"Hello?"

"Ogio, it's Morty. I've found something about that egg dream you saw. What city are
you heading towards?"

"Oreburgh City in Sinnoh. The Pokemart there can get it for me."

"Alright pick it up there. It should be there in a couple of days. Good-bye."

"Good-bye, Morty. And, thanks."

Ogio hangs up a hangs back waiting for the group to pass him so that he is in the back.
