Having a Video Game Character Commit Adultery

Even if it's wrong, it's certainly not wrong in the same way that it would be if you did that in real life. It's a game, and the characters don't even mind that much. You're not even intentionally torturing them, you were just playing around and only later even realized it could possibly be construed as wrong.

If it bothers you now, I'd say don't do it until you've thought about it some more. But your intentions weren't bad, right? You could consider doing what Noctowl said and talking to someone with the same beliefs as you. They'll be more likely to know how you're feeling, and you can more likely trust their opinion since you know they have similar values and beliefs.

It's all about intent. Sure, killing people is [usually considered] wrong, but it's less wrong if it's the only way to stop them from, say, destroying the world.

I wouldn't say that it being a video game automatically makes everything peachy - I mean, the kid in Toy Story is only torturing toys he doesn't even think are alive at first, but he's clearly pretty morally corrupt - but it's not real life, either, you don't have to worry about it as much.

I personally don't have a problem with the idea, since they're not real and you didn't mean to do anything bad, but again, if it bothers you, give it some more thought and try to make an informed decision.

Here's the thing. Everybody has a different idea of what the ten commandments actually mean and what God truly wants with you. You could ask a pastor about it, but if you asked two different ones you'd probably get two different answers. The fact is this isn't explicit in the Bible, and nobody on Earth is going to know exactly what God would think of the matter.

I would say that doing something in a simulation, knowing it's wrong to actually do it, cannot possibly be a sin. Then what about being an actor and playing an immoral character? What about games where you kill enemies? What about writing a book where characters do immoral things? But hey, what do I know about God? For all I know he disapproves of all of that and intends to send us to Hell for as much as thinking up scenarios involving sin.

I'm tempted to ask you if you truly want to believe in the kind of God who would look at this as a sin.

If you're that worried about breaking the Ten Commandments with a game, then why the hell are you playing Pokémon, what with all the "IT'S THE WORK OF THE DEVIL" crap?

Most christian religions that think of video games like that are usually what someone would call a cultist- Jehovah's witnesses, Mormons, etc. No offense to anyone of that particular religion. Others, don't exactly approve of it, but don't go crazy over it to the point of making a site against a certain game. Of course, they don't excuse games such as GTA, or Left 4 Dead. But, still, they don't go crazy about it.

I personally think if it's just driving you that crazy eeveelution, just don't do it. Plus, isn't separating a marriage pretty bad in the first place? Do whatever you like, it is just a simulation.

Case Study: Christianity
It's called religion. Morales are set up from inside of a religion. Marriage is also a religious bond besides a legal one. From a Christian standpoint:

I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.

Thus, a part of Christianity is the sacred connection of Marriage. People of a religion, including Christianity, follow the rules set to them by the religion, because it makes sense to them in their relative morals. Otherwise, they wouldn't be religious, would they?[/Christian Ranting]
