...Anyone still play any of the third gen games? ^^ If so, which ones, and what do you like about them?

As for me, I still absolutely love R/S/E, as well as Colosseum/XD. I think a good lot of it is definitely the nostalgic value; the third generation was actually how I was introduced to the Pokémon games, after all. I love having Secret Bases, too, and truth be told I do like the GBA graphics better than the DS's pseudo-3D (no real reason; it's just my opinion!). The third generation also has one of my favorite regions (besides Orre :P) EDIT: ...Oops haha Orre is third gen. I knew that when I was making the post, but I guess when I said "third generation" I meant R/S/E, aaaa... and Pokémon designs, haha.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to have my Mightyena kick this Trapinch's ass. |D

The third gen was my favorite :D. I love my Emerald version and am never starting it over. I can't even bring myself to transfer the Pokemon on it to newer games, haha.

I really wish they'd bring secret bases back. And not tacked onto some other gimmick either, like they've been the last two gens.

Apfft, I know right ;w; I might get a new Emerald game after I finish this one, actually; of course, part of my reason for that is because I caught my first legit Shiny on Emerald, and I kinda want it to stay on the game it came from. (When I'm able to, though, I'm totally cloning it and sending the clone to HG/SS and then B/W!)

OH GOD YES SECRET BASES. Those were like the best things ever, especially when you combine that with the idea of mixing records to get your friends' Bases in the game. I always thought it was neat, being able to battle their teams whenever, and having the Secret Bases scattered throughout the region in different environments instead of just, say, underground. :V

I loved those games. :D They were my favorites. Actually, I couldn't stop restarting them; I loved all of the starters and didn't have any friends who liked pokemon at the time to trade with.

Secret bases were the best! Where were yours? I always had mine on Route 120, behind the cuttable tree. I loved the fact that it had a berry patch right next to it, plus for some reason back then I thought wild pokemon and trainers could get in if you had a patch of grass or trainer in sight of it. xD Which meant for a good amount of time I had no secret base! I still like that spot the best, even though I know better.

I always liked that tree you had to surf to outside Fallarbor town. iirc it had holes that needed patching but once you fixed it up it was awesome.

Haha, my Secret Base? It'd vary, but it was usually on Route 114, near Lanette's house; it was on a tree on an island-thing near the bridge. One of the sides of the tree — I forget which, though — had a particularly spacious area that I liked to use |D

A fun little thing about Secret Bases, actually; when I was younger, one of my friends had (falsely) told me that if you beat the Elite Four 100 times, you could make your Secret Base into a Gym... guess why I beat the Elite Four over 60 times in my Ruby version (the first game I had)? *snort* On that note, it was for that reason that I always tried to design my Secret Base like a Gym.

...Hm, now if I could just get the right people together, it'd be fun to set up both our Bases and teams like Gyms and pretend we're all battling Gym Leaders.

I have a file the I haven't played for a while on my Emerald... I;m thinking that once I finish this one, I'm gonna try to Nuzlocke it.

uwaa I haven't played my sapphire for a long time, I'm not even sure where it is now. third gen is my favourite. <3 I should get it out and play it sometime.

Third gen was my favorite as well. It was the first game I actually completed, and the first that ever got me into Pokemon, other than the anime. I fondly remember trying to 'catch 'em all'. It brings back such fond memories :')

I loved that gen. My base was always outisde of Mauville, across the water and in the tree/bush (I dun remember what it was....) this base was set up for if records were mixed and battles were to take place, people would have to find the route through the base, and I never made a base with a spin/jump mat combo...YEAH!

Ahhh, secret bases!

I had mine in the middle of the desert, and the entrance was really hard to see because of the sandstorm. I then refused to tell my friend where my secret base is XD

My base was one of the bigger ones that had a little straight path starting from the entrance and leading to one large, rectangular room. I had a theme of sorts going on with that one and filled it up to the brim with blue and only blue items. I had a blue brick/box/shelf thing, the Wingull poster, and Wailmer poster, and a bunch of blue mats and plushies. I even cashed in my Battle Points at the Battle Frontier for a Lapras Plushie just for this reason.

I love Emerald....

I haven't played a third generation game in a while, save for Pokémon Channel, which I've been playing lately, despite it being a bad game.

Nonetheless, third gen definitely has some of my favorite spin-off games. Heck, Colosseum still remains my favorite Pokémon console game. A while back, I restarted the game and finally saw the ending it for the first time. It makes me sad, though, that there's so little to do once you finish the little bit of post-game there is, especially consider how much great Orre's setting is. A little bit after that, I started to replay Gale of Darkness, but got distracted by White.

I concor, RSE's Secret Bases definitely are/were the best. I'm partial to the tree bases, but beach bases are pretty spiffy, too. I really hope that Game Freak makes a RS remake, because there's so much more connective features they could do with Secret Bases now.

Yeah, this gen had my favorite starters.

My secret base was usually near a patch of dirt where berries grow. I would use it as a reminder to harvest and grow more berries, since I was always going in and out of my base anyway. I would use tiles to develop complex walkways and seemingly blocked off areas. It made me wish they were bigger so I could do even more and get even more furniture.

Um.

I play a ROM of Emerald.

And um... what's a secret base (haven't gotten far.)

Third gen was my fave as well. I've gotten nearly 700 hours on my Ruby game :D

And I too loved the secret bases. I have a bunch of R/S/E games that I used to restart quite a bit, and ended up with secret bases all over the place with ridiculously high-levelled Pokemon with no good moves (ilu Move Delete/Tutor) in, which made training incredibly easy.

It also had the closest thing to a plot we've seen in any Pokemon game except for B/W, loads of the designs were brilliant, and you could have Pokemon of loads of different types really early on in the game. And the region as a whole is my favourite of any generation; the whole technology-meets-nature thing worked really well, I thought, and places like Fortree are the most imaginative and memorable towns from any game.

The only thing I don't like really is all the sodding diving.

Haha, that's so true |D I could definitely see using the touch screen to move the decorations around, for one thing. I'd definitely love it if they kept the Secret Bases if they did make an R/S remake~

Um.

I play a ROM of Emerald.

You'll see them... I think around the third badge, yeah :V There's a guy on one of the routes (I think near Fallarbor Town) facing a tree; if you talk to him, he gives you the TM for Secret Power, which you can use on certain trees/wall indentations/grass patches to make Secret Bases. And they're just fun little extras; you use furniture to decorate it, and mixing records with a friend means their Base is transferred to your game XD

I'm actually doing a Nuzlocke in Emerald right now. The third gen games were my favorites! There was beautiful scenery and fun mechanics. Plus, the Pokemon designs are all pretty much amazing.

Maaaan this thread made me pick Emerald back up. Now I'm working on getting the full collection of Secret Base stuff. :> Might work on the Battle Frontier too.

3rd gen Frontier >>>>>>>>>> 4th gen Frontier, btw.

I haven't played my Sapphire for quite a long time actually. I think that the last time I've played it I defeated the Elite four for the second time or something.
As for the starters, I like Grovyle, but the Water-type line are just more ugly Ground-types to me (except Mudkip, because it's not part Ground) and the beginning of the series of Fire/Fighting starters is nothing to be admired. My brother says Fire-types shouldn't be part Fighting because it's the wrong kind of physical moves. While he says this particular combination is wrong, I don't like the Fighting type in general.
Somehow, I consider the legendaries interesting. I find associations with the RGB trio everywhere (but there are still there are more Lake Trio equivalents. Cheren, ianca and the player character are one), and sometimes when I hear something about a collision of water and lava or something, I say it's an A/M situation. I didn't use to like Hoenn because it was geologically unstable. Now I don't like Johto because it's stable and continental. But I even like the Regis a bit. Especially Regice, probably because of its type (and maybe its stats as well).
I still remember how easy it was to beat Drake. It probably isn't that easy in Ruby, because Groudon doesn't know Ice Beam. I also remember depleting Rayquaza's PP and finding out that Struggle works on the Ghost type and gets through Wonder Guard.

That's one way to beat shedinja.
(Not a very good way.)
I'm trying to do a nuzlocke run on my emerald, but... It didn't work. Meh. I loved secret bases, though. They was awesomeful.
