• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

League Championship 2015 - Kalos Open

... is it too late for me? If there's too many I'm cool with waiting till the next one though.

... Well, that's definitely quite a bunch of demand.

I'll entry all players up to Lilypad, but I'm afraid that'll be as many as can be entered at the moment. So, entries are now closed for real. But don't sweat it if you've missed it -- there will be not one, but two late entry brackets as the tournament runs its course, so additional players will still have a shot to throw in their lot, eventually.

Anyways, if that's alright with everyone, I believe we'll be starting Friday this week.

OPENING ROUND - WELCOME TO KALOS
(Central Kalos - Lumiose City, Centrico Plaza)

Only minutes after the plane touches down in the international airport at Lumiose City begins one of the worst logistics disasters in Asber's history. All the trainers were told to meet in Centrico Plaza in three hours -- more than enough time to get the lodgings straight, or so thought the organizers -- in order to begin the events. And then, every single participant ended up lost in the gargantuan city.

Most were blindsided by the sheer amount of streets and alleyways and pathes, and couldn't even puzzle out which one they were on and whether they were coming up or down the road. Some tried to take the easy way out by hailing a cab, only to find that unstylish foreigners were charged an arm and a leg for the fare in the Kalosian streets, and that walking away with all limbs intact could take as much as an entire Pokémon battle. Others asked for directions, and were met with some bizarre dialect or language that they couldn't make heads or tails out of. Others yet were fully allured by the incredibly diverse array of cafés, and could not resist diving into the local culture, even if time was an issue. Yet more were forced to deal with some strange malaise, such that when they tried to save their progress while out on the big streets, their games froze and they lost just about everything since the beginning of the plane trip in; that day, everyone had to be instructed to only save indoors. And then there were the few who were sidetracked by more frivolous activities, such as getting an overpriced haircut or window-shopping for expensive clothes that they weren't even allowed to buy.

The nightmare would eventually come to a relieving end, but not without consuming at least twice as many hours as the entire event was expected to last. Delayed or otherwise, though, the trainers were finally gathered around the impressive Prism Tower, and the competition was about to truly begin. The roads into the plaza were sealed with barriers -- frustrating any poor trainers who were hoping to challenge the Gym Leader that day -- and spectators, familiar with ASB or otherwise, started to gather behind them.

Asber can now plentifully provide its league with Pokémon native to Kalos, and the officials have seized the chance to show that arrangement off. As such, the first round of the tournament will be carried entirely with such Pokémon, provided on rental -- each player has been randomly assigned to a certain local species to use in this match, and so, newcomers and returning veterans alike will be dueling primarily with their own skills on the line, rather than the power of their already established squads. Of course, it's also quite likely that some players may enjoy the way their assigned Pokémon handles well enough to get one for themselves!

In order to compensate for the logistic snafu that ensued earlier, however, the officials have also stipulated that this first batch of battles will occour within a time limit: Each battler has only five rounds to knock their opponent out before they're forced to clear the ring for the next matchup. If both of the fighting Pokémon are still standing once the time limit is up, their conditions will be compared in order to determine a winner -- that is, the sum of their respective health and energy values will be compared, and the one with the most gas left (not literally, so don't get cocky about that Pumpkaboo's odds) wins.

Without further ado, here are the fixtures for this round, as well as the assigned rental Pokémon for each player:

Before their turn to battle, some of the trainers send out their rental Pokémon and get to know them a little. A few even decided to give nicknames. And then, one or two went ahead and picked out a cosmetic forme...

Suddenly, two officials start whispering to each other in front of the trainers and spectators, seeming quite agitated. One of them turns around to make the announcement. "... It's bad! A shiny Pokémon got mixed up with all the rentals! One of you may have to battle with a-" and before that sentence could be completed, a resounding uproar had already taken the crowd. The anticipation furthered as everyone impatiently expected to see who exactly would be the one to bring out that unusual, super-rare Pokémon. Who could it be?

For this, for the exciting battles, and for the ones who will procceed to the next round -- stay tuned.

We have an impromptu opening due to an early desistence. Going for whoever posts here first.

Aaaand we're closed again.

(Don't despair if you've missed this, there'll still be plenty of late bracket entries!)

Alright, we have another improptu slot due to a first-round DQ. Once more, first come, first serve.

Done.

For others hoping to join -- late bracket entries should begin within the next few days, as more and more matches in the first round draw to a close. The first late bracket will run concurrently with the second round.

Right, entries for the first late bracket are now open. This bracket will be taking on six additional trainers who weren't able to register for the tournament proper, and it might take on the odd eliminated trainer from the first round if that becomes absolutely necessary (at the very least, it's not gonna happen until the round one battles are all actually over). Battles in this bracket will run concurrently with the second round of the tournament proper, and the winners will participate in the third round and ownards.

Even if you end up not being able to swab a spot in this one, don't panic -- there will also be a second late bracket later on, albeit it'll be just slightly tighter to get into.

And so we're closed again. Hoo, the demand here never ceases to surprise me...

Anyone who's missed registrations again need not panic, as we'll have a second late bracket yet.
